I recently started an adult beginning ballet class a while ago and have trouble comprehending things in class sometimes (virtually no prior dance experience here), and this video really helped a lot! Thank you for breaking it down and taking it slow, was such a big help.

same here. Wonderful to see a man giving it a go. I never ever thought I would be in a ballet class, but I love it. It is like saying hello to my body after a lifetime of pen and paper.

This was literally the step I kept messing up in class today 😂 But now I have a fantastic video to practice from until my next class, thank you so much ☺️

That is exactly why I am here! The rest of the class seemed to pick it right up, and I couldn't figure it out to save my life!

PLEASE INTERVIEW MORE older people 40s, 50s, and 60s + who have re-started ballet!
The questions I’m interested are: what was it like in their body to begin again? How did they acclimate to the movements of ballet at an older age? Did they have trouble with anything in particular? How did they overcome it? And what has dancing done for them now, emotionally and physically?
(I’ve only seen you do this one time on one video:… as interesting as her life stories was, it’s hard to find time to listen to all of that. Hearing about their Ballet journey is more important!)
    Thank you, Julie!

Thank you! My teachers always just tell us to do a certain move and I don’t always know how to do it, but everyone else knows already so I’m too shy to say anything most of the time😭. These vids rlly help!

The initial ‘brush’ is en avant (forwards)
    whereas
the second ‘brush’ is en arrière (backwards) and using the other leg.
(If you rolled up the cuff of one leg of your leggings to expose one shin, then the change of feet and the direction of brush would be more obvious perhaps.)

The initial turn is AWAY from the brushing leg,
    whereas
the second turn is TOWARDS the brushing leg.
That’s why beginners can get confused... verbal explanations need to identify distinct differences (different leg, different turn direction, different brush direction) which are not immediately obvious visually).
