I was on the fence about the game from watching how to play it because it seemed pretty fiddly but watching you play through it really sold me on it. Looks really fun!
A couple notes just to maybe help anyone watching and playing in the future: - I don't think you took the 3 coins and grain that you always get for starting resources. Make sure to grab these at the start! - You set aside the cottage quest at the beginning because you did it on your first playthrough. But, this quest actually leads to two different totems (and you can only grab one per playthrough). So, for any completionists wanting to collect everything, make sure to do this quest twice! - Though it seems counterintuitive, for the best rewards, stay on the ship for the Last Hope raid.
Great stuff Colin, I've just received my KS pledge here in France and as usual you're teaching me the rules. I know there will be spoilers, but there's so much to do in this game a few doesn't bother too much. Cheers, Bern
Just out of curiosity, regarding your comparison to 7th Continent about looking for details in the art, do you think it might be possible that the reason you like it here is because of the coloration of the artwork. I've never played either but from what I've seen of them Sleeping Gods appears to have richer more vibrant colors while the colors in 7th Continent seems to be more subdued and almost flat by comparison.

It is hard to say, but I have already recorded part 2 of this one and have not even come CLOSE to any of the other stuff I found in my first play. So I would say this you could watch this and then have a completely different experience going to other places on the islands! Hope that helps!
So you took 2 round adventure tokens. 1 with 2 vegetables and 1 with a meat and 1 ship damage. If I'm not mistaken you have to pick 1 resource which is vegetables but your ship still receives 1 damage. Well this step by step video is just awesome BTW)
I noticed at 54:34 you discarded Kasumi's synergy token and proceeded to attack diagonally (which was the captain's synergy ability) - can you use multiple synergy tokens and does the captain's ability stay if you attack multiple times with the character that has the captains token?
One question I do have is when it comes to combat in parentheses there's a level. is there anything in the rule book that indicates a certain level of ability cards that need to be equipped for instance in order to risk the combat? I guess what I'm asking is how do you gauge whether or not you should entertain the idea of combat
Not really unfortunately. In the kickstarter updates Ryan has said level 16 and up is hard. But no guidance on what you need to succeed! Overall getting to a market and getting a weapon will help a lot!

I'm excited to watch this video. I played this at GameStorm and got my butt kicked (I think, I really can't tell). I remember Jason saying he really liked it, so I want to see what I'm missing.
Ok so guess I’ll ask for something to be clarified I was thinking that when it showed a characters damage as 4 + a symbol they you added extra damage for each one of that symbol you had so for example if it was 4 plus the 👁 symbol you would damage for 5. Am I mistaken?
I wish... no you have to discard an ability with that symbol to get a plus 1 to the attack. It's a lot to give up for one damage but remember those ability cards reset after each round of 18 events!
Well this is my second time playing through the campaign and so far I have had nothing be the same as my last play. I have only explored 2-3 pages and only partials of those pages as well. So I would say you could get 3-4 campaigns out of this easy before you start running out of content. PLUS there is the dungeon expansion and I haven't even seen all of those dungeons each which have its own map and more to explore. . . . So I would say replayability = high! :)

Excellent playthrough, the only thing missing in your videos for me is Klingon subtitles with corrections of rules mistakes. Like when you draw Search Tokens and don't take damage to the ship shown on one of them (15:30). I really don't like this feeling when you realize you have been playing the game incorrectly and you are about to finish first campaign. Mistakes are unavoidable, I understand, but adding some annotations trough subtitles when it happens and has been noticed later on would really increase value of those playthroughs for me.
Dude, you choose one and apply the result so no damage. You are thinking of regular search from the deck action where you can reveal 1 to 3 tokens and you take 1 positive and all negative effects
I didn't realize rules are different depending on how you draw tokens. My apologies. Let's just forget this example, main point still stands. I've seen you correcting errors on screen or in the subsequent episodes, but surely you can't catch them all during editing and before release. I'm just giving you feedback that I personally prefer watching playthroughs with Klingon. When I see Klingon I know that rules check was done not only by the author but entire audience contributed too. Just one opinion, feel free to ignore it.
Looks like a cool game! I’ll be following the playthroughs for sure. Could you give a little bit of backstory though, since we skipped the intro? Like who are these crew mates, what is the goal of the game, who are the sleeping gods? Whatever seems appropriate.
This is Mike, not Colin, but the basics are that your ship got mysteriously teleported to this other world. The gods there have been put to sleep. If you can find totems, they will awaken, and send you home. The crew is just a normal crew, I think, but Mac was from a different ship and has already been in the other world for a while.

I've played a bit of 7th continent and really enjoyed it but someone else was in charge of the game and choosing the cards etc which I found quite more complicated than this game. Saying that I really enjoyed 7th continent. I've got this game and although I haven't played it yet (just about to explore it a bit more and have watched lots of videos) this game seems more streamlined than 7th continent (that's not a positive or a negative, just feels simpler and easier to learn and play). I like the art of this one better but the 7th continent art kinda grows on you after a 7 hour game lol all in all I was actually thinking of getting 7th continent for myself eventually as it's about £50 anyway so not going to break the bank. Hopefully I've helped you a bit!

Thank you for this! A first rate play through video. This just isn't the game for me. I find the narrative too thin and uninteresting enough to want to play this through myself. I'm looking for a game like this with IMMERSIVE story.

what is the last page number in the map book. Mine is 19. Yet the book tells me to turn to 26..i dont have 26.
There is an expansion, Tides of Ruin, that expands the map. Without that expansion you can’t move into locations with those higher numbers

I really want to get this game but I’m kinda hesitant because of the complexity and all the nuances you have to be aware of while playing
