    Hi all! So since there isn't much information on this video except what she shows, I actually tried this! And I wanted to share my process just in case others want to do this project.
    Firstly the tank: if you're going to do this you MUST have plants in your tank that help release oxygen (preferably plants reaching into the 2nd story tank). Even if you got a good filter that pours in oxygen ITS NOT ENOUGH! (I learned this the hard way). I don't have an air bubble machine in my tank so I can't say for certain if that'll work but hey plants never fail. The size of the tank doesn't really matter, I decided to use a classic round fish bowl tank for mine(I'll get into how that went) and it looked cute for like 2 hours😅
    Secondly the tiles: it was kinda a pain finding the right tiles for this buuut the tiles you want are going to be NON GLAZED and NON TREATED with any chemicals. Like paints and such. So look for TUMBLED tiles. Shape is up to you. Take them home and give them a good soak in plain tap water (I left mine overnight). Doesn't hurt to give them a little mix just to get off any unwanted dust or oils.
    Third the silicone: the silicone is still holding up good, I still have the tile columns being held together by the silicone in my tank. Only thing I would mention that she doesn't really say in the video is PLEASE do this in a well VENTILATED area. It's shouldn't be toxic but holy hell I swear I was seeing double and it just STUNK! It was easy to find just look for fish safe silicone on Amazon.
    End result: like I said before, you need a LOT of sources of oxygen for this to work. My fish found the fish bowl tank just fine however got disoriented due to lack of oxygen and bellied up. (Rip 4 of my babies) so I took out the classic fish bowl all together and just kept the columns in my tank. The columns are holding up real nice, it's been about 2 weeks and there has been no change. I feel like once you master the oxygen part your all set.
    These are my findings, and hope you found this useful 💛

      that’s awesome. good job for attempting it! thx for sharing also
      how did you remove the air from the second tank?

    • @lovelysniper9010
      @lovelysniper9010 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Honestly I'm sure you can extract the air from the second tank through some kind of pump but if you're like me and cheap I just stuck a long thin tube into the tank, so one end outside the tank and the other is inside the pocket of air in the second tank, then just slowly sucked the air out. Ofc keeping in mind the water level as it rises.

    Most aquariums have aeraters to keep the water oxygenated. Make sure you dont put an airstone so it bubbles into the upper tank. If you do, it will lessen the vacuum holding the water in the upper tank and as it fills with the bubbled air, the water level in the upper tank will drop and overflow the lower tank. I would guess that would take only a few minutes!

  • @Brunbrown

    Seems this is more common in ponds, its interesting, you probably could use some plastic adapters as the ones for lights to support the second aquarium in the borders of the first one, without pillars. For pillars theres more simple ways but without them it's better. Seems that bigger Woods can be used to the top, besides plants. For lights seem tricky but I guess focal points in the top work OK. Maintainence require more work and the base aquarium glass should be strong enough for the extra water, surface water is decrease so air pump should help to mix more oxygen. Anyway, I think it can be worth a try. Great experiment.

    How stable is the second story tank? I want to do this with a 20 on my 75. My wife is telling me not to, because she doesn't want it to fall and break on the kids or dump 20 gallons on the floor.

    • @Ile.D
      @Ile.D ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought the same thing about it being unstable.
      My suggestion would be to make a cut in the up pieces. So that the glass of the second story can be put in that cut. And mybe with a little bit of glue (the one extra for aquariums, a safe and waterproof one)?😅

    So beautiful, but Is it hard to clean, and how much does it cost to make this project?

    • @AquariumInfo
      @AquariumInfo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great questions! Cleaning isn't too hard as I remove the water from the top aquarium and remove it all together for water changes. Then you have access to both tanks. A little more work but worth the end result I think! As for cost, it is really just the price of the lower tank plus price of the top tank you choose! The tiles I used to stack the columns we're about $20 with silicone. The rocks, substrate and plants were around $100 for this tank so not too expensive for a 3ft tank!

    Not trying to say it's the worst idea but problem being is you double your chances of a failure. If the top tank leaks and bottom tank can't take the volume of water without spilling over it could be a bad thing
