Second, he didnt told anyone to buy an arena, he told us to buy Kaioken Clothing, nothing more and third, it is not his fault that those bad arena fighters are getting success, its because people get baited by the amount and veriety of characters that are on the game. Hi Globku, if you have the chance, I HIGHLY recommend checking out Gundam Extreme Vs. Maxi Boost On. It's a very niche but well beloved arena fighter that has a strong competitive playerbase in Japan and Asia arcades, and is now coming to the PS4 on July 30!
It's an arena fighter done right because we have:
    - 183(!) playable mobile suits that all play different and yet still stay true to their anime appearances. None of that cookie cutter shit.
    - A very fast paced and intense combat system. Unlike the usual arena fighters, EXVS is a 2v2 team battle game, where teamwork is very crucial to victory.
    - Simple controls, yet it all relies on how you react on the match. One mistake can be very brutal.
    - It's not made by Spike Chunsoft. The dev team behind the Gundam VS games have been handling them for years and have been doing their best to make it as fiercely competitive as far as arena fighters go.
We currently have an Open Access beta going on every weekend until launch day. I hope you and other folks to try it out, and spread more word about it!

A+ Games is pretty used to failed games, I think, due to their history with the Little Witch Academia game which wasn't very loved and didn't sell particularly well. I can't imagine Kill la Kill IF did much worse for them and considering they were able to make the two dlc characters at all, it might actually have been better than the Little Witch game. I think that as long as they're partnering with Arc Sys they'll have the money and clout to keep going and hopefully that means that they become a real big name in the anime arena fighter games space.
I also think that its important to note that while its obviously an aspect of people buying and preordering games that turn out to be mediocre, I think that the loss of Bleach games is a very illuminating lesson to learn from. People fear that if they don't support a franchise, no matter how shit it is, the games will dry up. Bleach Soul Resureccion sold like piss, it wasn't even released after the anime ended, and it pretty much killed Bleach games. Its up to a combination of consumer pressure AND loud fan support to make sure that anime games go in the right direction going forward.
And thanks for using your platform to discuss this, because this is something that not a lot of other people would talk about, for fear of getting on the bad side of companies. Big ups.

You know what would work very well as an arena fighter? Medabots, the whole series premise is fighting with robots in a competitive format, so much so that a referee shows up out of nowhere for random fights between kids. Give me a Medabots arena fighter with a good story, and great fighting mechanics that revolve around damaging the enemy Medabot’s parts to win, and obviously you fight to get parts to customize your own Medabot. Heck, don’t just use the plot of the anime or whatever, allow the player to customize both their character and their Medabot, just start the game with a decent selection of parts.

The next arena fighter tho needs the developers to really take their time to make it a fun game that feels really good to play. Bandai should really listen to feedback more, so that it can be well received.

The only issue, depending on who you are, is that it's a 2v2 game first and foremost and while you can do 1v1's, it isn't anywhere near as balanced in that setting as the former game mode is.

It's intuitive, fast paced, and visually satisfying. Never played my hero academia, or jump all stars, but they both look good. Really want to try goku vs naruto. Yeah, I'm a sucker for the characters, but as they make sequels to the naruto arena fighter, the characters get more balanced, and still feel unique to play. So i hope that other games in the genre can learn to apply those qualities. As far as telling the story in story mode, um I hope they spend less time on that actually. The anime is the story, go watch that. I'm all for a good single player mode with good replay value, but I hope they dont try to fit the anime into these games too. Funny, I've been praising naruto Ninja storm, but they put a lot of work into their story mode as well. And I appreciated it, dont get me wrong. But I, a fan of the anime, didnt buy the fighting game to rewatch the anime in the form of cut scenes (though I'll admit, it's sometimes in better quality than the anime's portrayal). Gameplay should be top priority, and story should be a cherry on top. Just a few of my opinions on the topic that disagree with yours and my reasons why. Perhaps you can understand that from my point of view, the reasoning why I think anime arena fighting games are fun.

The best arena fighter I have played outside of the Storm series and Kill la Kill is Saint Seiya: Soldier's soul now it is very budget but it's got passion their is effort in the game but not really any balancing and I still see people play it mostly Hispanic but that's fine the thing came out in 2015 just look into it if you're interested at all I got a friend to get it when the thing was on sale and now she's kind of addicted to the franchise

I think Pokken was the closest it ever got to mainstream. Nintendo and Bandai just needs to give that one more go. The problem with that game was it came out on the Wii U first and also that it had a relatively small number of characters and low support time. If they expand the roster, make it a Switch exclusive and add tons of DLC it will be big.

I guess the problem is these games are hard to mkae mechanics wise, and need alot of balance patches or dlc etc
the thing is dbz is so well known that the franchise will attract a lot of fans just by its cover, but the gameplay will keep them playing, it's like the perfect mixture

    • @sammydray5919
      @sammydray5919 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

A lot of fans bought DBFZ because of the dbz brand and that by being 2.5D, it looks very much like the anime and thats definitely going to attract good amount of attention. FighterZ is fun to play and the visual presentation as well as characters made it sure that not only will it bring a LOT of new people, but a good number of them are going to stay. The downfall of MvCi is proof enough that without good presentation, PR and recognizable or interesting looking characters, great gameplay means nothing to most casual players.
The problem with arena fighters for me (aside from gameplay aspect) are that by going full 3-D, they lose the anime-esque look and become less flashy and more static. The gameplay also becomes stale quickly and despite having a ton of characters, none of them truly stand out unless the player has attachment to the anime character itself or if its completely broken. The individual characters in these games lack "personality" to differentiate themselves from most of the cast. And this is coming from a guy who only got interested into fighting games because of FighterZ and used to prefer games like Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Storm 3&4, Xenoverse etc. Now I cant go back to those games because they seem to hollow and..... lacking in my eyes.

I personally really enjoy the genre and am willing to look past some of the lack of variety if it means having a decent and fun experience with the game. I think some developers who sort of mimic the gameplay of other Arena Fighter games see the sales of games like Storm and Xenoverse and have an 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' mindset and try to replicate the game and ultimately fail to because of the lack of the IPs being popular. I used to want to make an arena Fighter much like Jump Force because I enjoyed the way the game played (not so much the bad story and the weird realistic direction for the graphical style, just doesn't work when you have Goku and co. shooting energy blasts at people like Luffy, Yugi Muto and Ryu Seiba), but my vision fell flat as I knew that it would just blend into the crowd as many people who play the genre are only there because it's a game based on an IP they love.

Awesome vid! I've had a weird relationship with arena fighters ever since i was kid. Love them when i was ten, but it was hard to for me to have fun with them after seeing how shallow they were in terms depth after getting more into fighting games. I've recently been wanting to give the genre a chance, but boy, is it rough. After playing One's Justice tho, I've become more hopeful now that one day we'll get an arena fighter that pushes it to the next level.
Im curious, though. You ever play/check out the Gundam VS series of games(Byking worked on it, same guys who worked on the My Hero One's Justice games!)? Would you consider that an arena fighter? To me they kinda are, but nonetheless, it's a fantastic series with a surprising amount of depth to it's combat system

i've only ever played 2 arena fighters: various games from the storm series and dragon xenoverse and i really genuinely like those games, so i had a pretty good opinion of those games. Specially the storm series since i've been playing it for a very long time and inevitably i got really good at it. Like way better than most people would even care to be, so from my perspective the high skill ceilings that these games had was something that really made me appreciate them, and i always thought it was similar for every other arena game. I had no idea that most arena fighters were just some cheap cash grab that capitalized on having a lot of known characters in the cover instead of having any gameplay depth or complexity.

they fail to understand how the anime's universe is too big to put into a small arena and throw the characters in it to fight for 3 minutes and with the only a single objective, reduce each other's HP. Dragon Ball Z kakarot, naruto rise of ninja and broken bond are examples to follow.

I just realized that in Jump Force Aizen has a sword, which is incorrect according to the manga, because after he absorbed the hogyoku his zanpakuto fused with him, which he comments on by saying, "I have become so strong I no longer need a Zanpakuto," because he was no longer a soul reaper, then when he appears again in the Thousand Year Blood War arc, he still lacks a sword and has instead come so far in devoloping his power, probably by communing with the spirit of Kyoka Suigetsu, that now he can manipulate time, and theorhetically anything he sees. Just an observation though

The story would either be playing through the show’s plot or a new story (preferably written by the show’s writers but that seems unrealistic) the boss fights would be in an arena but the core levels will be 3D action platformer with a focus on combat.
