  • At 11h this morning a Piper PA-28 Cherokee Warrior single engine propeller airplane with two people on board landed safely through cars on the freeway in Markham, Canada. The pair, a 700 hour experience pilot and his passenger, an air instructor had just taken off in the 1970's plane from Buttonville Airport located at the corner of Highway 404 and 16th Avenue on route to an airport in Grimsby, Ontario. As seen in a CCTV surveillance video posted online via the ETR 407 group, the plane makes a final approach over the eastbound lanes of Highway 407 before touching down in the live lanes. The small aircraft is seen decelerating on the freeway among a few other vehicles while rolling under a large metal frame sign post before coming to a complete stop right at the Woodbine Avenue interchange ramp. All emergency crews were dispatched but nobody was injured in this surreal incident including the crews and nobody on the ground. In an interview at the scene with OPP spokesperson, Sergeant Kerry Schmidt explains the circumstances surrounding the incident in great detail. As a pilot himself, Schmidt says that the pilot used his skills to conduct a "textbook" emergency landing that couldn't have unfolded better. Schmidt explains that the pilot despite a probable high stress level demonstrated high flying capacities and avoided numerous obstacles like surrounding buildings. We believe that shortly after takeoff from Toronto Buttonville Municipal Airport about one kilometer away from the landing site, fuel was transferred from one tank to another as per normal procedure before the engine then shut off for unknown reasons. One lane of the highway remained open during the duration of the intervention allowing stunned motorists to drive by what would surely be an unforgettable sight. No investigation from the TSB will be launched, no charges will be laid and the roadway was cleared within a few hours.

Yes, his name is Kerry Schmidt and he's the best! If you look carefully at the footage you can see him performing some mechanical duties on the plane too!

@@pascalmarch That is amazing! Sounds like a really cool guy. Usually the interview with the policeman you can tell they know literally nothing at all.

@@asdf12345929 Hehe well media cops juggle with what they are and aren't allowed to say within a short time after an incident and in front of reporters bombarding them with questions so can't really blame them. Some cops also take media duties even though they are not official spokesperson and some people just aren't comfortable in front of the camera, I know I'm not.

Just change 'loosing' to 'losing', and it's perfect.

"Switched fuel tank which is typical standard procedure...then they experienced engine stumbling". This is not a typical standard procedure while climbing out. May I ask where you got that from? I fly a Piper Cherokee. What is standard procedure is to try switching tanks after you have an issue in case one of the tanks was failing to feed the engine with fuel.

You should see Vancouver BC. Anything from unmarked dodge minivan, Electric Ford focus hatchbacks, Mercedes Transit vans to their marked cars, Ford Escapes, some truck but not sure the model & 2016-2018 + Dodge chargers (which are the main cars).
Tons more but I don't pay too much attention
