This is a prime example of why you’re a real one. The EOS M system is dead to so many & you’re bringing light back to it with stills that compete/surpass new cameras now.
I shoot M43 as well, but totally get why for some uses a bigger sensor is just better. To me digital full frame is like medium format in film, you get more quality, if you can carry and pay the price for it, while 35mm film, or digital crop sensors are the option that is good enough for most people and uses, while saving space and money.
I've gone from FF to APS-C and I think, for me that's maybe the sweet spot. But, I'm open to M43. In fact, used to have an Oly DSLR, 'just' with kit zoom, and the IQ was excellent. I convinced myself that I needed the FF sensor for a more 'film like experience'. Doh. Who wants to have a house-brick strapped to your hand...
Yep, I'm still using my M system. I keep thinking if only they went all out on this system. M6 with built in EVF. Dump the micro flash. A well built apsc Pen F. Now I'm just talkin dirty to myself.
Bought an M6 mark ii around 9 months back as I was looking for a small setup and was interested in it with the 22mm. Tried so hard to love it but just really didn't connect with the user experience of shooting with it. Nothing wrong with the kit, fantastic output, great autofocus etc. however using it was really not fun for me. I therefore went back to my X-Pro 1. What you have nailed here though is that this system (if you can connect with the user experience and cover yourself with the lens options) is a great steal of pro performance at a fraction of the price. Great vid.
@DeeRosa I love it, as a photographers piece of kit, for what I do it just works and that's all anyone ever needs, kit that you enjoy that gets whatever you need it to do....done. Really enjoying your videos mate, all the best for Christmas and I look forward to seeing what you do in 2025.
How did I know this would be about the M6mkII. I’ve switched to Sony for full frame but still use my EF-M cameras a lot. Sadly, I’ll probably just get a Sony 6700 when the M6mkII dies. It already resets the clock every time I change the battery. Believe it or not, Canon used to be the industry leader.
Managed to get an m50 (broken lcd) but otherwise fully functional for £90, picked up the 22mm f2 and I treat like my fuji x100 equivalent on a budget, there are even film soms you can load onto the camera if you want
The Panasonic kit lens of 12-32mm is pretty much the best inexpensive, slow little zoom one could hope for. The M6 mkII with a EV attached is surely a camera with the coolness factor. The camera you enjoy is always the best in this world. Have fun in life and keep shooting memories. If Canon was thinking, they would wrap the look of the Canonet around one of their sensors, add IBIS, and price it at $1,200 to cash-in on the compact -- street photography look thing going on. Merry Christmas from California, Loren
@@DeeRosa Thanks, I meant more along the lines of what reason (if there was any) behind why you would make the photos more contrasty and the videos more flat? To be clear, I think both look good, and nothing wrong with having them look different. Just wondered if it was a purposeful conscious descion with the different looks, or just a case of processing each to what looked good, and they just turned out that way.

I mentioned that in the video. iPhones’ ProRes lacks dynamic range even when properly exposed and information was lost because I metered for highlights.
I actually looked at getting into the M system in the summer, but went with M43 instead. The M sensors are just so noisy, compared to other APS-C sensors, I might as well go down a size and get a much better portfolio of lenses..
Great photos Dee! The EOS M system was a good one, but like you said, Canon didn’t really want it to succeed. I know I’m not alone in this, but I’ve suggested that Fuji really needs a 23mm f2 pancake like Canon’s. Doubt they’ll do it, because of the X100 series.
Try out the Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM with adapter. I use it on my M50 and it’s a great combination. Any shortcomings in the lens are easily corrected in Lightroom. I picked up an excellent example of the lens secondhand for about £100.
@ A pleasure. Great video on the virtues of this often overlooked system. I’ve had my M50 from new and it’s still my preferred camera for walk around. The beauty is in the small size and lightweight but which still produces great images.I can get the camera body and four lenses covering 10-200 all in a small over the shoulder bag. You may also want to have a look at the Eos M 100-200 mm . It’s a cracker of a lens and really useful for isolating spots in a landscape. Your photos are great and are really my style!👍
