  • This is round 6 of 2008 Toyota Motocross (450cc) Championship presented by FMF and round 2 of the 2008 Monster Energy Triple Crown from Red Bud Track n' Trail in Buchanan, MI.
Returning contenders like 2-time 125cc champ James Stewart, Andrew Short, Tim Ferry, Michael Byrne, Mike Alessi, Davi Millsaps, 2005 125cc champ Ivan Tedesco, 2007 MX Lites/250cc runner up Ben Townley, 450cc rookie Josh HIll, Gavin Gracyk, Suzuki New Zealand transplant Cody Cooper and others battle it out for 2008 Toyota Motocross (450cc) Championship presented by FMF. This outdoor season is completely dominated by James Stewart. This race is well known for Mike Alessi's stomach-turning crash in moto 2, which ultimately ends his 2008 season and any hopes of wrecking a perfect season for James Stewart.
    Enjoy.

Yeah, but that pretty much settled the season because Alessi was showing he wanted a moto win and was willing to run Stewart's pace. It's too bad nobody else challenged Stewart (outside of Cody Cooper in the 2nd moto at Unadilla).

trevor pitt Sadly that was the case in 2008. Unfortunately, this was the beginning of James' wrong turns he was taking in his career.

Stewart or Carmichael should have Raced Factory Ktm, that would've been beautiful ❤

Probably, but RC was already on his way out, and word is that Stewart and deCoster don't get along really well.

Nope, that is me from 1975 there at Red Bud. I have no idea how I got there in 2008, or how you got my shirt. :)
Actually, my first time there was in 1985, and was too old by then for your shirt to fit me. Bummer, there is no vid of the 1985 event. Broc Glover in the 500cc class did something amazing. He was leading, crashed on a up hill double with a left hand turn after it, cartwheeled through the turn, the barbed wired fence and between motor homes out of my view. This is off the track about where Laracco's Leap is today, crossing it into the field, (which they don't call the big triple that in this vid). I see a couple riders go by, then I see the fans holding down the barbed wire fence that Broc crashed through, to about a foot off the ground, Brock emerging from the motor homes on his bike, to ride over the wire, back on the track, and win the race.

One of the worst crashes ever in MX history and it took the fun out of the 450cc class that summer IMO. I don't think i'd ever seen a crash that bad since maybe Tallon Vohland got hit by two or three guys on lap 1 in the first 125cc moto at Unadilla 1999.

MathewV21688 Or either of Doug Henry's at Budds Creek.

Maybe, but Henry was never hit by anybody.

MathewV21688 That's true. When it comes to that, Alessi's was easily the worst. Only Canard's crash in LA and Evgeny Bobryshev's crash at Tretino were close in my opinion.

Saw Canard's crash and that was bad (L.A. 2012), but never saw Bobryshev's crash.
