I am really happy to see you creating content again, but I am really saddened to see unnecessary AI images in your video. This AI slop adds nothing and detracts a lot from the quality of your content. Please keep your nature content real.
Thank you!! I've never seen one, but we have darling downies from time to time, and Northern flickers quite often, and I can always hope for that pileated sight someday. 🙏🏼
You describe them so wonderfully. They *are* magical birds. They *do* seem as if they are birds from another time. Thank you for this video about my favorite bird. When critters destroy your house, they are just recycling it. It's your job not to let the wood in your house rot enough that the critters get the green light.
Last week i was watching tv and all of a sudden, i hear a loud WHAM WHAM WHAM, pause, WHAM WHAM WHAM! A pileated woodpecker stopped by my bird feeder and was eating a suet bar, she was big and beautiful! I hope she comes back.
Wonderful video Lesley!! Thank you so much for choosing some of my footage to use in the making of this video! These are definitely one of my favorite birds and I feel so fortunate to live in an area where they are thriving!
A nice surprise for me! Leslie is back with another video…couldn’t be happier to watch it. Others have made similar comments. This community still needs this “Leslie”medicine or video tonic! Keeps us going and informed.
It's always nice to hear your voice again. I was surprised the mourning dove wasn't scared away. Whenever I encounter them outside near the feeders, they flee quicker than the other birds. Thanks for the all the information on the Pileated. I don't see them often. I often see the Downy Woodpecker in the tree by my window.
Thank you for this wonderfully comprehensive video on these big beautiful Pileated woodpeckers❣️ Such a treat to see these big beauties❣️ ❤️🤍🖤❤️🤍🖤❤️🤍🖤❤️🤍🖤
Yesterday morning I watched a pileated woodpecker working on a downed tree I use as a border. I call them natures wood chip makers. Someone told me no such thing as wood chips in the forest, I said you never seen under a tree a pileated woodpecker worked on. I just love these large birds and I hear their drumming all the time. At least once a year they visit suet.
Welcome back. Seen these guys while elk hunting in the mountains of Eastern Oregon. They are pretty impressive. BIG birds. We don't have them in the west side of Oregon. Enjoyed your video as always. Thank you. 🎉 2:45
My grandfather called these Good Gods, too. He lived in southwest Arkansas as a boy, and apparently "Good Gods" were plentiful there. I thought that was just what HE called them, but I'm glad to see it was commonly used. He probably never heard of a Piliated Woodpecker 😂
I frequently hear and see these birds when I am backcountry camping. In the wintertime, they are often the only sound in the forest. Their call always makes me smile because it reminds me of the Woody Woodpecker cartoon I watched as a kid.
I had the great good fortune of living with the pileated on our property in LA. They never left and selected new trees every year. The owls were happy. The property was covered with old growth forest that had never been cut. I've been very close - 5 feet - often. I felt blessed by their presence. Thanks for the video. Blessings.
Thank you for the new video Lesley. As someone who has about 15 verities at my feeder, I use your past videos to help keep them happy year round. I am so glad to see a new video, thank you for keeping my bird friends happy and healthy.
I always love watching these guys while in the woods. I once watched one hanging about upside down to reach a colony of fuzzy aphids to feed on. Only thing I've seen eat the fuzzy aphids so far.
@LesleytheBirdNerd I was in awe. So much so I forgot I had a tough camera just for stuff like this 🤦🤷😅. I remembered just as he was done and left just a few seconds later! It's rare I don't see one while in the woods😊
Thanks for another informative video Lesley! I can only imagine how exciting it would be to see an Imperial or Ivory-billed woodpecker. I am grateful for the visits from my woodpecker friends.
Lesley, Thanks for sharing. And thank you again for answering my question about the Syrian Woodpecker. I hope he's safe as I haven't heard him in a couple of weeks. But I'm entertained by my Northern Flickers, Red Bellied, and Downy woodpeckers. Again, thanks for igniting a love of birds in so many of us! 💕
A woodpecker is a special wonder of nature. Thank you for bringing this 'gentle giant' to our attention. By the way, this is an especially well put together video with the various illustrative and comparative insertions!
I once had a Pileated Woodpecker standing on the peak of my roof jackhammering away on the slate shingles the sound was incredible even from inside the house ! Amazing and beautiful bird. Thanks Lesley you're the best !
This video did not disappoint 😮 My mind was blown that there are two other woodys larger than the Pileated. I'm a firm believer that the Ivory Billed may still be out there. Loved the footage from The Bird Perch. What a neat platform setup they've got! Excellent job!!! ❤🐦
I'm so glad you found the video good :) Thank you! The Bird perch certainly captures lovely videos of the Pileated Woodpecker. I'm grateful for her help with this video. Have a great day/night
I'm originally from Maine, retired now and living in Florida, lots of these where I live, I once used the bait bags from lobster traps to put suet in for bird feeding, awesome show ❤
Leslie, I always appreciate your videos, and was especially thrilled tonight to see this one about one of my favorite birds. I live in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada (California) and we do have pileateds here. No matter what I am doing, on the rare occasions when I hear one, I snap to attention anything I was doing or saying is immediately interupted. Over the summer, there was one relentlessly hunting on a dead tree near my house, which was so gratifying. Thank you for your wonderful work with these videos, they are a highlight for me!
Good catch Leslie! I have never seen the pileated ..the downy and the flicker are common here in north central IL...very beneficial..great info..the swaying was interesting..the grackles are funny when they are on the ground but will look to the sky and also when they swell up for a second which is so funny to me!! during that they screech. Thank you Leslie for all the information you provide us..Happy Thankgiving to you and your family..we are SO thankful that you have your birding channel which is so interesting...health and blessings🦃🕊🏞🏕🌎🌍
I've had a Pileated Woodpecker at my suet tubes for years no (I'm in eastern PA). I remember being shocked when I first saw one about eight years ago. I couldn't believe how huge it was! I always make sure to have lots of suet feeders up so I can enjoy its visits and calls. Always enjoy your videos.
I've seen and heard them at a few places, but they were always either far or flying around and not staying at one spot for more than a few seconds. I too have noticed how calm they are with other birds at feeding stations. The red-bellied woodpecker on the other hand gets up-tight when other birds come close to its personal space. Awesome video!
❤ 🪶Thank you for collaborative making this great video with such intresting information. It's especially intriguing that the Starling annoyed it but the Dove and such did not!!~* Thankfully they are in my area❤ Hopfully there is still Ivory Bills still out out there somewhere!!~*
Loved the video and thoughts of you posting more videos when you feel like it. I saw a Pileated woodpecker a few times and always get excited when it happened.
Thank you, Lesley! Great to see another one of your wonderful videos! Love the Pileated Woodpecker, and grateful that I get to see them. This summer it was a treat to see two Juveniles following dad around!😊❤️🤍🖤
I love these birds. About a year ago I looked out the window and had 3 juvenile pileated woodpeckers working on a tree in my yard. I actually was able to get a picture of them. I live at the edge of a state park and we are blessed to have them yearly!
🍃 I had one Pileated Woodpecker at my suet feeder last winter amongst the Downey and Red Belly. All of them are impressive birds. Thanks for the wonderful video Lesley, well done! ❤🍃

My mom sketched the most beautiful images of these birds through the last years of her 94+ year life.🙏
Thank you!! I've never seen one, but we have darling downies from time to time, and Northern flickers quite often, and I can always hope for that pileated sight someday. 🙏🏼
@@dariaschooler So wonderful!!! What a legacy to leave behind one. 💙
What a pleasant surprise. Pileated Woodpeckers are quite a sight when you come across one, very large.
Even just hearing their call is exhilarating!
😍
Frequent visitors where I used to live. Sad I had to move.
Welcome back, Lesley!
It’s an absolute pleasure. The knowledge and her wonderful narration is something I truly enjoy.
Thank you Leslie !!!
And, just like an endangered bird, you are back !
Thank you for this special woodpecker report !
❤❤❤
This comment legitimately made me smile. Clever comment. 😊🐦
I think the woodpecker's house may not be the biggest, but it is definitely the strongest
I am lucky enough to have all three woodpeckers visit my yard on a regular basis. great video!
@Mtagrad Then, you are one lucky duck, er... Woodpecker!
You describe them so wonderfully. They *are* magical birds. They *do* seem as if they are birds from another time. Thank you for this video about my favorite bird. When critters destroy your house, they are just recycling it. It's your job not to let the wood in your house rot enough that the critters get the green light.
Completely agree-these birds are truly mesmerizing, like they've flown straight out of a fairy tale. ✨
Their house is always full of food, the young ones are very happy when their parents make a very sturdy house
Thank you. This was excellent and so enjoyable to watch.
Lesley- so happy that you continue to create these videos! Very important to me. Thanks!
Thank you very much. I appreciate your support. By the way, plenty more videos to come, it just won't be weekly uploads that's all 😊
Seeing a pileated woodpecker in action is always a treat.
its like a feathered chainsaw, with a beak. watched one destroy a dead pine tree.
This bird is on my list of favourite birds😊
Thank you for making another video
So happy to see new videos from you Lesley! They always bring me such joy!
Such beautiful birbs!🥰🐦🦉🦅❤
Beautiful!
Smiled through the whole video! Thanks again, Leslie!

I've only seen them twice so far but they're stunning birds--and that footage of it being scared of the mourning dove is priceless!
Love these guys. They are attracted to the dead tree across the street. (Southern NH). We often hear them calling.
Nice work, Lesley!
Lesley-Wonderful! Thank you!
I'm delighted to see you back, Leslie. Excellent footage of an elusive bird.
Enjoy seeing them in this neck of the woods 👍 Enjoyed

@novampires223
Awesome. Where do you live? I've lived 85 years in the Hillsboo farm country and never seen one here.
Woody! 😁

The Merlin app claims to hear one in my back yard, but I've never seen one. I'll keep looking. Thanks for giving me a look at them.
Merlin hears them near my home here in East Tennessee and I do see them but I can’t get them to come to my feeders.
