- Enjoy a nearly un-cut high quality audio 16 minute video of the AWESOME Dash 8 Q200 Turboprop sound. I recorded the whole taxi for those who want to watch it. When the props come back to idle, it makes one of the best and most pleasing noises a human ear has ever heard!
I am not sure if the noise has a name, but it definitely sounds awesome!
This is now my my near-favorite aircraft, coming in at number 3! Just after the 744 and the 752!

Thank you for watching, and remember: “If it ain’t roaring, I ain’t soaring”
Just that sound when the engine goes quiet then the sound kicks back in... one of the best sounds ever!
Honestly it's like the best sound ever
Yes
Finally someone who understands. One of the best aircraft noise
Yeah same. The Q400 just doesn’t sound as good
Right? I've been trying to articulate this sound for like years and I finally found a recording that captures it perfectly. Which is probably the only place I'm going to hear it again since they've pretty much retired all these birds.
Luckily you still have some options to fly them. I love the sound on cruise and the short field take offs in less than 500 m.
The prop sounds from the older dash 8s are why I love them so much..makes it exciting taxi to the runway..you want to say to the pilot "taxi slower to the runway. PLEASE!!"😊
(it makes one of the best and most pleasing noises a human ear has ever heard!) !!!!!!!! that my friend is so true....the most iconic turboprop hum to me.... where i am from in the Caribbean regional airline Liat had a fleet of the older Dash 8's they got rid of fot ATR's
Holy crap! That's the best sound recerded so far!
cloudycherno thanks :D indeed it is. Big thanks to ATC for letting us taxi for so long!
I can listen to this all day! I love the prop sound! My most favorite!
Yuppp wayyy better than the ATR imo
2:30 !!!
Holy COW
..and 3:20!!!😮❤ _and_ 3:57!!!😃 4:42 🤩 7:33 10:15 11:37 12:06 12:45
Better than woman scream ahahhahahaha
Thats the Sound when the prop goes from throttle back to idle
Beta prop sound is better than ANY music.
I get the chills whenever I'm sitting on Dash 8 Q200 row 9 while hearing the engine spool up for takeoff
Bravo 🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼This should win a Grammy!
Absolutely stunning vid! The best beta range video you will ever find on TH-cam!
P.s the sound is called "DISC", because it's when the pilots reduce the power levers from "Flight idle" to "DISC"
Nick Aviation HD haha thanks! Really appreciate he comment :D
Nick Aviation HD Oh really
In the “disc’ing” range of the Power Levers, the engine computers (EEC’s) are set to maintain 785 RPM at all times. So when the pilot moves the Power Levers to adjust the taxi speed the propeller speed does not change just the propeller blade angle. It oddly does sound melodic. Nice video.
PW123’s gives out the best beta in my opinion
It’s so sad that I don’t get to see these beautiful birds anymore. These were the planes that started my fascination with aviation
We have plenty here in Canada still! Although Air Canada Jazz operated the Q300 and Q400 but retired the Q100, yet there are airlines there still operating that variant.
Luckily Alaska is still flying the Q400 to and from Seattle. Still sad that both American and United retired the Q200 back in 2017 and 2018 respectively. I’m not able to go to Canada anytime soon
Missing my job flying these beauties ☹️
This growling sound makes me so sleepy. Pillow and blanket please from the flight crew
I miss these planes coming into ISP. Id see them all the time.!
Damn it I miss my Dash-8 :(
I wish car brakes could make a sound like this.
That taxiing time though!
Very Very Awesome!!!!! Thankyou!!!!
13:15 The Take-off
Very nice!
Have these been phased out of commercial service? Prop planes seem to have disappeared compared to 20 years ago.
Unfortunately both United Express and American Eagle retires their Dash 8 airplanes some time in 2017-2018. However, Dash 8 Q400 still dies with Alaska!
In the US. Turboprops like this Dash 8 are not very popular unfortunately, but in Europe however they are very common
FlyBe was a mainly domestic airline in the UK and operated a large fleet of Q400s. Unfortunately they went bust at the end of last year.
@@deltafox757 And there's many here in Canada. I heard Europe and Australia still use a ton of Dash-8's as well.
In the US, mostly, except with Alaska Air. But in Canada u here, we have plenty, including classic Dash 8's. They're very solid aircraft. Around the world, they're quite popular still.
What camera did you use? IPhone?
Nick Aviation HD Sony AX53
3:55 !!!!
Landing lights on strobes on here we go. Tease just crossing a run way
02:31 ❤❤❤
Alisson 501 D-13 ❤.
