    Built this and the wheel base was too short for my 21" front wheel. It would just flip up and leave the wheel sitting on the ground with the loader still strapped to the wheel. I added 12 inches to the length and it works like a charm. If you didn't cut the length down at all it would probably work fine. Good economical build.

    The builder may not be checking back for comments.
    This is maybe the most sensible and economical solution to the loading problem I've seen! It would be extremely important to make sure the center and tracking ramps are rock stable...at both ends.
    Nice design and good video.

      Thanks for your comment Dan. I Traded my long bed pickup for one that's too short to carry a bike, but I'm using the lift on my trailer. I have the rails bolted down to the trailer so they don't move. Works really well.

    I really enjoyed your video and I intend on building a similar rig. I’m wondering how you secure your 3 inch channel on the back of your truck when loading in the back of your pickup? Could you load a video of you loading onto your truck or send me a picture of the way it attaches please.

      Thanks for the comment Jer W. I mainly built it with the idea of safely loading and unloading heavy bikes without busting the budget.

    Tks for making this video, nice build. I saw some steel struts in Lowe's. Perfect for the rails. the rest is straight forward enough.

    The wench being mounted on the cart loader you must have a idler pully mounted on the trailer & also on the truck, also how do you unload your wench is resealable. Raising the front of your guide tracks on your truck & trailer would cause the pully to want to roll back out when unloading, that would put tension on your wench cable to alow your reverse mode to control the unloading

    Do you need the winch? With the front wheel on the trolley you could ride the bike onto the trailer

    • @KTMPappy
      @KTMPappy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good thought, I suppose you could motor it up, but I think I would prefer slow and easy with the winch.

    Looks good, but do you have a brake on the trolly to stop bike pushing it forwards as you ride bike into chock?

    • @KTMPappy
      @KTMPappy  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Really good question. I have threaded holes at the bottom of each ramp. I just thread in bolts and roll the trolly wheels up to it to hold in place. when the bike is on the trolly I just remove the bolts and winch it up.

    Hey KTM great build what weight bike are you able to support with the 3" channel? You said heavy are you by any chance talking Goldwing or Harley weight category? Getting any flexing of the three " channel?

    Im building one like yours and need a way for it to stay put as I drive my motorcycle up on it.

    • @KTMPappy
      @KTMPappy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question Thomas. For holding the trolly in place while driving your bike on it. I drilled and threaded a hole at the bottom of the channel for the trolly and put a bolt (about 3" long) in it. When I rolled the trolly up against it, the bolt would keep it from rolling forward. When the bike is secured I just remove the bolt.

    Pappy how are your aluminum threads holding up ?

    • @KTMPappy
      @KTMPappy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've had no problem with the threads, but make sure you use stainless bolts. Other bolts could cause electrolysis and cause the threads to deteriorate.

    Sure would be good to see it in action. Pulling a Gold Wing or Road King.
    Kinda hard to commit a $30 000 bike when yo haven't seen it work.
    Everything works great on paper or in mock up.

    • @KTMPappy
      @KTMPappy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're absolutely right. I've designed a different bed rail system that will automatically start the unload process using standard garage door springs. It will pull the bike back to the ramp as the winch is reversed then gravity will take over to complete the unload. I'll no longer have pull the bike back by hand. I'll make a video of the build and demonstrate it with my K1600 GTL. The ramps and loader will remain the same. Thanks for the comment, and stay tuned.

      @@KTMPappy Love the design. Spent much of the day trying to figure out something similar, decided to look on YT and came across some interesting videos. Yours is perhaps the best of the lot, especially for being a cheap and easy to build system.
      Any progress on the upgrade? You have a Kiwi Tinkerer wanting to see it in action!

    Sorry I didn't say I like your product you did a very good job in design & also your video slowly explaining your product please reply to my comments many thanks Will

    • @KTMPappy
      @KTMPappy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the very late reply. With the winch mounted on the cart it doesn't require an idler pully because the cable doesn't move. It simply winds up on the winch and moves the cart. That's the advantage of mounting it on the cart versus a stationary mount on the the rails.

  • @fordfan3179
    @fordfan3179 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    So? How'd it work?

    • @KTMPappy
      @KTMPappy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Loads up real slick. Only Problem is I have to either stop on an up slope or pull the bike back by hand to start the unload. Thinking about revising the bed rails and use garage door springs to start the unload. Once the back tire starts down the ramp, gravity takes over.
