I currently have a NHS wheelchair, it's okay but it's not ideal for my needs. I'd love a custom wheelchair with smart drive to help me be more independent as I have ME and HSD so my strength and shoulders aren't great, especially as when I'm well enough I aim to go back to Uni and I've come to accept that I'd need to use a wheelchair more full time but I'm not sure if I can get something like your chair on the NHS, or through DSA or if I'd have to self-fund or if there's any grants out there to help people pay for their wheelchair. I also love the idea of have detachable arm rests and push down handles.
Naomi Gilchrist you can get a wheelchair like mine in the NHS if you meet their criteria! & I got a grant for half of the cost of the smart drive from a charity called Snowdon Trust, which aims to help get more disabled people into uni :)
Thats a really nice wheelchair, I'm a user myself. Has all the featires I'd look for when buying one. I'd always have push handles on the back incase I get in difficulty and need help.
Oliver Carnazzo I think it is impossible to get it on the NHS unfortunately. I paid part of it out of pocket, but the majority of it was funded by a charity that aims to get more people with disabilities into university :)

So this isn’t about the chair but when you black out do you get dizzy and your vision dims then your out or is it different. I’ve blacked out multiple times now and I’m also in a wheelchair.
Kamryn :/ yeah, first I get dizzy, then my vision goes sort of black and white (don’t know if that makes sense, but light looks either really light or really dark) and then I’m either sick, or I just wake up afterwards. I’m sorry you’re going through it too, it’s so tough, isn’t it :/ But it does get a little bit easier to manage eventually 😌

Kate Hi! I didn’t have an assessment as I paid for it myself with money from a charity, my own savings & some from a GoFundMe :) You may be able to get one on the NHS but it depends on the your local authorities criteria & involves an assessment and a wait that varies from a couple of months to up to about a year. Hope this helps :)

I'm really good- I am on my final teaching practice for college at the moment so I'm counting down the days until the Easter holidays next week 😂 I've been doing a lot of rereading of old favourites this year but I did read Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson a few weeks ago and loved it! One of my favourite books I've read this year! It is a YA mystery which is something I usually wouldn't read but I was addicted to it! Have you been reading much?

I have a mx1 plus smartdrive now and totally see what you mean about the steering I’ve only used it once so far and had really bad hand cramps trying to steer it any tips ? Deffo don’t regret my decision in getting rid of my efix I’d rather have my invacare bora than my efix :)

I would like to ask if you are able to share any tips for a custom made chair for my needs ? I feel so lost and am having a hard time getting the help I desperately need in the area I’m in . So lately I have made myself reach out and ask a few for any suggestions on a great GI ,Need help with getting nutrition in I think more than any thing else at the time as was told not operable . Many issues and of b so grateful for any suggestions or help that may could lead me to a place that can get me on a road to more answers and HOPE for help and treatment plans before it’s too late . I know I feel Times so short for me . Any help from any one please and I am aware your a patient with lots of wisdom and I know your not a Dr . But I can relate to many things . Bless you ! I am not able to walk but a few steps and have no assisted tools other than caregiver .
I need the right help and understanding from Drs and ones who can relate . Without having those things it’s made my time less than would ever imagine . I want to play with my babies and enjoy my family !
Sissy Dollar I’m so sorry you’re struggling so much, but I really don’t know anything about your symptoms or conditions or even the healthcare system in your area, so it’s tricky for me to help :/ Some general advice is to never give up going to the doctors, tell them this is severely affecting your quality of life. And do you have social services in your area? They can often help with disability equipment, caters and that sort of thing. Maybe if you can tell me more, I might be help a bit. What country are you from, I may be able to research some things to help? Or what are your symptoms? So I can tell you some conditions it may be that you could suggest to your doctor to get tested for etc. I’m so sorry you’re going through such a hard time, but thank you fir reaching out to me, hopefully we can come up with a plan for you between us :)

ilovebrean I can’t actually use the Smartdrive, so the E-Fix is much better for me (due to hand dislocations, uneven paths etc), but it’s a very personal choice and different for everyone
Georgina's Journey so was it the steering on the smart drive you struggled with ? I love my efix still hoping theres a way round getting it onto my new chair :(
ilovebrean the steering, the fact the Smartdrive would fall off or stop working on certain pavements, the battery life was awful, there were a lot of things, the way you control the speed was also temperamental
@@GeorginasJourney I'm an American. Healthcare is a carnage over here so I'd have to ask my doc to prescribe it, then we'd have to submit it to insurance. I have HSD (maybe EDS,we'll see) and POTS and I literally cannot push myself outdoors unless I"m on a totally level sidewalk, which are extremely rare.
