  • This Crown amplifier accepts banana plugs or bare wire.
    Binding post outputs on European models come with safety plugs installed to prevent European power plugs from being inserted.
    In this video i show how to remove those plugs.

    Thanks for the tip. Had no idea how to remove the plugs before.

    Wow. Thanks. I was very confused why I couldn't insert my banana plugs and the manual didn't help.

    I'd put my banana plugs into where the speaker cable goes, i thought what an awful design... Nope, just a stupid user. Thank you for this.

    Thanks, got my 1002's safety plugs out lickety split! Would've been a PITA if I had had to try to figure it out by myself.

    I love that they accept bananas bare wire or neutrik connectors. I use the later on my Crowns.

    I use the speakon terminals with my crown amps. When I had consumer gear and used banana plugs I plugged them into the top holes.

    I was able to remove on XLI 800 easily by fully seating the outer plastic (no wires connected) and using a small flat head screw driver. Popped right out and can then be plugged back in without and visual damage.

    This would have taken me forever to figure out!
    Why would they think it is a good idea to plug up those ports?

    How can I have individual volume control remotely of each channel? Preferable under $30
    Thought about splicing up two RCA bass knobs + - input with the sub wire then the other
    out RCA on the knob directly into the amp....but I don't understand how to
    determine if that is suitable for the 100-300 watt RMS draw from each channel
    Will this work and if so any concerns/cons? Or any better options? Would appreciate
    replies from anyone that would be knowledgeable on best way to accomplish this.
    Cheers!

    What possible danger is there in mistakenly plugging a hairdryer into an amplifier output? It’s speaker cable banana PLUGS that should come with special warnings in the EU. Banana jacks pose no risk.

    A part of the plastic screw was broken and now stuck in the banna plug terminal. Any solution to fix this ?

    • @mygiguser

      if it doesn't fall out when you turn the amp and try to shake it out, you could try a thinner screw, and maybe heat it up (the screw) with a lighter?

    • @mygiguser

      or better maybe use a small drill bit?

    Hi, I have the same 'exact' amp. How do you 'bridge-wire' it to use 1 speaker using wire (+,-) cables?

    How do I get the quarter inch cables to work? I plug them in as much as I can and I still get no sound to my passive speakers. Help would be appreciated.

    • @mygiguser
      @mygiguser  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you remove the plugs as shown in the video? Then next step setup (user manual) or i made a video for bridge mode here: th-cam.com/video/bUytbBzgD8s/w-d-xo.html One of the settings is input sensitivity, you may want to try a different setting there?

    • @marcusdavey9747
      @marcusdavey9747 ปีที่แล้ว

      The amp only has 1/4” inputs, not speaker outs. 1/4” speaker cables won’t work with binding post/banana jacks or Speakons, which are the only two output choices.

    Why the hell they put the plugs in the first place? Were they planning to hide diamonds or cocaine in there (No body scan on goods for import/export - I guess)when they designed the amps?

    Is there a way to fasten the banana plugs to prevent them from falling out, or do they stay in place fairly well after they're plugged in? Thanks for the vid...even the technical support at Crown couldn't tell me what you demonstrated.

    • @mygiguser
      @mygiguser  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      n0g4rdd3r they stay in , because they are pretty tight. If you need a connection that is pull resistant then you could use Speakeon connectors

    • @zangzang1268
      @zangzang1268 ปีที่แล้ว

      They don't stay in - well for a while they will, but not over the long haul. With a 4 ohm load anything over 500 watts RMS over time will overheat banana plugs and they will loosen and arc - guaranteed. I have a dozen XTi amps, the only one in the series that has decent output terminal block design is the XTi 6002. The 1002, 2002, & 4002 will not accept flat terminal lugs on the output terminals.
      Putting bare wires under screw lugs is a really piss poor solution to output interface as is the use of banana plugs. Use of "Wire Ferrules" is the best way to do it. This is per Crown Technical Support.
      Crown really dropped the ball on this aspect of otherwise good amps. QSC screwed up their PLD line about as bad using Neutrik Speakon as the outputs. To interface a PLD amp to a IO patch panel one need to use expensive Speakon connectors on the amp. What a joke.
      The XTi 6002 output terminals will accept flat spade lug terminals which work great.
      Crown plugs the output terminals of these amplifiers to satisfy "European" requirements as noted in the video.

    Do realize you can just plug them into the hole on the top. Or you could just stick the bare wire in there on the top. And then screw the terminal back down on the wire to tighten it

    • @mygiguser
      @mygiguser  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The point of banana plugs is to connect/disconnect faster, if needed.

    • @maxammo6282
      @maxammo6282 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mygiguser yeah you can plug them in and disconnect them from the top or use bare wire. 🧐🤨
