AWESOME! Being italian and a painter; I just want to thank you not just for uploading your video, but also for your naration of the history of just 1 of the many inventions that Da Vinci came up with. THANK YOU!!!
I know that "800 mile" feeling. A desire to control something with your own hands, to watch it with your own eyes, the anticipation of childhood dreams coming true, the freedom to tinker with something and take it apart on your own terms. Sometimes it's everything you imagined and sometimes it's a sad story of a wasted journey. The Avitron is almost certainly a better flyer then the Da vinci. There's a video with a guy that looks like Ba'al from sg1 flying an avitron and it looks very capable.
Just a note, this is most likely not proportional left-right control. Left or right just rolls the motor, and will tend to run to either end, which you observed.. Get it going straight, then to go right give it a very quick tap right. To end the turn, a quick tap left to get back to center. Then left for left etc. For a harder right turn, give two taps out then two taps back, etc.. Add drag to the motor spinning if it's still too quick around center motion..
Basically went around and around in circles to the left until I bent the little rudder almost to 90 degrees to the right. After that final adjustment to trim I could get it to fly straight only with total right input. I have a feeling the wings are out of trim somehow. I need to take a look at this. Also I could not get mine to fly as high up as yours in the video - it pretty much sinks as it flies. I was considering taking off the nose protector to lighten it.
If you are obliged to bent anything to the right, it will take a great part of the power because air drag. So don't be surprised ! You have first to find why the dissimetry and correct it, not artificially counter it.
@ht448 with most electric rc helis the average flight time is around 7-10 minutes, max flight times are usually around 30 minutes with special batteries but only on larger aircraft that can carry the extra weight. however gas powered helicopters can fly for extremely long durations.
@dialbo36 it's hard to get spare parts for this ornithopter, i couldn't locate any online, i had to make a push rod out of wire and epoxy when mine broke. it took a lot of tinkering to make it work.
@barto249 that must be the duck hunter version, they wear also supposed to have a version where one person flys the duck and the other person shoots it down, but i never saw it on store shelves.
@taoistflyer Ya know the msr lifts just a few grams here and there, the foam box a rather large search light and an airwolf and Md500 scale body kits etc. with the 160 mAh lipos we do okay. Thanks for watching. I enjoy your site and learn and watch it when I can. Cheers from South Florida. J...P.S. we have a foam grand scale piano we might try soon.lol.J
@edgow13 light quick stick movements help, if you hold the stick all the way right or all the way left for more then a second the aircraft will spiral downward. the more space to fly in the better, and good eyesight helps since it's so small. I was happy when i could keep it in the air for more then a minute so don't expect to much from it.
The background history research helps. The simplicity of the structure makes it more difficult 2 control n fly. But I feel the video shows lot of lights n less of the bird, man. Sorry to note. A part of the flight in slow motion wud have been nice with proper lighting. I remember here a recent video of showing a RC Butterfly with twin wings, flying just like as Mother Nature had made it ( well almost.)..I TRY 2 provide u with the data, if I can get it again, if u want. Thanx 4 d vid.
@taoistflyer i just got them and flew them.........they fly OK but the foward-backward trim dosent work and it cant fly backwards, it just slows down........other than that it is good but very sensitive............but it sucks up battires.........3 AAA for controller and 8 aa for charging box.... i will make a vid on it soon :)
@DAMIENloh1970 It's very fast and if you turn it to hard it will spiral down so you need to give it quick small movements. the turning mechanism doesn't always re center when you let of the controls so it can be difficult to fly. It is really tiny and cool though.
Bravo!!, El 1° proyecto serio que veo que sea funcional, de bajo costo y muy creativo. Hace unos años quise hacer con desguace de 2 🚁 un ave machine, lo complete bastante pero supe que no volaría. Tenés que vender te compro 1
wow thats great!!!!! i also just won two 3 ch helis for me and my dad and they seem ti mimic or knock off of the airhogs reflex on how it looks and how it works!!! they should be coming soon!!!!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, thank you all for making it so popular. check out our channel for more videos like this one, I suggest checking out or new (How It Works) videos wear we discuss things like how gyros work and we talk about news stories like meat grown in a lab and Googles new glasses.
I built a non RC one from bits and scraps around my house to show to my classmates And you know what it actually flies in a similar fashion to hummingbirds after which I built it off
+AI WordTyper V3 Thank you, you wouldn't be the first person to call me the Bob Ross of the R/C world, he was a great artist and speaker, I loved his show as a kid.
I got something like this from the same company. It's was called the duck hunt and basically the ornithopter duck would fly around and you had to shoot it down with an infra red gun. Lots of fun
looks really great! i have a question about the design, the upper part is flexible? it seems to be much more efficient than the two arms ornithopters, just one arm and two axis, but i still dont understand how, so i imagine that the upper part is flexible like a wire...? Muchas Gracias!
If you look at 2:23 and watch the slow motion video of the wings flapping you can see the arms stay pretty straight. They are just carbon fiber rods, but the wing membrane is flexible and makes the whole thing more efficient by creating less drag and more power on each flap.
@edgow13 I have It was my first ornithopter, i have a video review of it posted, it was a lot of fun and it performed much better then i ever expected.
I have one and will be trying for a maiden flight tomorrow morning. I'll be sure and bring CA glue and a spare push rod with me for the inevitable field repairs...
+J Martin D Valencia Lo compré en ebay . son muy difíciles de encontrar. Este sitio web vende una versión rubberband powerd por un. es de una versión de la ornithoter Da Vince . Sólo cuesta $ 6.98 . I had a free flight ornithopter powered by a rubber band--my kids loved it.
@1makermovie speeding up the throttle makes up go up, holding the throttle steady makes it fly straight, lowering the throttle makes it go down.

@achemachew The infra red is pretty good considering how small the receiver is, but it was a problem at times and it meant no outdoor flight.
@ScottishMaple that's actually one of the only places left in the world selling them, they don't export outside of Canada though.
@fishypaw thanks for watching. I haven't heard from you in a while, hope things are going well with your heli
My cats would go crazy with this 'toy'!
I am very impressed
Great man
Where can i buy the motor and gears?

@taoistflyer probably need a better Tx like Futaba, with little expo/dual rate adjustment, it should be easier to control
@jgoudeau207 thanks for watching, I saw your MSR cargo carrying vid, how much weight could it hold.

very cool video with some nice history. Thanks for sharing.
It was a Nova special called Leonardo's dream machines. I haven't seen it on youtube, maybe hulu.

Parabéns ,belo trabalho ,um incentivo aos inventores com princípios básicos ,para novas maquinas voadoras !
my new fav video ... this is simply amazing...

Nice part of history, that was an awesome review of this ornithopter well done.
@MrThanathos2010 It was a good show, she actually got that thing flying, to bad the cross bow didn't work.
that's really cool and great for the price you paid! Great video!

He I don’t know why we can live right Da Vinci history the world smallest Ornithopter diy:
how did the flight go
from where did you get it if you know then tell me
Must be really useful as a Hummingbird Camera!
You made it on the homepage!!
@taoistflyer Yeah. With all the infrared the sun is shining, it confuses the receiver.
@CooBM thanks for watching.
Very cool man, will have to look for one for myself.
i got one of these in china for less than $1 & you wind it up & it flies pretty well it also glides really well after its done flapping
I'm glad you enjoyed the video,
thank you all for making it so popular.

your voice is amazing its like Bob ross got into the Rc hobby

start looking through parts on banggood .com. nano receivers and nano flight controllers as well as actuators, motors, and servos.
Yes I would love to know the name of the toy you mentioned
@DAMIENloh1970 a better receiver would help, maybe something from placntraco.
I got something like this from the same company. It's was called the duck hunt and basically the ornithopter duck would fly around and you had to shoot it down with an infra red gun. Lots of fun
I never got to try that one out, there was supposed to be an RC version and a free fly version.
Is the tail being controlled through motors as well? Or is it simply static to balance it out?
where can you buy it
I have all you fans to thank for helping get us on the youtube homepage.
Thank you every one.
Subscribe and keep watching.

That sounds like a fun little toy
It flys pretty well.
Very good
These are a lot more popular now, 2 years later.
Perfect
