  • The NFL draft has come and gone. Dane Brugler from The Athletic breaks down the entire Cleveland Browns draft class for UCSS.
How do each of three picks workout for the Cleveland Browns?
Mike Hall Jr. - A two-year starter at Ohio State, Hall was interchangeable at one- and three-technique in defensive coordinator Jim Knowles’ four-man front. His college stat sheet is underwhelming, especially from his final season in Columbus (2.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks), but his pass rush win rate (18.3 percent) was second best among FBS defensive tackles in 2023 (behind only Byron Murphy II).
With his first-step burst and lateral agility, Hall quickly gets vertical and is a tough player to handle one-on-one. He uses his long arms and natural leverage to work underneath blocks, although his lack of size and anchor put him in compromised positions, especially versus the run.
Overall, Hall was more of a flash player than a consistent force, but his quick-twitch movements and natural energy are the ingredients of a disruptive gap penetrator. If he stays healthy, he will be an immediate rotation player and eventual starting three -technique tackle in a four-man front.
Zak Zinter - A four-year starter at Michigan, Zinter was entrenched as the starting right guard in former head coach Jim Harbaugh’s power-spread offense. A three-time All-Big Ten honoree, he played well as a senior (zero sacks allowed, zero penalties) until his broken leg against Ohio State, which unfortunately sidelined him for the entire draft process. An assignment-sound run blocker, Zinter uses body strength and proper positioning to lean on defenders and drive them with churning legs. While he is strong at the point of attack to stand up rushers in pass protection, he struggles to recover versus quickness in one-on-one matchups.
Overall, Zinter won’t impress with explosion or leverage, but he is big, smart and physical, which allows him to control defenders, especially in closed quarters. He can have a Mark Glowinski type of NFL career, although his leg injury puts a discount sticker on his draft projection.
Jamari Thrash - A one-year starter at Louisville, Thrash was used primarily as an outside receiver in head coach Jeff Brohm’s spread scheme. After leading the Sun Belt in receiving in 2022 at Georgia State, he transferred to Louisville in 2023 and quickly announced himself as the Cardinals’ No. 1 pass catcher (led the team in receiving in seven of the first eight games, before a broken hand hindered him over the final month).
Quicker than fast, Thrash is an agile route runner with natural ball-tracking skills. However, he struggles to finish catches through contact, and his lack of play strength will be more pronounced at the next level.

people dont know what to do with the browns roster lol some people weigh QB way too heavily and have the Browns anywhere from 12 to 17 and some people understand the assignment and put them top 3 and then people shit their pants and lose their minds because DW4 isn't a top 3 qb 🤣 the fact of the matter is; If you wiegh things evenly and look up and down the rosters in the NFL, the Browns have at least the 3rd best ROSTER in the NFL. keyword ROSTER. that means an aggregate of everyone

for real, and browns are the exact opposite, great at every position beside qb. Deshaun got injured and we won 7 of our 11 winning games without him!

People give me shit cause we got rocked by Houston. I said the same thing, if a team loses their starting QB, nvm their first three QBs their season would've been over. Winning 11 games in the toughest division in the NFL with all those injuries was ridiculous! By the playoffs our o line was trash. Couldn't run or pass block, and people r shocked we got spanked lol.

Our roster when healthy stacks up with the best in the NFL! Our line is better that KC, rbs, wrs, def, depth. QB makes or breaks EVERYTHING! Even our coaching staff is loaded!

I seriously think Jay is a Shittsburgh transplant! I know we may not have a number 3 roster, but no.... I am not trading the whole team.

If Patrick gets hurt and injuries can happen how good are they? See Cincy last two years with Joe B hurt and only played 10 games last two years but Jay want them in top 5. Go figure 🤷‍♂️

Take away starting QB and the browns unequivocally have the better roster. However the way the question was posed you have to take the chiefs.
    Mahomes is Mahomes

I’m sorry, I tried to listen to this show again but I just can’t. I quit listening a few months back but the takes are just absolutely horrendous, make zero sense across the board. Maybe I’ll check back in next year to see if they’ve smartened up but probably not. Typical Cleveland media.

Full stop. It's not fair to even have this conversation because Patrick Mahommes is Jordan and no one can have an honest conversation about rosters top to bottom when you are looking through the eyes of having "Jordan" on your team.
But the REALITY is the browns went 11-6 with one of the hardest schedules in the league with 4 QBs down to a guy carpooling a week before suiting up and NO NICK CHUBB.
And you don't think this a top five roster? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
The NFL is PRAYING Watson is average and Chubb is slow coming back TRUST me.
