I'm a single parent with 4 kids, two of them have additional needs. Someone was recently talking about having a difficult time with their child. They then said "oh, you must think this is silly, when you have 4 kids" I absolutely did not. It's all relative. I hate people who engage in who's life is harder when someone opens up. If I could afford to pay someone to my ironing I absolutely would too! Nobody gives you a medal for struggling through.
It’s not that the host was uncomfortable by someone else struggling more than her but the fact that her lifestyle was being questioned .. who wants to hear something to the effect of “well if I could do it, why couldn’t you?” While talking at their own dinner party about a topic that was asked of them. That other couple is just so argumentative.
I get that the host couple are in a position of privilege, but it just sounds to me like she was trying (maybe in a clumsy way) to relate to her guests, and she's been raked over the coals for it. Wild

I don't know why people are always having to compete about who has a "harder" life? In most cases we don't even know enough about the other person to truly know how hard their life is. Almost everybody I know says they have had a hard life, for one reason or another, and I believe them all tbh. I can only two people I've ever met who say they've had an easy life. It can be annoying when really rich people claim they're poor (or were in the past), when they probably weren't. But in all fairness when you've been rich your whole life and always been around other rich people then something like not being able to go on holiday classifies them as poor.
It's funny how it's the two ladies that turned out to be grating. In the beginning I thought meimei and hubby might be a little too much to take. Turns out they're the best of this lot.

I have to disagree; as a gardener I've worked for a lot of people with posh houses and posh gardens, and all of those people worked their arses off to get those things; none of it magically landed in their lap.

I don’t know if you’ve ever been to the uk or if you live there but a house like this is actually THAT nice. This would be classed as a big house here considering 3/4 houses here don’t even have a dining room. This definitely is not a ‘normal house’ and also of people wont be able to own or afford a home like this.

@@natb9919 I eat home made most of the time just use the micro stuff if I'm in a rush (work dinner etc) and once you mix butter and milk in with it it tastes no different, trust me! The micro mash I buy is just potato anyway

I think because of the History of Europe we’ve come to expect these 22 room mansions with Victorian features or Georgina fireplaces. This house here in SA would be seen as small and for an average family. But then again the housing market in the UK is insane because of the lack of space. But it’s still jarring to see
