Everyone is upset about this Walnut being cut up for firewood, and quoting prices in the thousands for this wood. Well, I tell you what. You can come to my farm and give me that money and I will gladly quit cutting Walnut for firewood! 😁 But the truth is, that those saying "I would have bought that wood", are doing just that. TALKING!!! No one ever shows up to buy. Therefore, the wood is more useful to me as firewood, and is OUT OF MY WAY! So Pete, continue on, and don't worry about the naysayers. It is ALL TALK unless they SHOW UP! And for what it is worth, I too, am a woodworker, and I have made a few small tables and turnings in my shop for personal use, or gifts. But even I can only use so much wood.

I had a good little laugh when your chainsaw took four pulls. I have a Husqvarna too that’s about 20 years old and it always starts in three pulls…unless I tell someone, then it’ll make me a liar every time 😂
Everybody knows Hilarie is the star of the show. She makes you look good Pete. Firewood is one of my favorite things to do. Something relaxing about it and a rite of passage into winter. You just can't beat wood heat. Especially when it hardly costs anything but a little fuel and labor.
I have to say Pete that I honestly believe that the Case mini excavator was the best investment you have ever made for the farm. Massive labor saver! It's also a great big boys toy. LOL!
As a teenager growing up I spent lots of time working in the bush with neighbours cutting and splitting wood when winter came. The ground would freeze up nice and we could get around easy with the tractor and dump wagon. I like the saying "wood warms twice, once when you cut it and again when you burn it"...
You keep finding a new use for the excavator. As a wood turning it was hard to watch all that beautiful walnut be split for firewood. I saw visions of walnut bowls going up in smoke. Enjoy your channel and keep up the good work.
So many uses for a mini excavator , especially with a thumb . You just don’t realize how much that little machine can do . Also what a back saver it is . Hey Pete that recoil is crying for a little loving attention 😢
Great video, Pete. Yes, firewood and food. The original hard asset. Great video. I'm very happy to see the engine back. Can't wait to see some progress on the 856. Have a great week. See you guys Wednesday.
That mini will become more and more your tool of choice for a lot of those used to be strong arm tasks! Your back, shoulders, legs and arms will last a lot longer! Great small farm tool! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving! My father and I love your videos!
Hot coffee and approaching shower time to get ready for church, and a Pete/Hilarie video. A nice Sunday morning tradition. God bless you two and keep warm.
I am not someone who has to comment all the time. But this I will say. Your wife Hillary, she truly loves you to be out in the cold weather working like a team. Can't wait to see you work on your indoor projects. Enjoy your videos.
Fantastic Pete! I am so happy for you and your progress on the workshop!! It will be a phenomenal addition to your life! You disserve this workshop as people forget farmers do not work a 40 hour week and have 4 weeks holidays each year! We work 24/7/365 and we need these little luxuries!
Hi Pete, just wanted to say thank you for all your lovely videos. I used to always watch them as soon as you posted them, but haven't been able to keep up since becoming a mom in January. My son is now almost 11 months old and very easily distracted when I'm trying to breastfeed him. Your videos, so full of nature and at a slower pace than most children's programs, are helping him to focus. Today he has a cold and has even more trouble drinking, so we are very happy to see a new "boer Pete" (Dutch for "farmer Pete") video! Thank you again!
Cutting firewood has been a part of my life for at least 65 years. I'm 72 and helped tote and stack since I was big enough to carry a stick. I still enjoy cutting firewood but it's getting a little harder every year 🤔
Pete, thank you for a half hour of calming sanity - I love watching you and Hillary just doing normal, everyday activities. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner with your family❤
Merry Christmas Pete. Thank you for cheering me up all these years. I became disabled, I worked on farms before as farm hand. Thank you, I cant wait for my "C'mon on Cows" T-shirt.
That tree was incredibly strong and gives me a renewed respect for those folks that cleared land without machinery. Great video…just how I like to spend my Sunday morning - if not doing the work myself, your videos gives me enjoyment and peace.
Thanks for the morning video Pete. The weekends wouldn't be the same. I could watch you cut and split wood all day. It's really relaxing watching.....when it's not yourself out there doing the work. lol Stay safe, and WARM!
Oh Pete, Craig from Lees Summit, Mo…..seeing all of those freshly machined International parts has me drooling for that upcoming content!! I was one of your proponents for keeping the Internationals drivetrain original, and I gotta say those machined parts came out beautiful!! I would love to see your dad assist you and your son assembling that engine in a future episode!
It's always relaxing and enjoyable watching the content of this channel. Your lifestyle is like a flashback to the earlier, simpler times in the USA. You don't have all the modern stressors of bigger city life with too many people living close by, traffic, etc. I love it.
The truck engine work looks good! It's always fun to assemble a new (rebuilt) engine. That Husqvarna is a trooper! I used to cut up 12 cord a year with a 16 inch Remington about 44 years ago and it was a year long project. I had no splitter or tractor, so everything was done by hand unfortunately. But I was a rough & tumble young man at the time so it was all good. Well done, you two! Food, firewood and hay is the best kind of security there is!
Thank you Pete. I really enjoyed cutting firewood. Frequently one of the mature cottonwood trees would go down in a storm. My folks had a surplus of boys so we tackled trunks as thick as 8 feet with a whip crosscut saw into 10 foot length. Then hammer, and wedges into manageable sizes to dry for a buzzsaw on the H. Amazing how in a day we could process a large tree. You Frequently take me to a time I enjoyed.
You must have been raised in the same family as I was. We did exactly the same thing. Sometimes we would run the buzzsaw on an F20. I remember the red glow of the exhaust when it would get dark.
@@JamesCouch777 Our neighbor used to roll cigarettes, and light them off of the hot exhaust manifold. I'm glad I was around to see things like that James.

Incredible that I so enjoy these videos. I am a 60+ lady who never lived on a farm but I always thought I should have as I love the smells and sounds of a farm. I truly enjoy watching how life is on the farm. It is like pulling back the curtain on a life I have never known. Quick question. Does Hilary like working in the house doing house work stuff or out on the farm doing chores. She is a mystery, a pleasant one for sure. Thank you for a wonderful Sunday visit.
Pete, great video! This once again proves why you are my favorite subscription. I wish I could take this entire video back two years and show it to that Pete. The one who was looking for new purpose, what to do with the pig business, and what does "scaling back" look like. This video would have answered all of that Pete's questions. Stay safe my friend! Murfreesboro, TN
Pete great video. Enjoy watching you and Hillary doing firewood. I remember splitting firewood with a splitting maul and wedges. Good hard work. A wood splitter sure makes the job easier. Enjoy the game and have a great rest of your weekend. Thank you.
Its been said a bunch of times, but that excavator is paying dividends this season. Like most of us, I look forward to all your updates on the upcoming projects this winter. Thanks for sharing your lifestyle. Be well, warm and happy.
Love the cameo of that 6 cylinder engine! The saw and cutting with it. (not so much). Mmmm that was all day yesterday for me and today it's "pick up sticks" time. Best wishes and Thank You so much for sharing all that you do. 〰✨🌿👍🌿✨〰
Pete. Somewhere in this world there are some woodturners that a crying at the lose of walnut turning material! I’m not but, I’ve known a few like Reuben Grell that would do a very large pieces!
That was impressive results Pete. Your hand sharpening skills are exceptional to see how well those rip cuts went through that hard walnut stump send chills, and then wiz through cross cuts too. That takes fa-nominal skill.
That mechanized log splitter sure earned it's keep today. Imagine using a maul and wedge to do the same thing---you'd (if you lived through it) still be hammering away until mid summer! Engine block and fitting look so cool and ready for a test fire????? lol. Thanks for making me feel warm and snuggly watching you two braving the nasty and getting'er done.
Great video, Pete, Good to see the Case excavator put to good use, we have a Takeuchi with a grab on, couldn't imagine life without it. I'm looking forward to the iH truck engine rebuild videos coming 👍🏻
Thanks for sharing, my husband looks so forward to your videos especially the mechanics! You do such a great job explaining and teaching us your techniques, thank you farmer Pete stay warm ❤
Outstanding....What a great video ! Hillary did agreat job helping to split the wood. I did have a thought about selling off the black walnut logs but you made the right decision. Plenty of fire wood and it will burn better knowing you and Hillary worked together on it. You have talent and know how to get the most out of everything. The equipment did a great job. Love your work ethic !!!❤
Good morning Pete great to see you working the homestead cutting and splitting wood very satisfying...you surely got your money's worth out of the excavator this year...Wow p.s. nice haircut Pete!!

Another great video. I could see a lot of wood turners that would have been more than happy to get their hands on some of those large chunks of walnut wood. I've seen many beautiful bowls made from walnut wood. I'm like you, I always sharpen the saw chains free handed. Don't need any of the expensive gadgets that are on the market. I can make a dull chain cut just like a new one. Thanks for sharing your day with us once again. Until next time. God bless.
Happy Thanksgiving weekend Pete, you were Handeling those big cuts to the spitter, those were some bign,s for sure and bless Hillary heart she was handeling those big pieces coming off the splitter! I kinda wondered whether you were being a boy with his toys when you bought that excavator, but NOPE -- you were being a hard-headed *bidnessman* instead! It's a pleasure to watch somebody who's good at so many things. God bless you and yours.
What you say in every video makes a lot of sense. This video, however, I completely agree with how you sharpen your chains, I do the exact same thing. There are a lot of videos on TH-cam in how to sharpen a chain, but many of them do not make sense to me. Your’s does. thank you
Good morning Pete! Those big blocks of wood when split sure makes up lots of firewood. Funny you didn't have nails or spikes or bolts in it. Any trees I cut around old farmyard there was always hardware in the wood. Your truck engine looks great! Brag those guys up like crazy that machined everything. Hard to get quality work nowadays. On both sides of the border.
What a fine team you two make. It wasn't that long ago when it took a small army of offspring to keep a farming operation going. With the aid of modern equipment, you might get by with fewer people, but what a difference an extra set of willing hands can make. May God bless all of you with a healthy and prosperous 2025!
Pete, you sure made a good investment in the backhoe,as you have put it to good use in firewood and tile and excavation work. You have some good firewood out of the walnut.😊
Those large diameter trees are always a pain to deal with, even when you have the blades that will reach over half way through, you did good getting it cut. Those bigger blocks of wood are always tough to load a split, not a big fan of doing them, but sometimes that's what a fellow has to do. They did a nice job on your engine block, head and other parts. Thanks for the video, have a great day!
I've owned an 460 Husqvarna for a few years and love it. 24" bar is more than enough for me. Currently taking a warmup break from bringing in wood to my garage. What better to do, watch others doing the same! 😂
Should’ve cut a table slab off the but of that log . I’m betting Pete could have turned out something spectacular with it but…. Can’t wait to see the motor video 😁 . Wonderful video Pete . Stay warm .👍
I must admit Pete when you first bought that excavator I was like it’s useful but will Pete really use it that much? One of your most useful pieces of equipment after all Pete!
You my man have a LOT of snow coming your way, surprised it's not there yet. Stay warm, stay safe. I assume the next video will be you pushing that snow !
As a 71 year old woodturner, I have to tell you Pete, you broke my heart cutting up all that beautiful crotch grain walnut for firewood.

That mini excavator has been a great addition to your farm
I was thinking the same thing. It's paid for itself several times over already.
Every time he shows it, I wonder how I live without one.
And when he first bought it I thought to myself, why would you buy something like that. You're just throwing your money away....lol
