Hi there I have a question, I’m assuming its required to have the register/grille in place to measure the flow in each run? If so that would pretty much require a flow hood rather than just using a simple anemometer and an area calculation because of the difference in air velocity created by the grille area vs the actual duct area. Is there any way to accurately measure cfm with the register in place with an anemometer?

That is how we did it before hoods were created. Yea the grille needs to be installed and then you use a rotating vane anemometer to read the average velocity then multiply the average velocity times the open area of the grille. (The grille catalog should list the open area of the grille.)
