An interview with the developer of this game would be great. 😉😉

Yeah, would be interesting, from what I see they made a commercial game on steam with a similar rope mechanic "Below The Ocean", would be interesting to hear about their experience.

@@RockyMulletGamedev I actually checked the guys game out based on this comment and ended up buying it. It’s super stellar and worth every penny of its low price. This guy has a real nack for coming up with really unique and interesting mechanics for platformers. I’d def recommend i.

This kind of design really gives me that one of a kind feeling you get from DS and similar extremely well designed games. Well Done!

I played this game which ranked just one spot above my game and was absolutely blown away as to what was accomplished, especially by just one developer, he really outdid himself and it's a great case study in game design. Happy to hear he's been featured on Kotaku and your channel and is deserving all the success he's been having, it's a great game! It's inspired me to shoot higher for next jam :)

    Art - style is, also just . . phenomenal . .

    • @LoggyDev

It reminds me of how game dev's back in the NES era had to be creative with the limited tools they had.
It feels right at home in that era, back when creativity in game development was key to pulling off an engaging and lucrative product.
      Plus it's fun.

I like the ZX Spectrum aesthetics. It is a good decision when you have very limited time to finish the game and want to focus on making the gameplay as good as possible and not spend time on color coordinating a lot of pixels.

I recommend you give your character a Viking mead mug (hope you know what I mean) hanging from his waist and then make the checkpoints mead kegs or barrels that he fills up his mug with and then drinks to show a new checkpoint this would also add in the ‘mead aspect better’ or you could make the mead kegs at the end of levels

Is it bad form though to leverage so much of another published game as a jam entry? IMO no wonder this game shined among others.
Maybe it’s just me, but I feel this approach goes against the spirit of what it’s all about. When I’ve done this I’ve preferred using jams as a unique opportunity to try something I’ve never tried before.
