So glad I’ll be seeing Peter Next October in Palm Springs. In 1980 I was 16 years old and had been a die hard Genesis / Gabriel fan since I was 14. 94.7 KMET (the mighty MET) announced he was doing a record signing for his new album (3, or “melt”) at Tower Records on Sunset BLVD during the day on a school day. I begged my parents to let me miss school so that I could drive to Hollywood from the San Fernando Valley to meet my hero. They said yes. So I waited in line with scores of other people. At least an hour passed as the line slowly advanced. I waited, with Nursery Cryme in my hands while Tower Records played the new record over and over and we all listened. The crowd was mostly quietly listening the entire time. When it was finally my turn, he warmly said hello and asked my name. I told him my name and he signed the record. I was too nervous to say anything else, although I longed to tell him how much I loved him, and how much his music had meant to me. It is such a vivid, perfect memory. And it was a perfect day. ❤
My Favorite PG Song 🎵 (and GOD Knows, I have many!) There's something magical about his voice over the keys. The version that appears on Robert Fripp's Exposure Album is just... Awesome! ❤
I was at that SO TOUR in Germany. In Nürnberg. Was 16 years way back then. This Tour and album SO was the superstar breakthrou for GABRIEL. There is a very good documentary about SO album making
Thanks Eagle Rock for this upload. What a memories!!!
Echoes from PF and this song - awakening of people! I am so happy my father saved the best prog records until today and helped me to find the most beautiful music ever. Greetings to all good people, who want to listen, from Serbia (or "dark" socialist Yugoslavia where generation of my parents enjoyed Genesis, Pink Floyd (I still have Dark Side of the Moon published in Yugoslavia under licence by Yugoton :)) and other great bands creating music that is no longer made anywhere in this shinny capitalism we got.
Can’t agree this is a particular good performance. First of all, the song is shortened and the electric Yamaha piano brings in an element of „plastic“. Cold as the 80s.
It is extremely irritating that the audio has been somehow pitched up by a semitone to Dm. There's no way PG sang it at this pitch - you can tell just from listening - he sounds unnaturally high. I can't think why this was allowed to happen. An incredible moment by an incredible artist somewhat ruined.
Something has been fucked up in post-production. PG won't have sung it on stage in this key. I'm not a tech, but it's possible that the original tapes are too slow when played at the correct pitch. It sounds petty to make a fuss, but we're not listening to what the audience heard, which is a massive shame
Yes. Sounds like it's got chorusing and "shimmer" reverb courtesy of the Eventide processor in the rack to his left. I miss my CP-80. I was offered "silly" money for it from a local recording studio. I found a smaller CP-70 the next week which I still have, but has never sounded as good as that CP-80. Videos of both on my channel.
I was in this concert and it was one of the most beautiful nights of my life!
Surely one of the most under rated songs of all time.
Never underrated, just no.
Ma che cazzo dici
VERY underrated!! Love it!
The man with the voice that can make you cry, make you groove, and give goosebumps with it’s power
What a man ... what talent ... what genius ... what a song ... I love this man and all he has done in the world of music 😍❤

His voice dominates without borders...
Peter Genius Gabriel...
Ooh, what a song. What a rendition.
Goddamn he sounds like he just walked out of a Lamb Lies Down On Broadway recording session 13 years earlier. Voice didn't change!

Was he singing live there? It didn't sound too live to me.
@@EugeniaLoli I am sure he was. I was quite close to the stage and his neck showed huge singing effort most of time.
Classic.
Best version ever.
Try the version on Robert Fripps album exposure, I think its excellent. There’s a few great versions of this song he’s performed tbh.

The advert is nearly as long as the song! I wanted the second verse!
Esta vaina no puede ser mejor, de pana.
Lord, her comes the Corona Flood!
Go ahead Citibank and Schwabb, hide in your island. You were my neighbor and incredibly friendly in San Rafeal when you opened the SCAM.

Yes, this is like Don Henley doing Hotel California in e- minor today!

The pitch corrected version is on the special edition of So on Spotify
Is that a Yamaha CP-80 Peter is playing?
