For anyone who wants the battery information, here is what the battery reads: Logitech is using a Springpower Technology Li-Poly battery that’s rated for 750mAh at 3.7V (2.775Wh). The model number appears to be 383450. The battery measures roughly 50x35, +/-1mm.

i watched the g900 review from the description and i gotta say i'm disapointed, u were mentioning their measurements and talking about tech in the mouse, which is all good and well, except there was no measurements done by gamersnexus in regards to the mouse's precision, for example:
max tracking rate, positive or negative acceleration checks, prediction tests, jitter tests (often existing at laser sensors and at insane useless high dpi sensors), your own latency tests, not going by logitech's data, lift of distance, checking if the mouse works perfectly on all possible mousepads, inlcuding, hard pad, cloth pad and metal pad.
basically i do not know if this mouse is precise from your video and article all i got is your subjective opinion and logitechs results, which we can't trust of course.
please consider changing this for the future, i know mouse reviews aren't gn's specialty, but u certainly can step it up to the benefit of all your viewers.
think about your mouse review like a graphics card review without benchmarks in a way, it's quite useless.
this is positive criticism btw, not hating, but being frustrated with the lag of real reviews of mice on the internet nowadays and i know u can step it up and want to give your viewers and readers the best data to decide on.

cataria pega, I agree with you. I hope GN would eventually get to do the kind of deep reviews into mice like they do with other stuff.
Check Rocket Jump Ninja channel in the mean time, he does a great job with mice.

    • @Thunterise
      @Thunterise 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Those are some seriously unreasonable expectations. I have not seen *any* tech youtuber test on those things specifically. I know a lot of people have a somewhat higher expectation of GN compared to others, but GN doesn't have the equipment for that shit mate.

    • @tadi7847
      @tadi7847 6 ปีที่แล้ว

I think t's fair to expect that kind of content from GN based on their GPU and other content, but it's true, it's not easy to go deep on different areas at once.
No independent tests have been done on Logitechs claims over the G900 wireless performance(other than subjective "I don't feel a difference" stuff), which is a shame. Hope someone eventually does it.

    • @cataria3903
      @cataria3903 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

rocket jump ninja does not do objective tests of the mice, but "if it works for me in quake, it should be precise and work for u" kinda thing, he doesn't do max tracking rate checking and all tests are done through his hands, i mean it is enough to point out dirt like the razer lancehead wireless, it's still far from great imo.
if we would do graphics card tests without benchmarks, people would lose their minds about it, but for mice it is ok apparently, and for computer displays too btw, almost no one does latency testing on displays....
btw ramla777 a small youtube channel at 600 subscribers does max tracking rate checks at the dpi settings the mice have, i don't know what testing he uses, but at least he does it.
don't get me wrong rocket jump ninja is far far better than most of the rest of "reviews" out there, but it's not enough to do an objective decision on.
i can look at a gamersnexus graphics card review and i will know pretty much exactly what i got: sound level, temps, normalized temps/soundlevel, performance overclocking head room undervolting and very important vrm quality and efficiency!... everything i need to know and more.
steve even said in past videos, that he doesn't review psus for example, because of the knowledge and tech needed to do it properly, like johnyguru does for example, but that kind of knowledge or tech is not needed to make a mouse review much much better.
and keep in mind gn is paying buildzoid to give us the only real vrm reviews of graphics cards and motherboards out there (not including buildzoids own stuff).
so we know gn is doing their best to give us the best reviews they can and maybe they will read this and actually improve their mouse testing, because i know they actually care.

FYI - the metal pin rides on ridges on the inner diameter of the scroll wheel under spring tension, which can be relieved to allow for free wheeling - it's not sticking into the spokes (that would completely block it's rotation).

Any conductor that conducts current generates an EM field so that is a coil on the outside. Also the mouse would charge faster if it moves around the coil as more tension is inducted in the wires when the magnetic field is changing or you have an object moving through the magnetic field

Biggest flaw in g502/g903 that no one mentions about is cheap membrane button under the wheel (middle click) which wears out in a year if used frequently. I enjoyed using my g502 and absolutely love the scroll wheel, however g502 was marketed as full omron switch device and it's shame they omitted using a proper switch for middle click button.

Just in case this has not been answered yet:
In regards to Steve asking about what the coil is referring to,
The green flex PCB with the large copper traces will be the resonant coil in this application.
A coil is just any conductor that forms a loop.
You can make an inductor out of power extension cables when you wind them up for storage.
    Hope this helps.
Side note: In circuits capacitors and inductors dont actually have to be physical components soldered to the PCB. They can be made out of specialized designs and patterns in the copper on PCBs. This technique is quite often used at higher frequencies like in RF (eg 2.4GHz) etc.
(I have an EE background in design and manufacture of consumer electronics)

For accessing the copper coiling inside the mat itself, did the idea of dissolving the inside of the mat in something like acetone leaving only the copper remaining come to mind? I bought my Powerplay on 12. 8. 2019, so 4 years exactly (+few days) and it was used. Still going strong! Just upgraded from G903 to G Pro X Superlight around the time the mouse came out.
I am glad Logitech still supports it as it's a great tech and I bet they patented the snot out of it as I didn't see this implementation from other brand (only a corner of it from Asus or somebody).
But as I didn't see any marketing push or big mentions about Powerplay in their trailers... I worry that they will drop it sooner or later.
Only negative I have is that the cloth top is nowhere to be found for me. The support told me that I bought the right one - the G240 - but you will find out that G240 is soft cloth without hard back. So it will warp and stretch like a carpet from a chasing sequence in a cartoons.
RGB, charging and the reliability is still awesome and charges to 80-85%, so the battery is not being kept at 100% all the time. I never had like an issue with the charging stopping to work or something. It's so great in fact that I made a fool of myself when wireless mice was brought up in a conversation and I was defending it without realizing that only Logitech offers the experience that I was talking about. (fyi - I have nothing against wired mice)

  • @AceStrife

And all the G900/903 and potentially all the rest of their latest 'G' mice are all defective in their switches.. and half of them are defective in their scroll wheels.
Spent $450 + an RMA on these top of the line mice (4 total used), all have had either faulty scroll wheels or the "double click" issue, or both. The longer time goes on, the worse it gets.
The only resolution to the switch issue is to replace them outright, with real japanese omron switches and not whatever the garbage they're using is; so people say anyway.

Awesome teardown! I have used Logitech mice since the stone age. Every time I buy one with the "hyper scrolling" feature, the middle mouse (mouse wheel) click loses gets mushy/unresponsive after about a year of use. The hyper scrolling works forever, and the toggle stays functional, but they middle click dies super easy. Any idea why? Happened on my G700 and my MX Revolution consistently.

From what Iearned in Electromagnetics class, here is my assumption. That outside ring is the inductor that is powered by the usb 5V 2A supply. The inner inductor is magnetically coupled with the outside one and works like a transformer. The output of the inner loop is probably lower voltage but significantly higher current, which allows the generally efficient wireless charging.

I've been using A4 tech NB- series of wireless & battery less mice for the last 10-15 years. friggin' love em. no cables getting stuck on stuff, no batteries weighing it down. (and running out). just works.
It uses a similar design to power it, one of the models even had enough power for an extra LED inside of it. (just felt like testing it, and hey,, it worked).
My biggest problem with them though, has been trying to find a new one, once the buttons wear out. Not all that common here in europe.
this logitech model might just be my next mouse, if it's any good.

What if your g903 stops charging? I can use it when plugged in, and of I plug it in but have it turned off it looks like it's charging (the 3 lights fill and empty, indicating charging mode), but when you unplug it, it just stops working.

Small correction at 21:25. The spokes you see are not for engaging the detent which gives you haptic click as you roll the scroll wheel. Those spokes are the relative encoder that helps to count the rotation. The detent clicks you feel are because of a spring that engages the inside of the scroll wheel at 21:31. They are not very prominent and looks zigzaggy! on the inside rim of the scroll wheel. Think of it like a mechanism from a ratcheting spanner. Sample principle.

Minus the annoying Teflon feet, they should make the mice able to be disassembled.
The reason is that you do need to get in there to clean it every now and then.
I have a Logitech MX310 and I am seriously considering going on a buying spree to have spares because this one is very easy to take down and clean when required.
Especially as dust tends to accumulate in the scroll wheel that is optical based and thus make it stop scrolling efficiently.
A quick disassemble, cleaning of the wheel and you are good to go.
As for the pad, I am a bit bummered, I wish there would be more screws rather than glue, as glue over time has a sad tendency to let go.

Doesn't the 903 have a screwed up mouse wheel button or not have a mouse wheel button at all? I understand it's very different as far as the button layout and scroll wheel assembly goes, or at least the functionality...

@@Psycownage worked amazing. I have not stripped powerplay for mouse and another generic qi charger for g915. Both under MPC 1200.
I didn't strip the powerplay as no matter how much you strip, you'll feel it under mousepad.
So I cut cavity on the table surface instead; since I'm cutting cavity anyways, I can do it a bit more and not strip the powerplay.

I've been using this mouse + pad combo for almost 3 years now and I don't have a single complaint with it. ❤
If you can find a good combo deal or if you're willing to give refurbished/open-box options a chance this combo is a great upgrade or gift option for anyone who enjoys quality tech.
(Although if I'm being completely honest the wireless mouse pad absolutely feels like a luxury that's "nice to have" but totally non-essential.)
You can charge the mouse by cable much quicker than you would on the mousepad and the battery life when the mouse isn't being charged at all is still FANTASTIC after 3 years but I also turn off all unnecessary RGB so keep that in mind
But that's just a 2+ year user's anecdotal data for prospective buyers to consider. Steve gives some great technical info here and that's infinitely more interesting/enlightening.

I really appreciate the wireless charging mat, I have been saying it for years. But truth to be told we had a perfectly good solution with the logitech g7, which was swappable batteries. You just kept 1 in the mouse, and 1 in the charger, and just flipped them. It was light weight and it took about 2 seconds to swap, and you always had a charged mouse.... Then everyone stopped doing that tech and went to fixed battery with the ability to plug the cable in, which meant if you forgot to charge you had to use it cabled... which sucks!, so now they "try" to solve that problem with this fancy new expensive tech... Why not just do the swappable batteries?????

The G903 is the third Logitech mouse I've had to tear down and replace the clickers in due to failure. It's an easy process to actually solder the new Japan-made Omron switch in and toss the China-made switches out, but holy damn this is by far the most complicated mouse I've done this with. It's built in three core levels, and the side buttons cause some major headaches with getting everything back in place.
This is also the first ribbon cable I've torn in quite some time, so def be careful if you go into yours. The ribbon wasn't expensive, but I did have to wait about six weeks for international shipping. Perhaps most tragically, this left me with a trackball and unable to play FPS effectively and now I'm playing WotLK Classic and that's going to be much more expensive than any ribbon cable ever could be, so stay safe out there.

you do not have to worry about replacing the battery in this mouse. the switches will die of static electricity within 6 months, look it. it's a big issue on all logitech x03 mice.
G903 user for 3 months, my left click no longer works, my right click spazzes out. I sent a RMA request for my mouse 5 days ago and Logitech has yet to respond to me.
my 602 had a similar issue. the middle click button would stop working after a few months of use. I won't be purchasing another Logitech product after this experience.

To add a little more information to steves comment on battery charge. Most batteries take the most abuse at full discharge and max charge.
This is the main issue with lithium batteries and why they end up losing their life span. You don't want to leave a lithium at 100% charge or at/below 20% charge. Both of those degrade battery life. Lithium also doesn't have the "memory" effect issue, that's a nicad issue where you almost have to do 100% to 0% discharges.
I haven't been keeping up with nimh batteries, what is in the g700s and i'd assume they are using the same in these, but from what i read it's the same for the most part to nicad
