Kevin - you are a legendary creative, certainly more excellent storytelling going to come out of you
Hayden - STUD DP up there on the summit suffering altitude sickness and cold winds for the shots.
Alden - World Class support specialist - I cannot thank you enough so glad you got to summit
Nathan - Well you already went off and soloed the Cassin Ridge on Denali since this so I don't need to shout out the incredible journey you will continue on

Nathanator358! This project-and the awesome film-are so perfect. The dirtbag mountain beast you are comes through beautifully. Here are a couple questions: How did you and Jason originally connect? And how did your time together on the Bulger project compare to this?

    • @nathanlonghurst7854
      @nathanlonghurst7854 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

I’m glad you enjoyed it! I first got in touch with Jason with questions about the Rainier Infinity Loop (a route that I still have to go get!) Shortly after, he invited me along for Day 1 of his Bulgers Project. Our first time meeting in person was an epic, rainy, 23 hour day of bushwhacking and socked in summits. We connected really well, and he extended an open invitation for the rest of the project. I immediately dropped the rest of my plans for the summer and spent the next 2 months peakbagging.
This effort was certainly a challenge, but I can think of several days during the Bulgers list that were harder!
What made the Orizaba Infinity Loop especially memorable was the top-notch team, immersive cultural experience, and gorgeous sunrises.

This is exactly the kind of mountaineering films that I find the most inspiring and awesome to watch - the honesty between Jason and Nathan, their willingness to communicate through emotional struggles, do so on camera, and then continue to include that footage as an integral part of the film has not gone unnoticed! I had a failed attempt on Orizaba back in 2016, and I am more than excited to get back to it :) such a gorgeous peak. Fantastic job to everyone who worked on this!

Melissa, Thank you for noticing the willingness to be raw and vulnerable. We wanted to tell the story of partnership and how entering into these endeavors can lead to tensions even between close friends in unexpected ways, but those things have to be worked through in real time...on the mountain

Sensational. The beauty and humanness that was captured.
These are the types of creative projects that break barriers. What you don’t see is the hours that it takes to get there, the process that you have to fall in love with in order to wake up everyday and say, Yes!

@@wynnhardrathYeah sorry for the late reply. When Nathan was wanting to go ahead of Jason but torn between the choice it reminds me of hiking with my dad. I’ve done longs peak and a few other challenging ones, sometimes he doesn’t make it so I do go ahead but there is always that moment of “is this really what I want to do” when faced with going ahead. There is a lot that goes into that choice. Also the fact that he later was not feeling great which makes it good he chose to stay back. It’s a good reminder that sometimes we have to bite down and stick to the plan rather than take the first opportunity that comes.

Hey Matt! Thank you! All of the time-lapses were shot by Hayden and me. If you can tell, all of the summit time-lapses and crater time-lapses were shot by Hayden as he was posted up at the summit. And then I was posted up at the glacier at 17,000 getting time-lapses, quite the sunrise inversion conditions!

Matt, did you have a favorite shot that they got? was it the time lapse?

If you were to fall while running down, would you be able to stop yourself? Looks super steep

Jason and Nathan carried axes for the technical part of the mountain, and are both two of the most experienced mountaineers I’ve ever met. So if either of them fell on the glacier or the scree they would’ve both self arrested pretty easily I think

On the downhill scree running where the consequences of a fall at a run would have been some lacerations and abrasions for sure. but yes, not so steep that stopping was impossible...just...painful. Was the downhill your favorite part?

Do you plan on climbing the third highest mountains on the other Continents?(Kanchenjunga,Mount Pissis,Mount Shkhara,Mount Stanley/Mawenezi Peak,Trikora Peak/Mount Twynam & Mount Shinn) or just Orizaba?

No no no, the tallest volcano on each continent!!! Its the Volcanic Seven Summits list as documented by the Explorers Club and peak list websites.

For me Pico de Orizaba was insane. It was dark is my best explanation why I climbed it. U definitely overhyped it tho. U literally can drive to BC and hump there and back in less than 24 hours.

oh yeah! it is a great peak and relatively straight forward if you are just going for a single summit. this was much more than that. glad you had fun.
