Nasus W is such a cruel ability. For auto attackers it removes your ability to fight but leaves you with just enough MS to have the illusion of a chance to flee
then you start moving slower and slower and you think "is this dog getting faster? wtf"

Nasus is actually a disgusting champion against a lot of top laners if you don't feed the early game .
in lies the problem.
as a nasus otp last season reaching masters on euw (and apparently top 6 nasus worldwide since there're not many nasus otp players especially in masters+) i believe i have good enough of an expertise to say this "if" is actually 2big of an if. It's practically impossible to not feed early game as nasus against like 90% of toplaners on somewhat high ranks. Your toplane is basically done as soon as enemy toplaner freezes the lane. You practically can't do anything about the freeze as nasus and if u try - well, you're either dead or u've done nothing about the freeze. So realistically not feeding simply leads to you falling 2far behind cuz of enemy freeze. And that's basically as bad as dying early if not worse.
So saying Nasus is a disgusting champion against a lot of toplaners if you don't feed early is kinda pointless, since the only scenario where you don't feed early as Nasus at top would be against Kayle or some troll toplane in current meta (like Maokai lmao). Or that's theoretically possible if you're under diamond rank. Another hope would be your jungler being competent enough to come help you with the freeze, but that rarely happens even in masters, most of the time jungler will just ignore toplane as if it does not exist.
While i got master with 57% wr, my toplane experience as Nasus was so exhausting and not enjoyable that i literally had to start playing him mid.
well there's also a forbidden strategy of going 3 points into E + dorans ring. But while this helps you with your early game and can even help a lot with breaking freeze, you're just falling behind on stacks 2hard. Midgame is Nasus's strongest stage of the game, and if you do what i just mentioned, you're gonna have like 200-240 stacks by min 20, which is basically terrible. So instead of beiing absolute killing machine you're just gonna be below an average champ in midgame (since you have no mobility and neither u do tons of dmg without 400+ stacks by min 20).
And also going for TP/Ghost setup is kinda giving up on your late game as Nasus. If you want to even have a chance of being useful in late game (just a reminder we live in era of every new champ released having at least few movement abilities) it's necessary to go flash+ghost. And yeah, that's making your early game toplane experience as nasus even worse for obvious reasons. Ghost/TP is an option, but u're just gonna get kited in late game that hard you won't feel like playing Nasus ever again.
@@themagetone4184I thought of bringing Nasus mid too, is it viable? I'm only Emerald and no matter what I do, I can rarely enjoy playing Nasus for the same reasons. Too many champs to counter him, too few things that he could do in the early game. To me, at this point he's just essentially a peeling tank spamming W on the enemy ADC.
And AP Nasus, welll.. I'm not sure how to make him effective either. I only go for this build when the lane is literally unplayable or if I'm in the mood for it. You know, Rylai and stuff and then go full tank.
@@AngelLonely447 I mean, i got master with Nasus mid last season, he's been buffed since then as far as i know. I believe he s still viable mid. And he's 100% viable mid in Emerald.
I mean, he's not really countered by many midlaners if you think about it. If you learn your limits well, and you are good at dodging spells - you can survive early laning phase fairly easy without loosing much farm. That's your main goal early, however you obviously give up prio for your jungler and he can't expect you to contest crabs, that's like the biggest problem early.
Midgame Nasus from mid is what even makes him viable. With lucidiy boots / sheen you can contest every drake/Herald, even if you're in number disadvantage. With divine sunderer you can practically 1v3 from mid if you have both flash/ghost up. I also played lethal tempo Nasus mid in order to be somewhat useful on ganks + get that sweet range from max stacks.
Also Nasus mid is good for going all-in on enemy midlaner since most of them do not know Nasus limits and do not expect you to dive him at lvl 8 and things like that.
His biggest counters mid would be : Cassio / Anivia / Ahri / Yone. Other than that i can't really think of a midlaner you would not be able to all in succesfully. I banned anivia in 100% of cases, however currently she's kinda less popular. Akshan is also not fun, but he can't rly bully you as hard as mentioned above casters can. And yone, well, yone is just pretty much unkillable for you due to his kit and it being short lane.
Nasus mid is all about learning his limits and contesting all objectives as soon as you got Lucidity boots/sheen. He really allows to make it extremely hard for enemy team to teamfight succesfully in midgame. In most cases you ofc want to W enemy adc and run him down with Flash/Ghost.
Ap nasus can't work, it's just worse than Divine Sunderer into Gargoyle into sterakk.
Lethal tempo on Nasus doesn't make a lot of sense since you will be spamming Q anyway, not autoattacks
Weaving them between auto attacks adds more damage than you think. Plus, at full stacks you get extra range that extends to your Q

@francescosalvadori9891 yes! A pretty decent amount too. Super easy to stack up and helps a lot for running ppl down. It also gives much more kill pressure early as opposed to Fleet footwork

Hi alois, i started playing riven not a long ago so i want to ask you a question. So basically im able to do fast riven combo with q's resets in practice tool but when i try to do it in the real game i simply cant do that, like i dont really understand why. Maybe i can get some advices from you
targets move. it disrupts your rhythm. I would suggest doing it vs tank bots in practice tool, or get a friend.
Practice it at level 1 on scuttle crabs. Best thing you can do.
The practice tool q combo is different because it's static. Try practicing on the scuttle crab. Also, don't be afraid of doing it slower, as long as you land your basic attacks. You'll get it soon enough. I know exactly what you are going through and one day it will just click and you'll do it without much thought.
Very good tips above, also the more riven games you play. The easier it gets, you can do it

I'm sad I caught this video 2 months late.
Few things I personally like to do that help a lot.
1) I go biscuits approach velocity second instead of resolve.
Approach velocity gives you so much MS for so long, it legit doesn't even matter if they have swifties. Its so good it even feels better vs peeling slows than unflinching does.
Biscuits also is nice for extra mana and mana sustain, and we saw you went oom a few times.
2) I've tested both in practice tool and Triforce outdamages Divine even into bruisers / juggernauts, BUT divine gives a lot more sustain, the spellblade healing even out heals the extra lifesteal you get from the extra Triforce damage. Triforce also better for waveclear, splitting, and sticking. You're totally right that Triforce is better into a team of Squishies.

I'm a teemo main and i feel like some of the general macro for toplane applies for him but a lot more don't and i cannot really find a macro guide for ranged tops but only how to beat them (most people hate playing against em). hello Alois and Community, I have a question. I am jgl main and a friend telled me today, that gaining an full wave is better than help me to get his laner. Is it true or wrong? I ganked top, he was playing Darius against Cho'Gath and then Cho runs into river into top enemy jgl. He could easily come to help as the gank started and I died bcs I don't really know how. I don't think so, that gaining an wave is better, bcs his laner gains the gold from my kill right?
If its early game, if we loses the exp from a full wave, thats pretty rough for him, especially if the enemy lane has tp or if he doesnt end up getting the kill

@@brian187er2depends on the champion, if he is daruis into chogath, itsok to skip first 3 xp minions, u still will be chilling in laning, but if u were the chogath agaibst daruis, and daruis gets lvl 2 first, then runs at u with ghost, pulls u then 1 AA then W then 2 AA (lvl 2 daruis and chogath only has Q)

So it rly depends on "how strong is the champ at lvl 1-3 in laning phase"
The wave is not better, it is safer. Consistent gold and experience is more valuable than risky gold and experience. Unless it is a guaranteed kill, wave is better.
