Great video Eric, those off road head cam shots were awesome, you have some great skills my friend both as an athlete and video producer! Keep these great videos coming, they are the most entertaining triathlon you tubes out there.
I have not (yet). Its about 60kms so out and back can be done with nice coffee mid way. There is a tour de trestles race in September i believe. Trevor and Heather have done a full loop ride around Okanagan lake. Saw the GPS file online. Theyd know more for sure.
Great video, just started following so catching up on some of your recent ones. I don't know IRONMAN's side of the story nor am I a businessman but it seems like an imbalance between how much pros are paid compared to IM profits. Appreciate the vids and thanks!
Do you think there's generally more money and support available from prize money and/or sponsorship opportunities in full Ironman racing vs. 70.3 or is it more just a matter of needing to be at the very top of the game to get access to that regardless of race distance?
Wyatt Kuntz in either discipline it’s extremely top heavy, with maybe 5% of the pro field making really good money, a few getting by, and everyone else slowly burning through their cash reserves, hoping to break through. I do think it’s easier to get some non-endemic sponsors if you’re a proven podium contender at Kona vs 70.3 worlds. It’s just an instantly understandable accolade to flash around.
@@ThatTriathlonLife Well, best of luck staying healthy and getting on those top steps more often 👍😉. I also wanted to say that even though it may not always be in your favour in terms of social media impact or whatever metrics sponsors may use (I'm guessing), I do appreciate following pros like you that don't make every post filled with "@this" and "@that" and a million hashtags in a completely fake way that loses all impact of what they're saying (same goes for age groupers)--I actively try to avoid following those people. Your photos and videos really speak for themselves for your sponsors without beating you over the head with it.
Eric, I noticed in your vids with Paula that you guys consume a lot of carbs. I know you are top level athletes and you eat a pro athletic diet. Just curious if you guys have ever tried cutting out the high glycemics and if you do longer fasted training sessions to improve fat adaption? Personally I wouldn’t suggest going full keto but just low carb doing it during your competition season, but to to in the off season. I am now 54, and almost always exercised and rode my bikes hard, but this last year has been my best in 25 years. Massive weight loss for me, but also really fast recovery after a really intense ride as well as having much less joint inflammation, and general aches and pains. This is after 4 months of decreased performance during the fat adaption process.
I think we’d go down the fasted route, lower glycemic carbs, but a lot of our training and obviously the racing is still at such a high intensity, having the systems for fast burning seems to have a lot of merit to me. Pro 70.3 doesn’t feel much different that Olympic non-draft to me in terms of what your stomach can handle, what energy stores are activated, etc
Eric Lagerstrom Interestingly, my best ride for new PRs was a longer mountain bike ride within a few hours of breaking a 62 hour fast. I credit improved insulin sensitivity, and maintaining metabolic flexibility. Fasted, low carb, keto and sometimes fully carbed up to top up glycogen stores. I wish you guys success and will continue to watch. The fact that you rode gravel on a dark matter and been fat biking on the snow, is really cool.
The gravel section of the video was seriously great, could watch videos like that all day long.
Always feel the urge to head out on an adventure after watching your videos!
Herman Gustafsson 🙌🙌 literally, that’s all I’m going for

Great shots of the Canyon/KVR/trestles...trails works all way to Penticton where i live. Thanks for showcasing it.
Have you ever ridding the whole way from Kelowna to Penticton? I'm really intrigued by doing a super long, possibly multi-day KVR ride..
