You forget “Action”. In ny world there is portrait, landscape and action. These three need totally different settings. Macro is something special. ApertureWise it’s like landscape.

Andrew, I have been shooting photography for 10 years. I have always shot in auto. I have tried to learn how to shoot manually and only became frustrated in the middle of a shoot. I recently watched your aperture hack video before a senior shoot. OH my goodness, I set my camera up the way you said and shot the entire shoot in aperture. My photos turned out so beautiful and I am thankful.

Finally, someone who knows what they are talking about. Let's not forget practicality. Also, older viewfinders (like my Nikon F and F3) had darker viewfinders so high aperture lenses might have bee a plus.
