Seriously! They were a club stable up there with New Order, Depeche Mode, Anything Box, etc. I guess in a way it's good that by not being mainstream that they haven't been ripped off and their music instantly takes people back to the 80's (or 90's during 80's night lol) when they were young, their friends hadn't passed away, and life was simple. They really do need recognition though.
Once their A&R manager at Parlophone left for new ventures, nobody at that label showed support, the nitwit at the company's head asked them to play more guitars, he distrusted electronic music and decided to never release their album. What a shame this lovely blitzy duo was quiet ahead of time and I played their vinyls a lot at the Brussels's DNA.
NEWS: We have a new double album "West View" on vinyl released 14/2022, available to pre-order @ Minimal Wave Records. Also available on Juno Records and Rough Trade Records for UK purchase, and hhv.de for EU purchase, downloads @ mw-viciouspink.bandcamp.com Enjoy, VP. X
Me too!! This is one of the very first vinyl 12 inch single I ever bought. I was totally in love with their sound and look. This is an amazing surprise to see.
Some interesting stories about Vicious Pink. Firstly Steve Strange and Rusty from Visage used to go up to Leeds in the late 70s to watch Brain of VP DJ and the club night was the inspiration for Blitz. Also Dave Ball of Soft Cell was kind of a third member of the band until about 1982 or 83.
“Numbers” in Houston Tx has been open for almost 40 years. They have 80’s Fridays and play this. I was fortunately on the floor when the DJ dropped it.
I want to be your official dancer - when you tour - Leeds born - Asian - 56 years old - and can outdance people half my age - and can be seen dancing in Barnsley (?) Kraftwerk, Y.M.O. and other 80's bands - but also listen mostly to 1970's Dub Reggae.
OMG!!!!! They were ahead of their time People dress like this today in 2023. It's the style ,now . I was like 17 when I heard this song BRAVOOO MON CHERI!!!! ☮️♥️💡🥂🎊👱♀️🇨🇺🇺🇲👍
I went crazy when this started at the club. I immediately jumped to the dance floor. in those days u got 20-30 minutes of one song & all the songs were great to dance too. miss the ol' days tremendously. take me back any day or any time!!!
The French 12" version of this was constantly played on Laser 558 during the summer of 1984. Great memories and such a great record. Alas, it was too good for our charts back then, just eeking it to number 67
I remember Laser 558 and hearing that version which I would have taped. I'm sure I would have heard Charlie Wolf play this plenty as he would have played a lot of euro dance 12"s Wish we had pirates again playing outsider music again. Todays charts really need infiltrating with more "out there" music.
Heard this for the first Time in 1989..I only discovered the name of this duo in 2009 ! This is crazy, I had never forgotten this song...still obsessed and still listening to it.....
My first time seeing them live and not just pictures. I watch this all of the time, along with the pop around video. I think I have around 17 different version of this song. By the way, this is Steven. Love you guys.
Never Knew About This Song Sirius XM Played It Tonight, And I Wanted To Find Out More! Glad Its Here Too! This Shoulda Been Played At Raves! Timeless Sound!
Oh my…this song floods my brain and heart with so many fantastic memories & emotions…I’m so happy to have re-discovered Vicious Pink.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love this song, I never knew there was an English version of it, I always listened to the French version and well I just discovered this version the other day! amazing :)
This fills me with all kinds of emotions that I can't describe. Perhaps nostalgia for a long lost youth. Thanks for fighting to bring this to the world. Love ya, VP!
Wow amazing, the club scene of the late 1980s thru the 1990s, and occasionally at some clubs that have retro nights, the old-school peeps here in sunny Orlando, Cocoa Beach, and Melbourne, Florida area... we always loved Vicious Pink!!! Around 1992 until 1995 when it closed, there was a now legendary club called The Village Underground in Palm Bay, Florida that catered to the industrial, gothic and synthpop crowd back then, and also a few nights played the then "rave/house/trance and techno" era stuff, but my fave nights were the aforementioned ones, and whenever DJ Shred, a gentleman named Dave Milkowski of Satellite Beach, Florida would play the 12" of *"Take Me Now"* , *The dance floor would be packed!!!* 😙🎷🎶🎹❤❤❤😙
Vicious Pink First time I heard your music was on the dance floor of The Twilight Zone in Toronto in 1986. Will be checking out your Instagram. Ty so much.
I had the club mix of this, bought at Record Peddler in Toronto in 1986. I remember it like it was yesterday. Seeing this video posted brings back so many memories! Ty!!
The french 12"" was played at the gay Club 18 Palais Royal in Paris during summer 1984. The hardest to understand what she was singing in her french ! I bought it at Champs Disques (import 12'' on Champs Elysées) : so chic !
Been looking for this song forever. yay! a friend of mine put the extended version on a mix tape back in the 90s. it stuck in my head all these years. this is fabulous!
I cannot believe after all these years - someone had a recording of them performing live! Such an idyllic song from 80s club culture here in the States especially at Starck Club in Dallas, Texas. Thank you so much for posting.
I remember being 5 years old jamming to this in a house-juke cassette. I can't believe I hear it when I'm 29, and it sounds exactly as I remembered it. No Mandela effect with this
@ViciousPink thanks for the music and memories!❤️ This Single and the album remind me of High School and listening to this for hours. Loved it then and still love it today.🎼-GSH
I had like four different versions of the 12", the French Xxx-tended with green cover 12", some other 12" I sold on Ebay in 94 or 95, and the Club mix (which I kept), the album (some weird Canadian label; never released in the USA) and the 7" pic disc for Fetish... which of course I kept. Thanks for posting. Wish they'd have done the vid with club mix, or with Blue. This version was always slightly fruity and didn't touch the badness of the DJ Master Mix or Blue, lol :)
Wogan! Vicious Pink are interesting because they were such a big part of one of my favourite ever albums, the decade defining "Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret". The enormous success of that must have meant VP were courted by record companies. This is my favourite mix/version of the song. Wogan was very high profile. Only Aspel was as prolific. It would be interesting to see how the single fared in the charts the following week. A glorious performance- but I must check on my memory, as I seem to remember this version was a 1985 remixed re-release, but elsewhere in the comments I see the year as 1984.
Thanks Just Me. We had great fun working on Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret, and such fond memories, of those times, which included live shows, VP opening for SC and performing live with them, actually quite a while before going to NYC to record Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret. We will be going to some Soft Cell UK shows in November. July 1984 was the UK release date, this mix was the first, along with the 12" French/English version, both were separate recordings done at the same recording session in September 1983. Best wishes VP X.
OMG!!! so freaking talented and the guy with just a electronic piano with built in beats. you can never be on their level. now with state of the art beats.
Wow great! I just discovered this video….I can remember Vicious Pink with Marc Almond, Am I Right? And the singer is a very beautiful woman, according to me she was a model ?
Looks like nightly chat-show Wogan, from the set. Performers like this never fared well with the blue-rinse brigade. I can picture them now, staring blankly and wondering what the heck they were watching. Note the dynamic 'camera sweep behind geometric prop' and video-effect overload. Classic!
It definitely was Wogan, this had a very marked impression on me as a 14 year old boy! Can also remember a demo of the Emulator sampler with a demo band on Wogan, you can imagine how weird that was in front of the old grannies!

Always remember this 80s song. Awesome synth pop
The fact that they're still hearting comments makes this even better
Agreed, it's really nice to see them!
As Vicious in '24 as it was when I first heard it in '87! 🤎
Vicious Pink deserved bigger success. I’ve always adored them.
