This teaching method has been the most effective for me. Having the camera on screen rather than the host and seeing how to interact with the settings on the display while showing the buttons pressed, is extremely informative.
I have to let you know that I’m a film student and have been trying to understand these three settings for over a year now, and it wasn’t until this video that I felt like I understood the settings and how to use them. Thank you *so, so* much. This video made it simple and you actually _showed_ me what to do and how it all works, vs. only telling me. This is hands down the best tutorial on shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. You’re the best! I’m super excited now, since I feel like I understand this 😄
Shit.. over a year 😸. I just got mine and im hella confused 😹. I took random shots and they looked decent making me feellike I was a pro, but I thought Im just pulling crap outta my ass right now, and better watch videos to understand things better and correctly set the settings before I screw something up 😹
I'm just now taking the plunge into manual mode after using auto for many, many years. I really appreciate your explanation and plan to revisit often to watch this until your training sinks into this thick skull of mine. I've subscribed, so hope to get lots of training. Thank you bunches!
Why is it I watched 30 videos all explaining the same thing didn't get it. Watch your video once and understand it so much better excellent video for beginners.
It has been 35 years since I've held a camera- the transition from film to digital is a challenge - thank you for helping me to understand the layout of my first DSLR and how it relates to the old SLR technology.
I am amazed how wonderfully simple you made all of this. I have literally had my camera for a little under a month. SO i know how much it cost....BRAVO!
This tutorial was amazing on explaining the difference between the Aperture, shutter speed and ISO. The use of real time movements between settings and photo changing images was informative and on point. thank you I really needed this video.
I have searched the internet for someone who could explain in a way i could understand and no one could, untill this video! Amazing! Than you BIG TIME! I didn´t know my camera could do all of that! //Nina from Sweden
This tutorial taught me so much in a short 15 minutes. I'm always so confused as to what is happening with the shutter speed and how to fix it. Thank you so much for this video! A+
This is how supposedly the sharer must explain. Not an ego. The way result of shots. Remember no well verse photographer would watch or search in youtube regarding photography but mostly the beginners. This is the best input ever. Step step. Excellent.
I know this video is from so many years ago, but ive been struggling to understand these settings for a while now. But its all explained beautifully and simply here. Finally feel like I know what to do in manual mode now. Thank you so much!
This video makes the light bulb go on a couple minutes in. LOL. Volume is a little low but the content is gold. Finally, I get it and understand it and can apply it. Very well done my man.
DK - so sorry I missed this excellent question. I honestly do shoot on Manual most of the time. It is comfortable for me in all but the most challenging situations (bright sun in one direction and shade in another) . I suggest you try AV mode. That lets you control your aperture which is what most people care about most of the time and the camera changes the shutter speed. That is my fall back mode.
I've never had 'exposure' explained in such an understandable & accurate way by anyone as well as you have in this vid. Thanku so much. It's Aug 2018 & I'm so glad I came across this vid.
I'm doing higher photography at school and you can get away with using auto everything but I just got my own camera (on budget - eos 1300D) so of course, I want to be able to use it manually. I was finding it really difficult to understand how exposure works and how changing one thing mean you have to adjust another, but it's much much clearer now. Thank you!
I really liked this video. Straight forward and professional and great attention to detail but with clear explanations and with no posturing or big man on camera attitude. Finally I know what ISO means. I might not be the brightest light on the tree but I learned something today. No wonder he has so many subscribers.
The golden hour - just after sunrise and just before and then directly after sunset. Lovely soft light from all directions right after sunset (unless it is cloudy)
Thank you! So nice to find a series with a good, interactive teacher (with a pleasant voice and body language) and not just a good photographer or techie. And with video making/editing skills! All around applause, sir.
im on the first 4 mins and a half and already assimilated what i couldn't in several other videos.thank you, nice and simple.loved it.basics of iso, shutter speed and aperture now engraved in my fragile memory.cheers for the video
Thank you very much for the tips. I haven't used my Canon EOS 60D model and several years. I didn't know very much about ISO or aperture but watching your video I was able to learn some new things. If there's any way you can point me to some more videos you did with the camera particularly the Canon EOS 60D, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time. And I subscribed

WOW...of all of the videos I have watched this is probably one of the best to learn manual mode! I have always been puzzled to know how to compare what I think is the best setting and how to tell if the camera thinks it is not right. Thank you so much! Anyone going to manual mode should watch this video. Wish I could give it 2 thumbs up.
Wow, this video has been a tremendous learning experience. The information packed (great) script combined with spot-on visuals made this a pretty painless intro to a camera and techniques. Thanks.
Thanks for your great video. Nicely and thoroughly explained. I've been trying to understand this ISO, A, & S business for the last couple of days and this really helps.
Just wanted to say thanks for such an in depth video. I'm only JUST learning how to operate my camera and your the first person I've come across that actually took the time to demonstrate how to change these settings. I really appreciate it. Thanks!!
I have been trying to learn these three things for 2 yrs. now and it seems so confusing to me until you explained it simply enough even I could understand. I was frustrated and just stayed on auto. I did not know to look at the settings in Aplus setting first and go from there. That will help so much so I at least have a clue of where to start from. Thank you so much. I am looking forward to more of your tutorials.
Excellent video, I've had my Canon T6 for a while now, and I'm determined to get off Auto and the P setting, but when I'm out and about I tend to forget stuff and panick, and just use those two settings, concentrating instead on composure, I wonder how many other people are the same, I have to try harder!
Thank You so much. I am currently taking an non-major photography class in my university. However, when the professor explain all this to us he didn't used a camera to explain step by step, so I am kinda confuse on what he was talking about. Now, after I watched your video, all make a lot more sense. Thanks.
Great video! Never understood anyone explaining these things no matter how many videos I've watched, you've done it in one go! Thank you, can't wait to try all these settings out
I want to say thank you for all your videos. I am new to DsLR and I'm learning a lot with your tutorials. I recently purchased the T5i. When I'm in Manual, I set up my exposure and at times I cannot take the picture. I press the shutter but it would not take it. The exposure simulation icon keeps blinking. I have to exit and look through the view finder to take the picture. Why is this?
outstanding tutorial. I recently purchased a canon 80D, with being new to photography / videography, the learning curve is beyond measure; this tutorial was highly informative.
Great video! I have been leaning on Av and Tv Modes but with your explanation of priorities between ISO and Shutter Speed I understand my T7i so much better than I did. Thank you! I shoot cars for $$ and I have a feeling I am going to get some epic shots in M mode today. 👍
I just watched this and this video was made 6 years ago... Yet it still to date explains everything in clear informative detail. Thank you so much for this video I really understand manual mode now.
I watched a couple videos and read multiple guides about this. Your video helped so much and explained so much more, and it finally all makes some sort of sense to me. Thank you!!
Honestly speaking, out of over 30 videos I’ve watched about shooting in manual mode, this video explained everything I wanted and needed to know by just watching it once! Thanks for this!
Trust me, I love nature and I love Photography but the fact that I was never able to capture it right made me so frustrated. Your video is so clear and simple that it solved all those mysteries for me. Thank you so much
Thank you!!.. Used to shoot photography but was thrown from a car in an accident.. I have to relearn almost everything again, even basics.. Thank you for the simplicity in explaining, and taking the time to make a great and helpful video.
This is a really useful video! I just ordered a Canon EOS Rebel T6 , and I didn’t really know much about manual settings . And you gave a lot of detail and description . Thanks a lot! :)
Thank you so much! This is an incredible video, I've just purchased myself a dslr, but didnt really understand it all, but now i do!! just gotta get it stuck in my head! :) thanks!
I watched a bunch of videos on this topic and was very confused still. This video helped me a lot though and I think I got it! Thank you for explaining so well
I am a beginner and I agree with Curtis' comment. I have explored different tutorial videos and this video, by far, was the most helpful. I needed a simple, step by step explanation regarding metering and exposure. So helpful! Thank you so much.
This explanation made perfect sense. I didn’t even know you could adjust the settings so quickly and get to see the how the picture changes! We have the same camera model so it was even easier to learn! Thank you bud! 🙏
Fantastic! Thank you for a wonderful guide with real time examples. This has helped 'me' on the path to being able to take pictures, not just letting the camera take them.
You are just a genius I was so confused because am just a beginner and I was shooting under exposed photos no matter how hard I regulate the three. But I didn’t even finish watching this 8years ago video and it just solved my problem 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🔥
ok - watched both. I think NG is using just the kit lens with her 60D. You can get great results with the T4i and a 40mm f/2.8 or the kit lens but the kit lens will need more light in the room. There are lighting options too for $100-$200 that you might consider. Too bad there is no way to turn off the Nikon's auto focus while filming. You could try putting it further away and then zooming some so you fill more of the frame, it should get less confused then.

What happens when the values are larger vs smaller. Great video!
Sometimes i see photographers use the shutter to make everything blurry or looks like a ghost and there's only one abject that isn't can make a video about that ? It would be great for beginners like me. Also I don't know what they actually call it so I hope i gave you the right information
Slow the shutter speed, so the light and movement have more time to enter the lens.
This video was so helpful! I was a bit confused on what settings to use, and how to adjust them to your liking. This video cleared up the majority of that confusion. Now, time to go practice. Thanks so much for this!
This is a good video but I HATE it when they're not recorded with a high enough volume!!!
So happy I found this video. It really made me understand why my pics were blurry n dark or way too light. Especially about the lense size
Poor audio. Good vid
sounds fine to me
Same had to pick up the sound to max
I would say this is ok audio. If this is poor audio to you I am worried on what good audio quality is
What kind of setting would you recommend for recording a 10" flame from 10' away?
You need to get a Blue yeti Mic..Your sound is crap.. I like what your saying buts its hard to listen
This video was made over 3 years ago - I have since invested :)
