The idea of the clear spoke discs was to paint the wheel inset black(or dark gray), highlight the spokes themselves in silver and leave the rest of the disc clear. Then the silver spokes would show against the dark wheel, and the holes would also be visible.
A friend of mine lent me a documentary about Formula One in the mid 50s. It told the story of how many (very many) drivers were killed driving those cars. Most of them wore street shoes, a button shirt, maybe a wool sweater, goggles, gloves and a "helmet". Most of them refused to wear seat belts.
Just for the heck of it I googled Alfa Romeo Alfetta 150 and couldn't believe all the images, mostly of the actual car and some models. You're build is right in line with the actual car. Beautiful work, I thought the wheels turned out great.
Lovely result. I've got this kit, and it's companion, the Talbot Lago. These were originally produced by Merit in the 1950s, as part of a range of Grand Prix cars of the era. I built several in the 1960s. Good to see you making kits of cars other than pick ups and muscle cars. How about having a go at a 1/12th. Scale Italeri Bugatti?
That turned out very nice Matt! I have the same kit, but in a combo pack it also has the Talbot of the same year. The kit is a Merrit boxing. Looking forward to building both…some day…LOL!
This is an interesting kit. Atlantis reboxed it with another car of the same era. I have the two car set. The spokes can be left off as some of the cars i saw when i researched didnt have spoke wheels.
This kit was tooled for Merit in the 1950s, so it's around 70 years old! I'm working on mine now. I'm going to give the decals a coat of gloss clear, too, to prevent breaking up.
Great job it is a nice build. I love this old unique kits. I just got an old 1:32 scale Airfix Bugatti type 35B from a local antique store. Cannot wait to start building it. Thanks for sharing the video.
Cool build. I have both SMER kits, the Alfa Romeo and the French Talbot Lago. I also have metal spoke wheel kits, after market from a guy out here in SoCal. I sent you pictures of both cars mocked up and the spoke wheel kits about a month and a half ago.
Matt, I love your show and watch it all the time. I wanted to see if you have a 1/25 4x4 transfer case that I could either get or buy from you for a project that I'm working on thanks Tony

I've had that same kit in my stash for about 35 years now. You have inspired me to now make it with your excellent build.
This is a cool build!! Back when racing was real racing! Looks fantastic!!
Repop of the ancient Merit kit. Turned out great!
Gee Matt, that old Merit Tool was made long before you ever became a "squirt". Good to see you Gloo'n some more history.

The slide shows at the end are always a nice touch
Amazing result from such a relatively basic kit

Stunning build Matt!!! This Alfa really stands out with the Italian Red paint. The wheels also came out great.
That's a wicked little car. I have an old Cox 1/24 scale BRM that's very similar.
Nice build Matthew.

Great job with that Matthew. Love what you did with the spoked wheels. According to Scalemates that kit dates to 195X?
Very nicely done on your Alfa Romeo Matt! That engine detail is incredible!
Along with the old Monogram Indy roadster, simple fun that looks good on the shelf.
You smashed that Matthew, I've got a 1/32 slot car I'm building of that. Thanks for posting

Looks nice, I've never built an open wheel racecar.
Enzo Ferrari's first race car was am Alfa Romeo Enzo was a mechanic for Alfa Romeo
Nice build! I built this same kit, but from MisterCraft. You have also the 1949 Talbot Lago T26C, also from Smer and MisterCraft.
Paint the clear parts silver then try black wash on them
Cute little kit! Wish it was 1/20. I do F1 in 1/20 or 1/12. 1/24 is the scale I do for Le Mans type cars.
Cool as always.
