You earned yourself a subscriber! Beautiful video, it reminds me of my childhood when we were going very often to Mavrovo both in winter and in the summer for a picnic. I had a close encounter with a bear near the stadium at 4 years old🤣 Btw some fun facts about this lake are that the water also comes artificially from a very long way, it is collected from hundreds of springs from the Shar Planina mountain above the Polog Valley (above Tetovo and Gostivar) and it is brought by pipes to Mavrovo, then it goes through pipes to the hydropower plants and goes into the Vardar River near its spring at Vrutok. Beatufil engineering, but it has done a lot of damage to the Polog valley, hundreds of wild rivers were destroyed and it made the valley drier, so the socialist government of Yugoslavia built an artificial irrigation system from the Vardar river to replace the rivers. So the water basically is put to work and brought back where it was.
Thank you very much, welcome aboard! Thanks for the information about the lake and its history, I didn't know that the water was brought in like that - sounds like a hell of a project! That bear story sounds crazy, not much you can do when you're 4 years old. I guess your parents were there to scare it away. What is the bear population like out there in the mountains? Aggressive or do they tend to stay away from populated areas? Lovely area for a picnic, bet it looks completely different in the winter time?
Another incredible video! This is peak Matt Whiting. The drone work, the hiking views, the music, the off the beaten path discoveries. Great work! ❤🇲🇰❤🇲🇰
What a country Matt , it’s been a wonderful road trip and a real gem such a big world and people need to visit these countries of the beaten track , we flew home last night from Tirana and enjoyed the city , we will return and see more of the country cheers ,
Amazing place! Glad I hired a car and was able to see so many incredible places hidden away in the mountains. Glad you enjoyed Tirana, did you see the Pyramid?
Hi Matt It is Wednesday and for some reason I didn’t see this earlier in the week. I did however notice the pics on instagram. How are you? All good here, a mixture of some sunny and partly cloudy days. I do love autumn. Was visited by an Australian friend on Monday and a bestie from New Zealand arrived this morning for a visit which will include the visit to Budapest As regards this latest video…wow wow wow.. Never ending magical scenery, and NO people anywhere. Perhaps one day I shall traverse the borders by car and head down to Macedonia. I’m guessing if I entered coordinates on Maps Id be surprised at just how linearly close I am. Sending you best wishes for the remainder of this week Until next time Zoltán
Good morning Zoltán, I'm all good thanks, sounds like you are in for a busy week! I hope the trip to Budapest is enjoyable, and the weather is kind to you. Nice catching up with old buddies. Yes I guess it's not a million miles from you, a drive through Montenegro and Albania and you're there! Sounds like a spectacular road trip!! It did also surprised me how quiet the area was, I bet in years to come the church will have an entrance fee and they'll be busloads of people visiting each day - when it's accessible of course. Enjoy the rest of your week!
