Was at their New Years Eve Concert here on Chas. WV ? yrs ago, the Lord was there and indescribable Martin was on the floor on his knees playing, was over several of us went to Shoneys Restaurant to eat & they came too & the shouting & praising the Lord picked back up where it left off at the concert, the patrons that were there had no clue what was going on except a handful that joined in ..
The Inspirations-One of the most overlooked, underrated, and BEST groups, of all time! Michael T. Holcomb could definitely crank out some unbelievably low Bass notes. However, because of not wanting to kowtow to the more modern contemporary gospel music of that time period, they were often passed over by a lot of people, in favor of The Cathedrals, The Kingsmen Quartet, Gold City, and other groups, that trended somewhat towards a more "Modern" sound. Still, though, the Inspirations are together, although there have definitely been some line up changes over the years.
Realistically, without vocal fry, with a strong mic, and truly be heard, I think at his best he could do maybe a B or B flat. What makes his VOICE deceptively lower is before he goes into vocal fry, His true chest voice is strong down to a C/C#-- then It goes to mix fry down to a A flat, then complete 100# fry from there to a low c# or low d!!! But I don't know where they get this GO or A1 that I've heard. He an Ray Reese are about a tie! Mike is stronger and Ray is a little lower. Both good enuf for their groups though!
May I share this with you, if you don't mind? The Bible says in Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. I hope you already know God for yourself, but if you don't know Him you can know Him today. Jesus suffered, bled and died to pay for your sins and mine, out of love for us! Salvation is in faith, but one must first realize that they are a lost sinner and will die and burn in hell for all eternity without Christ. Once we see ourselves, all one needs to do is repent of their sins, and put their faith in God: believe with all their heart that He will forgive every sin. And ask Him to save their soul from hell with all faith and all sincerity! Believe in God and He will save you today. If you have never gone to God and repented of your sins and put your faith in Him, now is the time my friend.
Holcomb couldn't even sing a Db2 in full voice. This clown is nearly as bad as the worst abuser of vocal fry in history, Timmy Storms. What is so difficult about singing within your range? If you can't sing bass, don't try to sing that part in a quartet.
Psalm 98:4 - Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. The Inspirations might not be the best gospel group, but by golly they sure do know how to make a joyful noise unto the Lord!! That's what counts, not that Mike Holcomb can't sing that low note you are complaining about.
This song gave the bass a little of the spot light 👍... They all did a good job. (Praise God)

I'm sure Jeffrey Harris can go much lower. Let me know when your next album drops, Jeff.
I've never heard Mike hit a solid low note on the ending of a song. He's always either shaky or growling. Oh well...
yea, well, i'd still love to be able to sing bass like him, shaky or not! :)
Could you even come close Jeffery Harris????
We like the way he sings it better than we like the way you don't sing it...
I do not want to subscribe
WElllllll, then, Don't!
Laura Welch Well, by all means don't do it then!
Laura Welch

And what professional quartet do you sing bass for?
