The defense will be very thin until the trade deadline at least, unless there's a surprise move. I hope the forwards can stack up the goals, because they might have to.

With Broberg and Holloway I think the Oilers did the right thing caused by the salary cap, if there were not tight on the cap I would of liked to see them keep both but being tight on cap space they did what they had to. No way is Broberg at his point in his career worth what the Blues offered.

I might be one of the few people who feel the team is better. Everyone has complained about Cici for a couple years, and now that he's gone they all act like we've lost our #1 D-man. Podkolzin is a really good player that (IMO) will make more of an impact than Dylan. This will be a contract year for Ty Emberson, so expect some great play from him!

Agree with you 100%. Holloway and Broberg needed a raise and they deserve a bit but not what they got. Both are young and unproven this far. Oil wanna win the cup now, not in the future. Good luck to them but the oil are solid in the lineup right now and I think even better like you said, especially with the addition Of Arvidsson ans Skinner.

    • @OldWolf1933

Agreed, they're better, better than last season for sure and will prove it this upcoming season. Dylan didn't make much impact here, and won't make much impact in St. Louis either. Broberg can play solid, as he showed during the playoff run, but is he consistent enough?

I agree that the left side of the defense needs some depth added especially because of the Broberg offer sheet. Its too bad all this transpired & imo was all avoidable but the priorities of management & their short term thinking & planning got exposed imo. None the less we move on. Hope the Oilers don't overspend too much on Draisaityl & Bouchard because then not only all the Toronto fans but all the other Oiler haters are going to be trolling all those so called Oiler fans who mocked Toronto for locking up so much cap space on their core four. Karma again.😢

There still could be a move coming to shore up the D, an example is a guy like Rasmus Anderson, who has 2 years left at about $4.5 mil. the Oilers now have $4.5 to spend so if he was available would you rather spend it on Broberg or a guy similar to Andersson?

    • @jonbenjisnomore7935
      @jonbenjisnomore7935 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@SirManfly good point & considering just how vulnerable & weak our right side depth has been & probably still is Anderson would be a steal at that price. Yet I can't see Craig Conroy going out of his way to move him right now & especially to the Oilers, Anderson is the one asset that Calgary has left that will cost teams more around trade deadline time than right now. Imo it's a pipe dream But a good one.

Anderson is not the guy to mesh with Nurse. Need someone who is closer to to Larrson's style ie strong agaist zone entry with a decent pass to allow a

I see no need to panic but yes; that D, especially the left D, does need some work. It's the start of the year and not the end so there's lots of time to try out a few things but the front office does need to keep their radar tuned for possible steals and pick-ups.
I don't have too many concerns about the F group and the Gs should be OK but there are a couple of decent UFAs still out there that I wouldn't be opposed to taking a look at... ie Lankinen.

I'm quite glad both guys are gone. Broberg, and Holloway. Namely, for the money. Broberg at $4.6M is absolutely idiotic, and Holloway at $2.2M, isn't too far from it. Neither has earned a pay day, least of all, Broberg.
Holloway at least showed signs of improvement, and I think people look at Broberg through rose-tinted glasses or something, because he was far from a $2M defenseman, much less, $4.6M.
Obviously they wanted to cash out for short term gains, and that's their business. Doesn't mean the team has to tolerate it. Holloway's media availability, he almost looked like he regretted it, and if he doesn't yet, he will.
STL is years out from being any type of contender, and by the time they are, either of these guys will likely have been moved, signed elsewhere as a UFAs, or been long-since sent back to the minors.
    Good riddance to them both.

Holloway apparently didn't want to sign an offer sheet but when you're young and you have your agent whispering in your ear about how they'll "probably match" then I can see why he did it but he looked disappointed because I don't believe he wanted to leave the Oilers!

I think they made the right choice for those offer sheets. It would have been an overplay if we did, and also would have killed our cap space situation. To add to that, we got a good selection for fourth line and 2nd/ 3rd pairing with emberson. As for the PTO, I’m thinking Dermott would be a great fit. Especially as he played with McDavid and Brown under knoblauchs coaching. Maybe we find some more chemistry in that.

I’m not sure either player will be worth the salary they signed, and the required qualifying offers in 2026. I feel so sorry for Oilers fans & the organisation now that Stan Bowman is GM. Yeah, he won three Cups with the Blackhawks (the first of which rightly belongs to Dale Tallon) but his 'Win Now' mentality depleted Chicago's prospect pool to the point of spending at least a decade plus as a bottom-dwelling team. If you don't capture the Cup for McJesus & Co in the 2025 postseason, I fear for the Oilers in subsequent years. Getting Bowman(ed) means sacrificing the future for the now. If Bowman isn't gifted a championship team by the previous GM, the Oilers will be chasing the Cup with an ever decreasing prospect pool. It's gonna get more difficult with each successive season.

This team is old. Lists to starboard on right defense. Needs at least two more d-men. A shutdown guy and a good puck mover like Broberg was. Player from San Jose and unknown quantity. Still can't understand why Vancouver would trade a player to us. A mystery wrapped in an enigma. How are you going to add two b d-men? What do you have to offer in a trade? Draft picks? Who would you take off the current roster? Defense is weaker, which means the team is weaker. You win with good defense. Can't see how Bowman is going to solve the problem. Didn't make many, if any, good trades when he was with the Hawks. Mainly salary dump things, which might be why Ceci is gone. Offer sheet issue is not all his fault though. Began long ago. Could have signed them earlier in the year. Whose fault is it that they didn't do it? Holland? Jackson? Jackson is the CEO, so he plays a big part in it. Miss Ken Holland. He didn't go to Notre Dame like Bowman. Holland a true hockey guy. A goalie who played a few games in the NHL. Went into scouting. Endless plane trips to various place to take a look at a player. Hotel rooms for the weary. Worked his way up. Learned the game inside out. Not so with Bowman. Bowman on the finance side of things. That's how he started with the Hawks. I think Bowman got a boost due to the pedigree of his name. His father Scotty won a few Cups with Montreal. Bowman thought it was more important to win a Cup than report a sexual assault to the police. Bowman has his ring. The victim of the assault will carry the pain of that memory around with him for the rest of his life. But who said life is fair? Did Ken Holland retire? Haven't heard anything about him.

And Bouchard wanted to sign a bigger deal last year and they gave him a one year deal and now he puts up over 80 points so you can be he isn't signing for less than Nurse. Then you have McD the following year and you gotta figure he will want at least 1m but prob 2-3m more than Draisaitl. That's the problem with being a top heavy team is that the top guys eat up all the money. It can work and Chicaco showed that during their cup runs but you gotta find the right guys to fit in.
