First off, thanks for the review, Rob! I am glad that Heidelberger, the german publisher of Dungeon Saga, came to the same conclusion as you and released the game only as a Deluxe version which already contains the Adventurer's Companion.
Even with its faults the Adventurer's Companion is one of the greatest things with Dungeon Saga. I still haven't gotten my copy to the table, but looking forward to do doing so. I'm hoping the invisible overlord cards present a decent challenge as I'd love to actually co-op it instead of having to operate the dungeon against everyone like in other games.
+robert oren That's good to hear. Maybe a bit of executive over riding decision making may be in order in some strange cases. I could handle that if it seemed too out of place to the situation on the board. Back in the day when I was a lot younger and my friend and I played Hero Quest we played with the heroes split and me playing out the overlord as well. I was more than fine with making monsters swing at me if it was in their own best interest.

While I still consider Descent 2.0 to be the reigning king of the campaign based dungeon crawl board games, Dungeon Saga is a solid, if not great, alternative to FFG's seminal product. Imperial Assault has somewhat replaced Descent for my group over the last couple of months so I suspect we'll be bringing Dungeon Saga to the table in the future to scratch our fantasy itch. I really dig the game and consider the Adventurer's Companion a must own if you're serious about getting into the game on any serious level. I picked up The core game and the Adventurer's Companion on recommendation from this review and I don't regret it one bit. It really is an excellent system that any fan on dungeon crawling should check out.
Rob is more than the miniature painting guy. Check out his channel. I couldn't care less about painting minis. The Oren family is a fun group who produce reviews, Q&A's, and playthroughs. His kids (young adults) participate in many of the videos. Look forward to March when Rob is reviewing Myth 2.0. I want to buy Myth but the original rules are notorious. Thanks Oren family.

I love the book, sadly I have the misprinted hardback from kick starter, it turns D's dkh into a board game RPG. With the boxset, adv book and expansions I can see hrs of fun ahead
+robert oren That sucks to hear, especially considering they produced such a good game. I hate when companies who make a great product shoot themselves in the foot through poor quality or customer support.
Thanks for the review. My take on the Adventurer's Companion is less positive than yours, by far. Indeed, I think it's very disappointing, full or rough edges and simply unfinished. In my opinion there are gaps and broken rules everywhere. You cannot create main the characters of the game or the expansions following the rules of the AC, which makes me conceive the AC as a broken system. Playing against the invisible (AI) overlord is disappointing: there are too many decisions the heroes need to make on behalf of the Overlord as rules don't cover all the cases. Also, minions sometimes tend to behave very inconsistently, like changing their mind from turn to turn. There are no rules in Uncharted dungeons to adapt the difficulty to heroes of different levels, so the system only works with early levels. The shooting advance system is broken, and the rules in the book don't match the rules in the cards... I guess it's a matter of tastes and opinions, but after PLAYING uncharted dungeons or invisible overlord my experience was very negative. When reading the rules you don't realise of the problems that are later unfold when playing.
Just a thought, do you think the thinking was to let people buy this, some furniture and doors and a D&D tiles and bash on without buying the base box?
The games looks promising overall as a dumbed-down D&D game that is much easier to play. But this should have been part of the base game (as you say), which together with this become way too expensive for what you get, which amounts to rules, cards, and tiles. The minis are second rate (good art design, poor quality from what I can tell; I would not want to paint them at least).
