Because of your videos, I bought 2 large pots for my back garden and added 2 boxwoods to eventually make topiaries. So much of my garden is perennial and most visible in summer so I wanted to add a little life for the winter months. I plan to add a couple of more further to the bottom of the hill. Thanks for great ideas from your beautiful garden!
Linda you are delightful. I wish you were able to post a video every day. I’ve gone topiary crazy. I lost so many plants so I replacing dead plants with topiaries. I’m having so much fun shopping for the perfect plants. Thank you so much for inspiring us all to branch out. Love you sweet lady. Hugs from Texas
Hi Linda what a great video today. But watching the queen of topiary. Show us how to do it. And you gave some great advice. And such a inspiring video. I love doing topiary. So beautiful and a beautiful container. Looks so well together.
Wouldn’t have thought about using a Euonymus for the bonsai look but it looks fantastic! I like the traditional bonsai soil covering of moss around the raised root ball.
“Semi-torturing this root ball” 😂😂😂 You definitely made me feel better about also doing this to some of my plants in the past. And actually they all were just fine in the end! Plants (a lot of them) are so resilient, and root bound isn’t good anyway.
Very nice! Just last night I poodled 2 plants as easy as ABC because of the confidence you gave me. Saved myself lots of money too. Now I'll go find some more variety of plants.
Love it! I have a galvanized metal container that I was wondering how to plant up. This just sparked some great ideas. Love the metal table, I need one of those!
That turned so beautiful!!! I go to Lowes a lot more now too because of you Linda. I was so excited to find a green mountain boxwood here in Orange County California. I also spotted a misshapen cypress in the clearance section and aimed for a double ball topiary. You have inspired me so much. I never get tired of watching your videos. I watch them over and over and over. Thank you!!!
Love this! I did this to a gardenia that got bushy at the bottom...I trimmed much of the lower leaves and thinned it out and the form turned out lovely! Sadly it looks like said gardenia did not make it through the Winter Storm that hit us in Texas. I haven’t trimmed too much in hopes it would come back from the bottom so I could start again.
I was so excited to use my Goodwill cachepot and do this exact project for a center piece on my patio. It was a fun, therapeutic project and I absolutely love it! Thank you so much for all your inspiration.
I have just recently discovered your topiary videos! I'm obsessed! I love them, and now I have a new gardening goal. I started several rosemary cuttings yesterday and am chomping at the bit to go thrifting for caststone and terracotta pots to put my topiary in. Also looking for affordable plants like you have suggested. Its the perfect time of year!
Probably not your style or taste but I could imagine a darling little fairy garden under the tree. (With a swing from the branches you created 😊💕) You are a very talented lady! Thanks for sharing. I'm inspired to try this.
Thank you Linda! I’m hoping to try my hand at my first topiary this weekend so this was very timely! I have a rosemary that has a great form and I thought I would practice topiary on it. Have a beautiful day!
Linda!!!! How have I failed to see this video before today?? You are speaking my language right now. Juniper is also a great plant for this technique. The counter intuitive thing is that root treatment,it feels like you are killing the plant, but no,simply giving it room to spread out. And remove any downward pointing leaves or branches,as a tree-form always looks up. Very impressive job,Linda! This made my day!!😊😊
Looks fabulous, love it. It looks great with the potting mix mounding up to the stem of the plant, as it would sit on a hill. Very well done. Might go out today and do some plant searching at the garden centre.
I Linda Vater’d my topiaries up a pot (which incidentally included a Euonymus I rooted from the garden) in the beautiful weather we’re having in Indy on my screened-in porch. Life is good! 🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴
Thank you, I have always liked those at the nurseries I think I can manage to do one now. We live where it gets cold in the Winter, would we be wise to bring it in the garage when it gets cold since it is in a container?
Awesome...Your changing my outlook on gardening. I’m self taught and get excited every year for a new season. Can I take an azalea shrub and make a topiary? What do you think in a pot. I want more pots in my garden as focal points. I have a couple concrete old urns but they are clogged, what to do with those, I’m scared to plant in them because no drainage. Thanks
Hi There!! Loving this video! I didn’t realize one could trim back to the root ball so much! Good to know. Might I ask where you purchased those pruners? Thank You.
I saved 8 plant's that had so many roots wrapped around the poor plants. I paid .50 cents a plant, even though they have bloomed they will all grow nice and be beautiful next year.
You created something so beautiful for that elegant planter.
I must have a LOT of child in me because I’m obsessed with your topiaries. 😍 Loved the lesson.
I’m rewatching your videos…You have taught me a lot ❣️Thank you ❤️

That’s just BEAUTIFUL!!! yep....gonna steal this planting idea for my patio!!! ❤️ it is meant as a true expression of flattery!! I Promise!!🤞🤞
I love how you show us how to take different plants and transform them into topiaries. This plant was perfect for your beautiful container!! ❤️
I bought a small boxwood and am creating a topiary from it. I never would’ve tried it, if I hadn’t been inspired by you. Thanks!
Love it! Love the container too!
Did the container have a draining hole? I can’t remember if it did. Thrift buying containers is fun but I worry about draining issues.
"The plant speaks to the child inside us" , linda, this is very well said and illustrated. Thank you, enjoyed every second of the tutorial.

I love how the shape you created mirrors the shape of the pot. I’ve never been a fan of euonymus but you may have changed my mind.

I was thinking, "Ohhh, I don't know if that is the right pot for that." It was! Beautiful!
Very nice!

Linda, I'm trying this on the weekend so fabulous 😍😍 love the way you say 'you guys' 💞💖 so sweet
It looks like a bonsai, you are a bonsai master! looking so cute today, Linda.
I love using bread knives among my garden tools. I use it for root pruning and to saw a plant to free it from a pot with a narrow top.
Now you made it look easy so I will have to try it! Thanks from Michigan. ☺️
Linda I so much love your vids. I'M ADDICTED with your style of gardening lol lol. TFS

Made the case for pruning AFTER potting...just the perfect shape!
Learning so much from you...thank you.

I’ve been looking for another option other than Boxwood to topiary. Love the loon of this Euyonmus. ! 💕
Great idea as I need to introduce light green shades onto my garden!

Thank You.
Those scissors! 🥰
It's Sring green! Thanks Stewart (or Stuart).
You could also rake some soil from top.
Has Stuart ever been on camera? Would like to see the man behind the camera! 😀
Beautiful job with the plant.... I need to try it!
Very nice
Turned out really nice. I would buy a pair of concave cutters to trim all those nubs flush. The only thing bothering me.
I saved 8 plant's that had so many roots wrapped around the poor plants. I paid .50 cents a plant, even though they have bloomed they will all grow nice and be beautiful next year.
