There wasn't a doubt about this. It's literally why they went and got Brissett. There's no need to put Drake Maye behind a team who's made up of chewing gum and paper clips. We don't need another incident like we did with Mac Jones. Say what you will about him, but if we had done better, maybe he would've too. But that's in the past. No point to keep harping on it. Maye can sit, Brissett can start and it's no big deal

Problem is they leave the league in salary cap space and they rank dead last in real money spending. No wonder they don't have a roster that's viable so they have to hide their future quarterback. I understand the decision as it is but they never should have been in a position where they had to hide him.

This is one of those situations where he “won” the job, but in this case winning is more like losing lol
He won the job to lose to win in the long run with longevity, unless (god forbid) anything happened to Brissett.
Lifetime Patriots fan since 1978 and I approve of this decision. This is a non-story really. Drake Maye will get his starts and it may even be this season. People upset by this are being impatient.

Pats fan. Drake Maye has shown enough elite level talent pre-season that I'm totally fine with him sitting for 8-10 weeks, and not getting injured or rattled his rookie year behind the worst O-line in football. The key is developing him this year and then drafting Will Campbell (LSU), or trading out to a team starving for a QB (Giants, Steelers, Dolphins, Raiders).
Dolphins are not QB hungry.
As a NE Patriots fan, let the kid learn the ropes on the sidelines. Maye is a stud but we can’t protect him now. We have a new HC, OC, LC so let’s not throw Maye to the wolves. We need to bottom out this year and draft some OL studs next year.
We need elite receivers before anything else. Our offense is gonna be stagnant af without them

Drake Maye was my favorite QB this draft. He's tough and a. gamer and going to need it. I'm surprised no one has compared him to Steve Young to Brady's montana with his ability to use his legs as well as his arm to stretch drives.

Wild how after being drafted by the Patriots, four teams and nine seasons later Jacoby is finally the NE starter.
The guys you see in pre-season are not going to be the ones you see in the regular season. Drake looked promising, but Week 1 would be a helluva way to learn that lesson. Let JB take that heat. He's been in it enough. Drake will see action soon enough.
With that same thought process...JB looked terrible playing against those back up players in pre-season. I think Rich has it more accurate, its more a move to protect Drake vs JB actually earning this spot.
Maye has looked great. He's clearly the better QB.
Sit him. Our OLine is horrible and I don't want his body or spirit broken in season 1. Godspeed, Jake Brisket. You're in for a long year and a lot of ice tubs.
We might not be number 1 in the division but we’ll win the draft! This years a bust anyway. Bring up Maye slowly. And we’ll have a decent team next year.

If they were to throw Drake Maye in there to early we'd be in another David Carr situation. Anyone around at that time knows David Carr was talented but you can't show your talent when you're getting hit 50-70 times a year(and that's just sacks).
Mayo sees color when making decisions. He said it the day he was hired. So the white QB out plays the black QB by everyone’s account however the black QB is given the starting job.
I guess we can’t talk about it for some unknown reason. Why shouldn’t Mayo be asked if color was involved in his decision making and if not what has changed ?

This is no big deal or a big surprise. Drake is our franchise QB. We aren’t ready for him. Let this marinate, at last until December.
Unless the Pats feature a predominantly run based offense, Maye is going to be starting a lot sooner than December because JB is going to get hurt.

Barring injuries, it seems like the wisest path is to get Maye out there in December after their bye. Get the onfield experience without necessarily putting him through the gauntlet
Throw in a rookie qb right away with high expectations can go wrong whether he us successful or not. Maybe he thinks too high of himself if he performs well and gets all media glory. Or gets discouraged when people are questioning if he can fill that role. I think Green Bay is a great example of a high quality qb system. Rodgers watched Favre. Love watched Rodgers. They've had top tier qbs since the 90s

Drake Maye is obviously the future. Maybe the very near future. But as much as I want to see him play, I don't want to see him get killed behind that god-awful OL. So, Jacoby, you win; sort of.

It only makes sense. Depth chart-wise they're not in a position to win anything. So why not groom the Maye behind the scenes and continue to retool? It's the only move that makes sense

God forbid Brissett goes down, don't wish for it but it is possible. How protective of Maye are you? Do you put in milton because you want to protect him? I get being careful but this is the NFL he's gonna learn by playing, not by sitting on the bench.
This kind of decision got Anthony Lynn fired from the Chargers, who had the 32nd-ranked offensive line that year.
The reason he got fired was because of his poor time management during games and conservative coaching style that cost them many games
Tyrod had a needle puncture his lung pre game via a bad shot by a doctor. Herbert was the backup and started week 1 because of that mishap. Lynn got fired for other reasons, not because of the qb situation
Don't give me that "It's to protect Maye" nonsense. If you don't want Maye in it's because you don't think he's good enough. No one is saying that about Caleb Williams, who is going in behind the same O line that everyone blames for Justin Fields downfall.

No one was saying that last year when CJ Stroud was going in behind what people thought was one of the worst O lines AND the 2nd worst WR corp in the league (history has been re written here now that both turned out pretty decent, but before last season started everyone thought both were trash). Take a guy second overall he's gotta play!

I'm surprised Rich didn't connect the obvious dots that the front office in Wolfe and Kraft did make this decision for Mayo by forcing him to stick with the original plan to sit Maye. The last interview Rich played Mayo said Maye had outplayed Brissett, yet now here he is saying "we" I mean "I" made this decision.
To Me it seems like the opposite. Mayo has no power. From his comments. This is the Kraft's call 100 percent. Drake maye is clearly a better player than Jacoby. Not sure if I agree with it or not. But I think before the jets game he's in.
Rookie QBs don't sit their first year out anymore look at Herbert, Burrow, and Allen. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't, but this is the same for the guys who sit learn as backups.
Allen was on the last year of proving himself when he took off. Herbert and Burrow had way more talent surrounding him. But tell me what happened to Burrow in his rookie year due to a bad o-line? Lol

This idea that the Pats next season will magically improve their offense to the point that Maye is gonna have a greater success than this year is ridiculous. They have a bottom 5 o-line and it's not gonna crack the top 16 next season. If Maye's injury prone his gonna get injured, still better than sitting out a whole year, then starting a new one and getting injured and that's two years in the garbage can.

Will have a high draft pick that you they can trade back and get more picks to reinforce the oline or get a true number 1 receiver. Also have a ton of cap space to use in free agency and you can get someone like Tee Higgins to be your number 1.
