I recall when I was 18 years old and on December 25th 1986 I was spending Christmas with my dad in Greencastle, Indiana. My dad gave me the album "True Confessions" from Bananarama. After hearing this same song, I ended up with it playing through mind from when my dad took me to the airport I could fly back to greater Los Angeles area where I lived with my mom and stepfather. It played through my mind until I finally arrived at where I lived with my mom and stepfather.
I prefer the version without keyboards. They add something magical, but this is the first version I heard and it just “works better” for me. #No1BananaramaFan 💛💛💛
Back in December of 1986 when this song came out it sounded so good to me and at that time it also sounded to, warm, fuzzy and seemingly romantic and seductive and I do like it nevertheless. It also seemed dark and it was like there was more than one kind of darkness. Not long ago after listening to this song and analyzing it as best I could going with music, melody and lyrics there's something I am aware of. Apart from Jesus Christ a person is lost, guilty and without hope and along with that really is not capable of making good and wise decisions. Along with that, there is something else that becomes apparent without the Lord Jesus Christ. There are many ways that a person can very easily get into trouble and with the issues of sin, one can easily get off into messed up reasonings, messed up logic and ways of thinking. Along with issues with sin which can make a person unclean, they can get deceived and it can lead to death. With issues of sin and stuff that is satanic it can lead to a person becoming to where they don't see what they're doing is wrong which means they will bring bad things upon themselves because bad choices they don't realize they're making and other people can see what's going on before they do and by the time they realize what's happened, it is too late and those bad choices have also affected another person of the opposite gender and they feel hurt and are suffering emotional pain from being wronged and there's no guarantee the damage can be undone. It's actually very disturbing and scary.
This song could be used in the beginning of a Blacklist episode, where a male pimp meets a female prostitute. Then, the prostitute, who would be one of FBI’s most wanted on the Blacklist, would kill the pimp intensely in a graphic way.
A Trick of the Night is my favorite song by Bananarama. It´s magic...really it is!

Yep I agree. This one sounds more haunting, the other sounds like a candy pop version.
