🪓 Great update, man! Some good reading you got done. I just finished Our Wives Under The Sea from your recommendation and it was crazy and bizarre as hell lol but good so thank you. What the hell did she see at the bottom of the ocean and how the hell did it do what it did to her?!? So many questions especially about that ending. Solid read though. Keep up the good work 👍🏼

I instantly thought of HP love craft’s the deep ones and Cthulhu with that ending, it’s so cool how so many things can fall under the cosmic horror elder gods world he created. Happy you enjoyed it 🪓🪓

🪓 I loved Born a Crime, man. So hilarious for the most part. I actually saw an update this morning on that Disney thing, they decided to waive their right to arbitration and go to court because "they're a human first company" and NOT because they were getting raked over the coals by the public for that piece of ridiculousness during peak summer season, lol.

I can’t help but thinking that’s it’s not the first time they did that to someone (and got away With it), this person just happens to have a lil money to fight back.
The only time I really rolled my eyes with Born a crime was when he was talking about his wannabe gangster years lol 🪓🪓🪓

And life gets busy, I can sympathize with that. Most of my days are very busy with work and home life. But we always have to make time for some good books 📚 😁

Glad you found and enjoy Stanislaw Lem. For more eastern block perspectives you should give the Strugatsky Brothers a try. Roadside Picnic is a great place to start.

Thanks for the recommendation, I own a copy of roadside picnic and will try to move it up my tbr. I’ve been ignoring my classics sci fi novels this year and it’s so dumb of me cause there obviously my favorite

Lol you don't sound like an idiot bro, some things are just hard to describe off the cuff. I have the same problem, especially trying to explain books to ppl who don't read, it's practically impossible. You're doing great though, it's your passion for books that does it for me. I literally have no friends around me that like to read, it's sad.

It’s sooo difficult to talk books with people who don’t read , every great story sounds silly when you say it out loud it seems 🤣 I think it’s double hard for me cause I’m trying to be vague, even the back of the book give away too much info for me, they basically give away the first 150p. Going in blind is the best!
We’re a rear breed now a days it seems (very sad), hope your reading something great

@@PoorPersonsBookReviewer I am of the same mindset, the less you know about a story the better able you are to enjoy it. And I extend this to movies series anything that tells a story. I avoid watching trailers for this reason, they give away too much! 9 times out of ten after watching the trailer I feel I no longer need to watch the movie.

    hi there, friend.
2001 is a classic film and really puts to shame much of modern sf film. clarke isn't perfect but some of his oeuvre is truly amazing. in fact, i can trace my love of sf to when i first read childhood's end. have you read that? put it on your tbr list! ;)
glad to hear you liked mankind under the leash. i also thought it was very funny. i just finished camp concentration which was amazing. i'm going to have to reread it. it's also a satire or maybe black humor is a better term. the writing, as always with disch, is amazing. have your dictionary handy! can't wait until you read more disch
ah, the moonstone. that's one of those classics that i've never gotten around to. let us know if you still like it as much as you do once you've read the whole thing
you're right about how often we don't know other books by writers. i am a dune fan but i haven't read too much other stuff by herbert. i read the white plague back in the 80s but i honestly don't recall much about it
the wesleyan anthology seems excellent. i'm going to have to keep an eye out for a copy. that other short story fantasy book was edited by jeff and ann vandermeer and they are the real deal so it's not surprising that you enjoyed the stories. another one for me to keep an eye out for. that pulp one doesn't sound like my kind of thing because i only have so much time to read. i'm still amazed by how much you read every week.
congrats on finishing the question. glad you considered the historical context because with literature that is always important
congrats as well on the new poetry books. whitman is the antithesis of dickinson in several ways. will be interesting to see what you make of it. frost is an easier read (maybe) but he has depths many people miss on a first reading. take a look at acquainted with the night. can't wait to hear your take on these new poets
by the way, i love how you say books should be shorter. i totally agree!
as for the news....no comment! ;)
    cheers

hi friend i hope all is well with you.
i still have a lot to learn but im enjoying the poetry, so much to think about with so few words. Nowadays writers need to learn that.
The Question was quite a read and i really liked it despite the backwards messaging. a legit mask vigilantly would act the exact same way though lol
the Jeff and Ann vandermeer sort story collections are great, i do own a copy of the southern reach trilogy and i hear good things but my tbr is so full. if you can find a copy of the wesleyan antholgy GET IT( it's super fun and educational for a newbie like me).
Moonstone is so good so far, i cant believe how imaginary these writers in the 1800s where
i forgot to mention how smart disch writing was, White Fang was really a well educated pet lol
i have read childhoods end and no lie the alien reviles blew my mind. i usually dont like the "if we get everything we ever wanted, art will suffer" trope but childhoods end is the exception
      Cheers 🪓

@@PoorPersonsBookReviewer less is definitely more but writers today seem to get paid by the word and just write, write, write. often it's like diarrhea. ugh
oh, i really liked the southern reach trilogy. in fact, vandermeer wrote a fourth book title absolution which is coming out this fall. i may have mentioned that the "new weird" stuff isn't my cup of tea but i loved this and can't wait to get more
i really need to get a copy of wilkie's the moonstone. he has a couple other classics as well....
disch is awesome. i can't wait to hear what you think of on wings of song. i'm still thinking about that one a few weeks after i read it and, honestly, i wanted to read it again as soon as i finished. some interesting ideas in there. i'm still mulling over what it all means. awesome writing too!
childhood's end will always be one of my favorites because i was young and impressionable. some people think that clarke isn't a great writer and they might be correct but for this one i just don't care ;)
      happy reading
