    THANKS FOR WATCHING! "Dial the Gate" also recently talked with another great SG-1 guest star, Rick Worthy, who played "Kytano" (a.k.a. Imhotep) in the fifth season episode "The Warrior." You might also know him from The Magicians, Battlestar Galactica, and many other sci-fi and fantasy favorites. Here's a clip: th-cam.com/video/dAeaNQIX5-0/w-d-xo.html

    This was wonderful! Narim and the Tollan is one of the things which has stuck with me the most about SG-1, and that's in no small part due to Garwin's portrayal of Narim. I've often thought about that character and those people and wondered what happened to them. I really do wish the show had been able to follow up at some point. Perhaps if we ever get more Stargate it can be one of the things on the table....

    Man, that would have been rough seeing him made a host, it was hard enough seeing Martouf made a Za'tarc. Always wanted to know if some of the Tollans survived, maybe the Nox intervened and saved some.

      You are not kidding, the death of Martouf was hard to take. I can see where Narim being a host would have been fun for the actor, but for the fans, that would have been hard to stomach.
      I always hoped, even to the very end of the series, we'd hear from the Tollans again. I don't think their story is over.

      I feel that they were able to hide in some Tok'ra tunnels or underground caves. The Goa'uld ships really couldn't detect them very well below the surface. Though they would be living in the stone age again. That is the way I wrote them in my fanfiction story at any ways.

      That would have been a good "Sam" episode ... With Narim's knowledge and the Gould already being smart ... They could 'outhink' Sam and really put the team in peril ... All culminating to the point where Sam has to kill Narim because there is no other way with Narim's dying breath ... "This is the second time you saved me ..."

  • @willowbark5649

    I loved Narim, always had a crush on him. Loved the way he looked at Sam.
    So sad when that arc ended...as they mention, there was so much more they could have done with the character.

    I actually agree with the character of Narim being written in the episodes as 'stagnant' with little growth, because I feel that was a very indicative trait of the Tolan people. Their race had developed far, but were scared to become involved with lesser species in case they altered it's development for the worse with their advanced technology. I really feel that the Tolan people, as a whole, were a stagnant culture.... and thus to play Narim as such was the right thing to do.
    The Nox were unquestioningly uninvolved in the events of our region of space, the Tolan were a lethargic people who lacked growth because of their seclusive nature, the Ancients had all but left this plane of existence - taking no interest in the tribulations of mortal species, we never really found out what happened to the Furlings, and most other advanced races were hamstringed in some way that showed them as a culture lacking of progress. The Asgaard, were the only race that really mirrored human evolution, and the human trait of being willing to risk working with other species and all the dangers inherent there, in order to build cooperation and trust. I really feel that of all the races we came across in Stargate, that Humans and the Asgaard were the two most similar in nature, which is why I think they got along as well as they did. In the short space of 10 years, we went from brief introductions and collaborations, to inheriting their race's historical database of knowledge... that alone speaks volumes. That's like the mirror opposite of the Tolan people. I really think the Tolan's were a doomed people.... it's like a population that lacks the numbers to achieve genetic diversity - eventually it dies off.

    The episodes with the Tol'n were fantastic and I didn't like that they never did an episode to definitely say what happened to them. It was such an open ending where they were clearly getting crushed, but because they were an advanced society surely some of them made it out?

    • @ivepeters
      @ivepeters 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Once they were infiltrated, you would think some would've been told to go somewhere else, maybe to the Nox, just in case their deal went bad.
      Additionally they could phase out, the attacks would've destroyed everything else but they would've survived.

    Man I miss Stargate. I used to follow Dan and Darren’s podcast back when Universe was just starting and i loved to listen them discuss and breakdown the episodes. The closest thing I’ve found in quality if not quantity is The Expanse which kinda follows the SG premise loosely while feeling wholly original.
    Still it’s hard to deal with the crap coming out now (ie STD), having lived through the “golden age” of TV sci-fi from the late 80s to the early 2000s when they were multiple Star Trek and StarGate shows were going. Of course it wasn’t perfect but I never felt the people involved in its creation were against the very media they were creating.

You know there’s this guy MajorGrin who has a channel dedicated to pointing out all the “we did it first” and other bullshit the “writers” claim. I find it fascinating as either they’re liars or they really think they’re so much better than us and we’re to dumb to figure it out. I’ll let you decide.

    Can't y'all just hear and see him saying that?

    I wish he survived somehow, it was so rough for Sam, she had three guys she was almost dating die on her within a short time frame and they didn't address that at all. It would've been nice to see at least Narim and a few others survive

    • @DrZaius3141
      @DrZaius3141 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      "almost dating" is the thing. It always felt too much like a soap opera with how everyone was falling in love with/fawning over Carter, starting with the first episode after the pilot (S01E03: "Emancipation"), so getting rid of them and realizing Carter as a person instead of a love object was crucial in establishing her character. Though after offing them, she immediately got new men to date her.
      Let's be clear: They also forced new romantic subplots onto the rest of the main cast but it happened much less frequently.
