    Après un rève (“After a dream”) is one of the most beloved of Fauré's vocal creations. It is the first song of his Trois mélodies, op. 7 and was composed, with its companions, between 1870 and 1878.
    This song was composed in 1877 and published in 1878. The poem, based on an Italian poem titled "Levati sol che la luna è levata," is a soliloquy about a rapturous dream of a passionate encounter to which the dreamer longs to return, even though the dream is a lie.
    Après un rêve
    Fauré (1865)
    Dans un sommeil que charmait ton image
    Je rêvais le bonheur, ardent mirage;
    Tes yeux était plus doux, ta voix pure et sonore,
    Tu rayonnais comme un ciel éclairé par l'aurore.
    Tu m'appelais et je quittais la terre
    Pour m'enfuir avec toi vers la lumière;
    Les cieux pour nous, entr'ouvraient leurs nues,
    Splendeurs inconnues, lueurs divines entrevues...
    Hélas! Hélas, triste réveil des songes!
    Je t'appelle, ô nuit, rends-moi tes mensonges;
    Reviens, reviens radieuse,
    Reviens, ô nuit mystérieuse!
    Romain Bussine
    After a dream
    In a sleep which your image charmed
    I dreamed of happiness, ardent mirage;
    your eyes were sweeter, your voice pure and ringing,
    you shone like a sky lit up by the dawn.
    You were calling me, and I was leaving the earth
    to flee with you towards the light;
    the skies parted their clouds for us,
    unknown splendors, divine half-seen gleams...
    Alas! Alas! Sad awakening from dreams!
    I call on you, o night, give me back your deceits;
    come back, come back resplendent,
    come back, o mysterious night!

    Desert Song (Operetta) by Sigmund Romberg by Howard Pearson, Deseret News
    “...soars to the heights with a golden voice that’s reminiscent of Jeanette Macdonald’s, only Ruth Ann has a depth and power that sound technicians had to give to Miss Macdonald. Ruth Ann goes through “Romance,” “The Desert Song” and all the rest as if they had been written for her. ….her acting lives up to her singing. But it’s her singing voice that deserves the real raves. She reaches top range without a flaw.”
    Brigadoon by Lerner and Loewe - by John Gutman, Tribune Staff Writer “Ruth Ann is enchanting as the love which captures Tommy’s heart and ultimately redirects his life. Her expression of frustration and the transition to ecstasy in first failing, then finding the love of her life, are both evident. Her Scottish accent is appealing, and she brings a sense of under acting and blending into the whole of the fantasy story which adds a valuable dimension to her part. Additionally, her exceptional singing voice blended well with the considerable vocal talents of Mr. Stevenson.”
    Die Fledermaus (Opera) by Strauss - by Shelby R. Seem, III, News Net “The beautiful Ruth Ann, as Adele, the maid, possesses a gorgeous lyric soprano voice and is delightful in her characterization.”
    New Moon (Operetta) by Sigmund Romberg - by Howard Pearson, Deseret News
    “... Ruth Ann Nielsen, who plays Marianne, sings any one of her numbers, the notes just go soaring into the hearts and feelings of everyone in the audience. When Ruth Ann sings, “One Kiss,” for instance, there was nary a stir in the capacity audiences.”
