_"That accurately simulates the properties of light."_
Actually it doesn't. You might say that it simulates it _more_ accurately than scanline rendering methods, but that word "accurately" really needs a qualifier. Raytraced global illumination is still only an approximation. It doesn't take into account everything that happens in the real world when light reflects from surfaces and, especially when talking about the RTX technology rendering in real-time, it only traces a handful or rays and interpolates the rest of the image. It's very smart and convincing interpolation, but it's still just interpolation, rather than the real thing.

It's kinda simple actually, Ray Tracing is really attractive when you're playing games in single player mode, when you're playing multiplayer games, Ray Tracing doesn't make any sense as it increases the load on both the CPU as well as the GPU, performance and frame rate are what matters when you play multiplayer games.
I personally don't feel ray tracing is the future of gaming, it's nice but not everyone can afford a RTX graphic card, it also imposes a massive responsibility on developers as they're spending time and money in order to develop a feature that less than 10% of gamers can access , so even though it is a cool and fancy feature to have, it's not everyone's cup of tea

I feel like the real use of ray tracing will be drastically improving workflows rather than having a massive leap in visuals. Even here, the difference is so subtle that most people probably wouldn't be able to tell you if it was ray traced or not if you just showed them random screenshots of the game with rtx on and off. But if this tech was standardized in game engines going forward, it would make insane leaps in game development workflow and time/costs saved. Though it will have to be a standardized in-engine thing rather than just an Nvidia gameworks exclusive thing like it is now.

I’d like to point out that making a scene darker (4:44) isn’t typically the behavior of global illumination. In fact it almost always make a scene brighter...
In a traditional shading method only the emitters (in this scene the sun) are considered light source, so it leaves a bright spot on the ground and everything else dark. With GI the light coming off of a diffusive Surface does not only Travel to the Camera but radiates to all other surfaces, so every surface is essentially a light source(hence the name global illumination). The bright spot in this scene should then brighten up the whole hallway. You can try this at home by making your room pitch black and letting one drop of sunlight in or turning on a study lamp, you will not only see a bright spot
