I have been following the golden rule of "play what you want" as a casual since the launch of D4. That has always been Summoner Necromancer, every season. Now its my time to shine. :)
I havent played since season 1 release. I am a necromancer minion fan as well. I did my best to push him as far as I could, but I think I only managed lvl 60 or something. He felt really weak, so I'm definitely going to play a new necro this season. From weakest to strongest sounds good.
I've played random choice (using spinner wheel) and have had it chose for me the worst or 2nd worst class every time. I'll just be glad to finally have a class that's at least on paper looking like it won't be fighting uphill the whole time.
Played a lot of necro season 2, with every build. Summon barely worked, for early to mid game, so I had to switch to infinimist. Finally I can play it in all of its glory.
So you have actually been playing a roguelike game instead of an arpg and now is finally your time for a good run! Have fun. I haven't touched Necro Sums cause she was ridiculously on purpose and without reason weak. Finally will play her!

I don't think so, rhey didn't address the terrible AI, minions will hit a bit harder for sure but the build is often times so clunky because the minions are stupid that although better than its previous iteration this game still has the worse minion experience in all current ARPGs
necro isn''t just minions even in d2 necro was never really a minion build that build would get you to nightmare and that's about it and it still was rough, bone spear, led the way along with poison nova, corpse explosion, now in d2r I think minions are more viable which is great to see but they still don't sit at the top.
@@riktorGaming minion AI is bad but u can use curses to direct ur minions from the first curse used so if stuff is dying u can control them alot better now than before where u couldnt do anything
Great video as always. However, you did not mention Hydra! It got buffed just like all minions. Rob made a video discussion a firewall/hydra build that I am VERY interested in but can't find very much detailed information on. Would love a breakdown video on it from you or anyone at maxroll.
Like others here, I have always appreciated your respect for casuals. I'm basically a casual no-lifer, so it's really helpful to learn what might work for me each season. I don't always follow your build guides, but if I find I'm really struggling, it's nice to have a resource for different builds to try out. Keep up the good work!

I plan on rolling Rogue. Pretty excited to try out the barrage build and see how well it does. I think the rogue is going to surprise us, especially with the new uniques that are available. Should be a great time, looking forward to it!
I haven't played since prior to season 1. One thing I do miss kind of miss was the start of the season starting guides and doing your seasonal challenge before you start your character, going and getting the kenai's cube, augmenting one legendary item then using your bloodshards at a chance of getting a decent legendary to help with leveling. I think this should be in some way implemented again with the obdol's. Do something with the new crafting system in season 5 to craft an item that would help a low level character, but falls off late game like a reduced level requirement rolled item.
Same. The Casual category is probably the most important for me, as I typically only get an hour, hour and a half to play in the evenings, and a few hours to play during the weekends.
Funny part is 2 big youtube content makers (Raxx-Rhyker) made with Devs interview nobody asked them about Duping-Trade issues happening since Duriel boss meta appeared into their game. Thanks for your nice work Raxx either has to do with D4 or LE.
I'm giving a chance to D4 after it came to gamepass since I didn't buy it when it came out, so I'm excited for S4 since if its good that means I'll have a nice ARPG rotation with PoE/LE/D4

Great info in this video, thanks Raxx! Few thoughts on your scoring system: 1) If the overall score is based on the lowest across all categories. Then Sorc's should be 2nd, they scored an overall 14 to the barbs 15. 2) I found it interesting that you scored Sorc a 3 for casuals, yet best at leveling and speed. These are the two things casuals love the most, going fast zoom zoom and burning through content! Not to mention sorc's have a low ranked end game (casuals never get there!🤣). 3) I grinded out a barb to 80 for my first time over the last few days before season 3 ended. Was only pretty casual friendly once I got the ancient charge explosion combo going. I just don't think most casuals will even consider doing that, or look up maxroll guides. I can only agree with this casual score of 2 if we they end up handing out these season journey packages very early on, and explain how to use them. Fun ranking system overall! Was entertaining and gave me a lot to think about going into season 4! :D
The overall score isn't based on the numbers, it also takes into account some " eye test " from his personal testing. Part of the casual rating is based on everything, which includes how easy it is to make a viable build/the number of viable builds/how mechanically difficult it is to play said viable builds. Essentially Sorc's builds don't require a ton of fine tuning in terms of overly specific stat breakpoints or reaching maximum paragon levels for maximum potential to be reached. Higher starting floor, lower over all ceiling for end game.
A bit of feedback, you made the colours for ranks that improved green and the ones for ranks that decreased red, i would make the colour for the tiers sepearate like 1 green, 2 light green, 3 yellow, 4 orange, 5 red and then use red and green for the small numbers that show if a rank increased or decreased. That makes it easier to see what ranks are good and which are bad, because a green 4^-1 looks good, but it is still actually bad, while an orange 4 with a green ^-1 is much easier to understand.
I really wish MaxRoll would have an incinerate build anyway. Its what Blizzard is pushing for with the season journey gear, and I get that its not "the best" but its something that i'd love to try out as I played the new season. Plz Raxx, bring this up with the team and add an incinerate build for sorcs
I just watched the relevant part of the dev stream again regarding the Season Journey. Unless I am grossly misunderstanding them they are not just gifting us a complete set of legendaries early on they are spread across the chapters. And those chapters are not always particularly easy to complete. So I think they are being assumed to have more impact than they will in reality. Even package I think is misleading as it implies a single cache will give everything early on. But I could be wrong, will be interesting to see what the reality is.
I think you're right. People like Raxx do the season journey along the way and have help ready in their communities. For solo casuals this will not be as easy as it is represented in this video.
We honestly just don’t know. It could be super helpful early on, it could be spread far down the journey and not help much. It’s a guess at this point but it sounds like blizzard is trying to help us more with these changes. We’ll see on Tuesday

@@Raxxanterax Thanks for the reply! Yeah we don't know what the pacing will be. And assuming they are given at a rate of 1 item per chapter, the order could still make a huge difference. Like if Pulverise gets shockwave for Chapter 1 that's quite different than if it's a reward for Chapter 6. I hope I'm right and it isn't too frontloaded, but more like a safety net for if you don't find what you need for that build and a way to give players a direction and incentive to try a new build.

Add in inferno build to that list, insanely strong now. Going to be major contender. Aspect that splits beams can now double when staffed, 150% increase to each stream. Can have up to 3 hydras out with aspect, without enchantment. Burning damage melts everything, even the boss in hell tides.
@@kaylee42900 I feel like it's way overhyped. The only thing it's godly at is single target/bossing. For general gameplay, even among Necro, it was by far the slowest and squishiest build I tested in the PTR (although tbf, Blight with Ebonpiercer was leagues better mainly because it was bugged). The minion AI is still terrible, and while other builds just steamtrain ahead through everything, as Minion Necro you constantly have to backtrack and kite mobs into your slow (or stuck) minions while you are extremely prone to getting oneshot without Stand Alone and Bone Storm DR, or the ability to CC and kill things at range, etc. It's going to be good and a blast, at least compared to minions before, but I think people are really getting set up for disappointment by being sold some uber OP speedy shredder build with Minions. TL;DR: Yes it's going to be good, but it's slow, clunky (with AI) and super squishy compared to most everything else.
@@asum7786 totally fair. I think the main thing is it gets off the ground quick for levelling and the gear package for necro is minion based. So it's a nice smooth start and then you can transition into something else if you don't like it.

I quit the game shortly after getting to 60 at release, came back for season 2, enjoyed that a bit better, was hopeful for S3, S3 sucked so bad I quit the game. I am coming back for S4 and I hope it is as good as it sounds. I love D3 and I really need a good ARPG to fill the void until Path of Exile 2 comes out. I hope this lasts until then. season 4 doesn't really have a season, the iron wolves and such is across everything and the only real season stuff is their story line and the season pass, unless blizzard snuck in something else that they chose to not tell us which is unlikely
i really wish Minions in Diablo worked like in Last epoch. in that game you can fully control them and they have abilities outside of just summoning the dude
I have been asking everywhere since the BETA to add a keybind that allows us to command the minions to attack the target that we Necromancer are attacking. It would be enough for them to attack the target that corresponds to the mouse cursor, for those who use a mouse and keyboard. For those who use the pad...I understand that it is complicated to add another keybind but I think that for them it would be enough to simply improve extremely the AI because...let's be clear, those who play with gamepad (in Diablo 4) are more casual players than those who usually play with mouse and keyboard. Being a casual player is not an offense, it's a fact.
Love ya Rax. One thing I'd love to see, and even be willing to pay for, is a level 100 Hardcore PvP tournament. You and other content creators duke it out to the death, and whoever comes out on top will get 2-300 bucks or so. Would be cool if more people chipped in for a fatter pot, but we'd have to coordinate... Yesterday opened my eyes to the fun potential of D4s HC PvP scene, and its amazing! Every season I took one of each classes and played it casually to level 50 Nightmare Dungeon and then just stopped playing. I knew I wanna keep Rogue as last cus its prolly the hardest diff. class in order to achieve something as you said. Im kinda hyped to this season.
sorc is actually is on top of a list, 3-4 time faster then necro at Pit100, that is everybody will be doing in season 4, farming Pit level 100 fast, good job Raxxanterrax, thank you
Rewards scale all the way up to 200 though. And while Sorc can do 100 real fast if a Minion Necro can do a 150 in 25% more time it's not even a competition. Sorc can probs clear the mobs faster than most, but bosses will be a problem if the HP goes really high on them. We'll have to see, because most of my ST damage on Sorc came from Elemental Surge and that has now been desimated. But helltide, yeah it will be the best. Do to how it's animations work, you can cast Arc Lash instantly once teleport lands and then evade is already out of CD because of it, so you end up insta teleporting around.
My vote is for sorcerer this season. Awesome helltide farm builds. Awesome speed. Quite the diversity in your build choices(freeze evade, teleport dmg & aoe, frozen orb, blizzard, fireball, generators and many more i missed). Just pure fun and enjoyment from level 1 until end game.
Thanks for another great season ranking Rax! I am curious to see how the endgame turns out given that the changes to armor. It seems Blizzard is making the characters very strong at content of their own level but defensively weaker for endgame content. Personally, I play Sorc. There are so many great options though... I played in the PTR and in my opinion it is a big step up from season 3.
I almost never do minion Necro, but I may give it a go. It's so hard not to go with corpse explosion. It's just so satisfying putting together the endless chain reaction of explosions when the build really gets going.
Coming back to the game, haven't touched it since Season 1. It looks like the game is finally in the state it should have been at launch, and I'm very excited!
The fact that you get skill slots that will give you 5% critical or 20% more solo dmg if u DON'T use your minions is proof that they never put any real work into a minion archetype, they just thought most players will take the 5% crit chance instead because it's just skyrockets your spellcasting to a whole new level. Feels like the whole summon three of necromancer in D4 is actually just regular buffs to yourself disguised as "either your minion suck or you get twice more powerful without them" skill.
I try to play a different class every season so season 4 is going to be Druid. I usually just let gear drops and affixes determine what build I'll play. With that said... I'll definitely also give the Necro minion build a try as I've never played that. I'm looking forward to checking out the changes. Thanks for the hours and hard work! I can't do what you do. me to... I do a rotation every season... this season is Rogue time!... I dont care about the pit efficiency (rifts) without ladder boards attached to them...
Same with me and druid. I just like how the class is in D4 and I've yet to come across a build besides pure companions that I don't enjoy. I normally do 2-3 characters a season, but it always starts with druid.

Twisted Blades is back as you can stack imbunes now to absurd levels and Rapid Fire seems like the go to builds..
I think Rogue's have had the most balance outside of bugs so as characters are power crept and power crept they've just been left in the dust a bit. Gonna play it this season like a masochist so I can be astonished when they hopefully get that bump.
minions finally! this will be the best d4 season yet. i always make sorc. but im going to make barb to experience having 4 weapons with 5 stats because that is just stupid as well. but necro is an old favorite so i gotta make that... and with leveling being 10x faster, all of this is possible. this is the first time i been excited to play d4 since day 1 release!
8:55 I know you are kind of a fan of the frozen orb build that got buffed and that you played it quite a bit on the ptr.. But incase you missed it, incinerate also got tremendous buffs for season 4.. This set makes just as much sense as frozen orb. It didn't get the same exposure because people for whatever reason didn't stream it or made any videos of it, but I found it quite fun and powerful.
Yeah, Incinerate was fine during PTR. I think it will replace firewall for leveling since 1.) players can target moving mobs, 2.)use firewall enchantment for firewall procs, 3.) can kill mobs faster and 4.) I'm pretty sure people won't have that much issue with mana. Only downside is you are not mobile.
I typically play what I think is fun. Since launch, I've played tornado werewolf druid, bear druid, lightning ball sorc, and lightning storm druid. I've been eyeballing the blizzard sorc lately and will probably give that a try.
Haven't played since the game came out right before season 1 started. Even though you ranked necros #1 I just checked max roll and I'm sad necro blood builds are still just meh. I will be back if blood builds ever get some love. I'll be keeping my eye on the future of D4 through this channel. Thanks!

Funny how they think Rogue is ok and doesn't need any tweaks when it's very low on every performance since the huge nerfs of Season 3 and yet Barb continue to be overpowered since Season 1. Great work Raxx, I just can't say the same for Blizzard
For the OG's in the house, you remember how in Secret of Mana you could customize how aggressive your companions were as well as what they targeted? And that was on Super Nintendo. Need I say more?
I'm really glad that I played the crap out of the twisting blades rogue for the first couple of seasons. The daggers rogue is my favorite fantasy archetype, and I despise playing ranged characters. It's just not my personal style regardless of its efficacy. I probably will explore something else like a minions necro or a druid this season.

It might be nice to do a sort of "retrospect" on these videos near the end of a season to see how expectations matched with actual performance. Doesn't have to be as extensive as the originals, but maybe a few minutes total as a short update? Especially with a big shakeup like there is this season it might be fun to see how "wrong" we were in our expectations. And also in other seasons there might be unexpected interactions causing builds to under/overperform, or new builds entirely may pop up. Not sure what would be good timing for the retrospect, maybe about 4 weeks or so into a season?
I think you are underestimating the potential survivability sorcerer can get with very good gear in the endgame. If you get enough cdr, you can get: perma ice armor, 30% dr from teleporting all 3 seconds, vyrs mastery close dr, dr from alig the elements ( mayber 3 points might be worth now), 26% dr vs burning, 21% dr vs elites, 15% dr vs vulnerable, and maybe 15% dr while barrier from paragorn, and several 25% dr aspects like concentration or everliving. With all this you can reach. On frozen orb for example all of this multiplied can amount to a total of 90% dr while having a permanent ice armor. I can see it being a problem on hardcore, bec many conditional dr mean 1 mistake and you are dead, but generally you can reahc very high survival without sacrificing too much dmg.
Totally agree. I never understand why people say Sorcs are squishy and Barbs are unkillable. On the PTR my Sorc felt way more tanky than my Barb and you can kill everything from 1 screen away. Someone should run the numbers again for Barb like you did for Sorc.
Btw since you've mentioned conditional def, Sorcs even have this mistake-shield passive 😅 (forgot the name, the one that stacks DR over time until you get hit), and Barb shout has even worse CD. Maybe Iron Skin will be a thing again for Pit ^^
Yeah I forgot the mana shield and that one isn’t even conditional it is just another 24% dr. Also on cold builds you can very easily get 35% dr vs chilled, though that’s often not reliable
Thank you very much for your work. Really interesting. I have a bit of an issue understanding some things, though. At the end I saw you ranked Necro in Season 2 as five. I played Blood Lance Necro in S2 and went through everything almost unkillable. So this is not meant as a critique or saying that you dont know what you are talking about - you clearly do. I just have a bit of a hard time wrapping my head around that piece of information.
Last chance Blizz. If this season is trash I'll look at another game to fill the Diablo itch, can't keep throwing money at seasons for a game that is not fun. Love the builds and content Raxx, that was the only thing Diablo 4 had going for it was farming gear you suggested.
Really glad to see Necro minions buffed. However, I'll be starting with Rogue specifically for the challenge. Low-APM, two-button builds kind of put me to sleep.
What do you mean? Rogue had only close quarters builds up until now and arguably still if you want a top tier build. (I mean the skills are ranged but you have to use them as a shotgun effect to do good damage)
@kapiteinlulhaas7612 Good point. I just wish they can get the balance together. Right now it's either one or the othe and endgame range skill only. His defense request for rogue would really open up choices for the rogue. I enjoy fast melee but for highest difficulty it's like slamming my head into a wall. Both should be viable at the highest levels.
@@6lackn322 If they don't add significantly more when the expansion hits I wouldn't expect them to do much for another 2-3 years then. I wanted to love this game but it's been mishandled since day one. This season is yet another step in the right direction, but there are not nearly enough builds in the game. I don't why my expectations of 7-8 total builds per class was not viable for them when making it. It's just disappointing that even with the builds we have, 2-3 of them are not going to work on high end content without being minmaxed to death. It's a shame these guys don't seem to know what they are doing.

I don't think so, rhey didn't address the terrible AI, minions will hit a bit harder for sure but the build is often times so clunky because the minions are stupid that although better than its previous iteration this game still has the worse minion experience in all current ARPGs
necro isn''t just minions even in d2 necro was never really a minion build that build would get you to nightmare and that's about it and it still was rough, bone spear, led the way along with poison nova, corpse explosion, now in d2r I think minions are more viable which is great to see but they still don't sit at the top.
@@riktorGaming minion AI is bad but u can use curses to direct ur minions from the first curse used so if stuff is dying u can control them alot better now than before where u couldnt do anything

Great video as always. However, you did not mention Hydra! It got buffed just like all minions. Rob made a video discussion a firewall/hydra build that I am VERY interested in but can't find very much detailed information on. Would love a breakdown video on it from you or anyone at maxroll.

I plan on rolling Rogue. Pretty excited to try out the barrage build and see how well it does. I think the rogue is going to surprise us, especially with the new uniques that are available. Should be a great time, looking forward to it!

I haven't played since prior to season 1. One thing I do miss kind of miss was the start of the season starting guides and doing your seasonal challenge before you start your character, going and getting the kenai's cube, augmenting one legendary item then using your bloodshards at a chance of getting a decent legendary to help with leveling. I think this should be in some way implemented again with the obdol's. Do something with the new crafting system in season 5 to craft an item that would help a low level character, but falls off late game like a reduced level requirement rolled item.

Great info in this video, thanks Raxx! Few thoughts on your scoring system:
1) If the overall score is based on the lowest across all categories. Then Sorc's should be 2nd, they scored an overall 14 to the barbs 15.
2) I found it interesting that you scored Sorc a 3 for casuals, yet best at leveling and speed. These are the two things casuals love the most, going fast zoom zoom and burning through content! Not to mention sorc's have a low ranked end game (casuals never get there!🤣).
3) I grinded out a barb to 80 for my first time over the last few days before season 3 ended. Was only pretty casual friendly once I got the ancient charge explosion combo going. I just don't think most casuals will even consider doing that, or look up maxroll guides. I can only agree with this casual score of 2 if we they end up handing out these season journey packages very early on, and explain how to use them.
Fun ranking system overall! Was entertaining and gave me a lot to think about going into season 4! :D
The overall score isn't based on the numbers, it also takes into account some " eye test " from his personal testing. Part of the casual rating is based on everything, which includes how easy it is to make a viable build/the number of viable builds/how mechanically difficult it is to play said viable builds. Essentially Sorc's builds don't require a ton of fine tuning in terms of overly specific stat breakpoints or reaching maximum paragon levels for maximum potential to be reached. Higher starting floor, lower over all ceiling for end game.
A bit of feedback, you made the colours for ranks that improved green and the ones for ranks that decreased red, i would make the colour for the tiers sepearate like 1 green, 2 light green, 3 yellow, 4 orange, 5 red and then use red and green for the small numbers that show if a rank increased or decreased. That makes it easier to see what ranks are good and which are bad, because a green 4^-1 looks good, but it is still actually bad, while an orange 4 with a green ^-1 is much easier to understand.
I really wish MaxRoll would have an incinerate build anyway. Its what Blizzard is pushing for with the season journey gear, and I get that its not "the best" but its something that i'd love to try out as I played the new season.
Plz Raxx, bring this up with the team and add an incinerate build for sorcs

I just watched the relevant part of the dev stream again regarding the Season Journey. Unless I am grossly misunderstanding them they are not just gifting us a complete set of legendaries early on they are spread across the chapters. And those chapters are not always particularly easy to complete. So I think they are being assumed to have more impact than they will in reality. Even package I think is misleading as it implies a single cache will give everything early on.
But I could be wrong, will be interesting to see what the reality is.
I think you're right. People like Raxx do the season journey along the way and have help ready in their communities. For solo casuals this will not be as easy as it is represented in this video.
We honestly just don’t know. It could be super helpful early on, it could be spread far down the journey and not help much. It’s a guess at this point but it sounds like blizzard is trying to help us more with these changes. We’ll see on Tuesday

@@Raxxanterax Thanks for the reply! Yeah we don't know what the pacing will be. And assuming they are given at a rate of 1 item per chapter, the order could still make a huge difference. Like if Pulverise gets shockwave for Chapter 1 that's quite different than if it's a reward for Chapter 6.
I hope I'm right and it isn't too frontloaded, but more like a safety net for if you don't find what you need for that build and a way to give players a direction and incentive to try a new build.

Add in inferno build to that list, insanely strong now. Going to be major contender. Aspect that splits beams can now double when staffed, 150% increase to each stream. Can have up to 3 hydras out with aspect, without enchantment. Burning damage melts everything, even the boss in hell tides.

@@kaylee42900 I feel like it's way overhyped. The only thing it's godly at is single target/bossing. For general gameplay, even among Necro, it was by far the slowest and squishiest build I tested in the PTR (although tbf, Blight with Ebonpiercer was leagues better mainly because it was bugged).
The minion AI is still terrible, and while other builds just steamtrain ahead through everything, as Minion Necro you constantly have to backtrack and kite mobs into your slow (or stuck) minions while you are extremely prone to getting oneshot without Stand Alone and Bone Storm DR, or the ability to CC and kill things at range, etc.
It's going to be good and a blast, at least compared to minions before, but I think people are really getting set up for disappointment by being sold some uber OP speedy shredder build with Minions.
TL;DR:
Yes it's going to be good, but it's slow, clunky (with AI) and super squishy compared to most everything else.

@@asum7786 totally fair. I think the main thing is it gets off the ground quick for levelling and the gear package for necro is minion based. So it's a nice smooth start and then you can transition into something else if you don't like it.
I can't wait to finally play Necro in a D4 season.

I quit the game shortly after getting to 60 at release, came back for season 2, enjoyed that a bit better, was hopeful for S3, S3 sucked so bad I quit the game. I am coming back for S4 and I hope it is as good as it sounds. I love D3 and I really need a good ARPG to fill the void until Path of Exile 2 comes out. I hope this lasts until then. season 4 doesn't really have a season, the iron wolves and such is across everything and the only real season stuff is their story line and the season pass, unless blizzard snuck in something else that they chose to not tell us which is unlikely
i really wish Minions in Diablo worked like in Last epoch. in that game you can fully control them and they have abilities outside of just summoning the dude

I didn't like that you had to have the minion abilities as active skills tbh. Felt a bit boring to play, less buttons to press.
I have been asking everywhere since the BETA to add a keybind that allows us to command the minions to attack the target that we Necromancer are attacking.
It would be enough for them to attack the target that corresponds to the mouse cursor, for those who use a mouse and keyboard.
For those who use the pad...I understand that it is complicated to add another keybind but I think that for them it would be enough to simply improve extremely the AI because...let's be clear, those who play with gamepad (in Diablo 4) are more casual players than those who usually play with mouse and keyboard.
Being a casual player is not an offense, it's a fact.
I'm going with a sorceress, she's the only character I haven't tried. These changes in general will give more life to the game

One thing I'd love to see, and even be willing to pay for, is a level 100 Hardcore PvP tournament. You and other content creators duke it out to the death, and whoever comes out on top will get 2-300 bucks or so. Would be cool if more people chipped in for a fatter pot, but we'd have to coordinate...

Every season I took one of each classes and played it casually to level 50 Nightmare Dungeon and then just stopped playing. I knew I wanna keep Rogue as last cus its prolly the hardest diff. class in order to achieve something as you said. Im kinda hyped to this season.
sorc is actually is on top of a list, 3-4 time faster then necro at Pit100, that is everybody will be doing in season 4, farming Pit level 100 fast, good job Raxxanterrax, thank you
Rewards scale all the way up to 200 though. And while Sorc can do 100 real fast if a Minion Necro can do a 150 in 25% more time it's not even a competition. Sorc can probs clear the mobs faster than most, but bosses will be a problem if the HP goes really high on them. We'll have to see, because most of my ST damage on Sorc came from Elemental Surge and that has now been desimated.
But helltide, yeah it will be the best. Do to how it's animations work, you can cast Arc Lash instantly once teleport lands and then evade is already out of CD because of it, so you end up insta teleporting around.
My vote is for sorcerer this season. Awesome helltide farm builds. Awesome speed. Quite the diversity in your build choices(freeze evade, teleport dmg & aoe, frozen orb, blizzard, fireball, generators and many more i missed). Just pure fun and enjoyment from level 1 until end game.

Thanks for another great season ranking Rax! I am curious to see how the endgame turns out given that the changes to armor. It seems Blizzard is making the characters very strong at content of their own level but defensively weaker for endgame content.
Personally, I play Sorc. There are so many great options though... I played in the PTR and in my opinion it is a big step up from season 3.
I'll be trying the new Rogue this season for sure!
I almost never do minion Necro, but I may give it a go. It's so hard not to go with corpse explosion. It's just so satisfying putting together the endless chain reaction of explosions when the build really gets going.
Coming back to the game, haven't touched it since Season 1. It looks like the game is finally in the state it should have been at launch, and I'm very excited!
The fact that you get skill slots that will give you 5% critical or 20% more solo dmg if u DON'T use your minions is proof that they never put any real work into a minion archetype, they just thought most players will take the 5% crit chance instead because it's just skyrockets your spellcasting to a whole new level. Feels like the whole summon three of necromancer in D4 is actually just regular buffs to yourself disguised as "either your minion suck or you get twice more powerful without them" skill.
Shred is really good for leveling now since you cam get the resource aspect right away. I think shred is being slept on for druid leveling
I try to play a different class every season so season 4 is going to be Druid. I usually just let gear drops and affixes determine what build I'll play. With that said... I'll definitely also give the Necro minion build a try as I've never played that. I'm looking forward to checking out the changes. Thanks for the hours and hard work! I can't do what you do. Same with me and druid. I just like how the class is in D4 and I've yet to come across a build besides pure companions that I don't enjoy. I normally do 2-3 characters a season, but it always starts with druid.
Twisted Blades is back as you can stack imbunes now to absurd levels and Rapid Fire seems like the go to builds..
I think Rogue's have had the most balance outside of bugs so as characters are power crept and power crept they've just been left in the dust a bit. Gonna play it this season like a masochist so I can be astonished when they hopefully get that bump.
minions finally! this will be the best d4 season yet. i always make sorc. but im going to make barb to experience having 4 weapons with 5 stats because that is just stupid as well. but necro is an old favorite so i gotta make that... and with leveling being 10x faster, all of this is possible. this is the first time i been excited to play d4 since day 1 release!
8:55 I know you are kind of a fan of the frozen orb build that got buffed and that you played it quite a bit on the ptr.. But incase you missed it, incinerate also got tremendous buffs for season 4.. This set makes just as much sense as frozen orb. It didn't get the same exposure because people for whatever reason didn't stream it or made any videos of it, but I found it quite fun and powerful.
Yeah, Incinerate was fine during PTR. I think it will replace firewall for leveling since 1.) players can target moving mobs, 2.)use firewall enchantment for firewall procs, 3.) can kill mobs faster and 4.) I'm pretty sure people won't have that much issue with mana. Only downside is you are not mobile.
I typically play what I think is fun. Since launch, I've played tornado werewolf druid, bear druid, lightning ball sorc, and lightning storm druid. I've been eyeballing the blizzard sorc lately and will probably give that a try.
Don't forget item trading of both legendaries & uniques! That alone will make some of the more painful endgame gear much easier to acquire.

Haven't played since the game came out right before season 1 started. Even though you ranked necros #1 I just checked max roll and I'm sad necro blood builds are still just meh. I will be back if blood builds ever get some love. I'll be keeping my eye on the future of D4 through this channel. Thanks!

I'm super pumped for Minion Necro. Its the one build I've wanted to do since this game launched.
I'm really glad that I played the crap out of the twisting blades rogue for the first couple of seasons. The daggers rogue is my favorite fantasy archetype, and I despise playing ranged characters. It's just not my personal style regardless of its efficacy. I probably will explore something else like a minions necro or a druid this season.
Hell yeah, im gonna play a rogue, even if its not the best. Im just intrested into the class, never played one and that new ring with Rapid Fire looks like a lot of fun.

It might be nice to do a sort of "retrospect" on these videos near the end of a season to see how expectations matched with actual performance. Doesn't have to be as extensive as the originals, but maybe a few minutes total as a short update?
Especially with a big shakeup like there is this season it might be fun to see how "wrong" we were in our expectations. And also in other seasons there might be unexpected interactions causing builds to under/overperform, or new builds entirely may pop up.

I think you are underestimating the potential survivability sorcerer can get with very good gear in the endgame. If you get enough cdr, you can get: perma ice armor, 30% dr from teleporting all 3 seconds, vyrs mastery close dr, dr from alig the elements ( mayber 3 points might be worth now), 26% dr vs burning, 21% dr vs elites, 15% dr vs vulnerable, and maybe 15% dr while barrier from paragorn, and several 25% dr aspects like concentration or everliving. With all this you can reach. On frozen orb for example all of this multiplied can amount to a total of 90% dr while having a permanent ice armor. I can see it being a problem on hardcore, bec many conditional dr mean 1 mistake and you are dead, but generally you can reahc very high survival without sacrificing too much dmg.
Totally agree. I never understand why people say Sorcs are squishy and Barbs are unkillable. On the PTR my Sorc felt way more tanky than my Barb and you can kill everything from 1 screen away. Someone should run the numbers again for Barb like you did for Sorc.
Btw since you've mentioned conditional def, Sorcs even have this mistake-shield passive 😅 (forgot the name, the one that stacks DR over time until you get hit), and Barb shout has even worse CD. Maybe Iron Skin will be a thing again for Pit ^^
Yeah I forgot the mana shield and that one isn’t even conditional it is just another 24% dr. Also on cold builds you can very easily get 35% dr vs chilled, though that’s often not reliable
@onestart586 lightning has another DR passive as well vs the attacked monster. Besides that everything is crowd controlled anyway 😅

I have a bit of an issue understanding some things, though.
At the end I saw you ranked Necro in Season 2 as five. I played Blood Lance Necro in S2 and went through everything almost unkillable. So this is not meant as a critique or saying that you dont know what you are talking about - you clearly do.
I just have a bit of a hard time wrapping my head around that piece of information.
Last chance Blizz. If this season is trash I'll look at another game to fill the Diablo itch, can't keep throwing money at seasons for a game that is not fun. Love the builds and content Raxx, that was the only thing Diablo 4 had going for it was farming gear you suggested.

Really glad to see Necro minions buffed. However, I'll be starting with Rogue specifically for the challenge. Low-APM, two-button builds kind of put me to sleep.
The "Golden Rule" is crucial. There will be a great guide for any build, but you must play what you like

Rogue is my favorite class, but I hate that range is the only option. The classes really need more skill options.
What do you mean? Rogue had only close quarters builds up until now and arguably still if you want a top tier build. (I mean the skills are ranged but you have to use them as a shotgun effect to do good damage)

His defense request for rogue would really open up choices for the rogue. I enjoy fast melee but for highest difficulty it's like slamming my head into a wall. Both should be viable at the highest levels.
@@6lackn322 If they don't add significantly more when the expansion hits I wouldn't expect them to do much for another 2-3 years then. I wanted to love this game but it's been mishandled since day one. This season is yet another step in the right direction, but there are not nearly enough builds in the game. I don't why my expectations of 7-8 total builds per class was not viable for them when making it. It's just disappointing that even with the builds we have, 2-3 of them are not going to work on high end content without being minmaxed to death. It's a shame these guys don't seem to know what they are doing.
