Ranking The Albums: The Cure

- Chris from Rekkid Talk tackles the 13 studio albums by The Cure, released between 1979 and 2008. Along the way, I also show off various other Cure stuff that I have, in terms of live records, compilations, and DVDs. Some discussion about how it can be a bit of a chore to rank large discographies.
Hey Chris, this was great. I have that Trilogy dvd too, love it. I agree with #3, listening to it now, but my first 2 would be Head on the Door and The Top. Great ranking video, really enjoyed it!
Thanks, I can say Wild Mood Swings is an album that I've become more of a fan of since I made that video.
A classic from the archives! Im surprised how low you ranked Faith. I play that one fairly often. Im more a fan of their early stuff these days. I started with Disintegration when I was in High school and also standing on a beach comp on cassette. I really like seventeen seconds too. I need to get a copy of three imaginary boys on wax sometime. Cheers!
Faith never grabbed me the way many of the other albums did and never got played as much.
Special shoutout to The Cure In Orange, my favorite Cure recording of all. Nice vid.

@@RekkidTalk The Cure arguably at their peak. The performances are definitive for so many of their classic songs. If you can find a “rip” of the audio, I highly recommend it.
@@itchyvinyl My favourite too. Managed to get an Australian DVD of The Cure In Orange. It's a must watch.
Been picking up those deluxe editions, so far i have gotten their first 5 first with bonus CD and Disintegration as a 3 disc-set !! i may do a Cure ranking myself soon ! Cheers !

I would rank Faith higher. I'm also wondering about Japanese Whispers. Although it was technically a singles compilation, none of the tracks appear on any other album that I know of. There are some great tracks on it as well. If you were to include it, where would it appear in your ranking?
Karl, others have mentioned Faith and I think I have it much lower than most. If I had included Japanese Whispers, it probably would have been in the lower middle part of the rankings. I'd have it above Faith but probably below all the other 80s albums and Wish.
I had my hard drive with ripped CDs set on random and it played "Wild Mood Swings" a few days ago and I liked it better than I remembered, maybe the same will happen the next time I listen to "Faith".
@@RekkidTalk Thanks for the reply, Chris. I think you and I started listening to the Cure at about the same time. At that time, late 80s, my music listening friends and I knew Faith as an essential part of the original "Goth Trilogy," along with 17 Seconds and Pornography. We listened to all three records a lot. If pressed I would probably rank Faith third among those three, but not trailing too far behind on the band's discography. Btw, are you familiar with the long instrumental piece Carnage Visors? It used to be included as the B-side of the Faith cassette?
I had Carnage Visors copied onto a cassette at some point, but that tape is long gone and it's probably been 30 years since I listened to it.

Yeah, I'm definitely recommending holding off on the last couple of records--fill in gaps of stuff you don't have from the 80s. "Show" and especially "Paris" were great live albums recorded in the early 90s.
Good ranking-Mine wouldn't be much different. I'm not a huge fan of the first album-maybe I'd rank that lower. I don't have much Cure on vinyl either, I'll have to fix that.

I enjoyed listening to you discuss your rankings. Below are my favorite albums ranked. I'm not so into their latter albums, so I'm ranking the first nine which are all great. I'm also not attempting to be objective, but based on what I enjoy and listen to most.

8. Disintegration (Aware that this is ranked too low for most Cure fans)

I really like Wild Mood Swings. To me it has three all time great Cure songs. Want, Jupiter Crash and Mint Car.
Wow, I had my music server on random yesterday and Wild Mood Swings came up and I definitely enjoyed it more than I remembered. I could see it going up a notch or two if I re-did the list.
