Chris from Rekkid Talk
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 17 เม.ย. 2021
Another middle-aged nerd decides to join the vinyl community to talk about music he likes. My sweet spot is 1980s and 1990s "alternative" but I won't limit myself to that genre.
My plan is to do about one or two videos a week. Generally I post them at 7:45 AM Central Time (U.S.) on Tuesdays and possibly other days. The Tuesday videos will be about my vinyl finds in antique malls & thrift stores (about twice a month), Five Rekkids, Five Minutes on the 50 states of the U.S.A. (once a month), and Five Rekkids, Five Minutes on years starting in 1964 and every fifth year after (once a month).
Other videos based on my whim and avaialable time will include reviews of albums, vinyl community contests & threads, and whatever else I have to talk about.

This was 5 times better than 5 vinyl in 5 minutes.
Actually 10 times. Check your math. 🧮
Leave it to a statistics person, to get it to 1:00 exactly. Scarier than L7 indeed.
More mathematical/statistical content in future videos!
Nice collection. Charly 10" rockabilly reissues are just cool. Need to get some more, like that Bobbers.
I saw you have some of the Sun reissues on individual artists that I don't have.
@@RekkidTalk These are excellent comps. Only best songs. Fully recommend!
Hi Chris!!! had no idea about this thread...... but as i don't collect 7" singles, this format is even unknown to me, however i think i have seeing in my mom's old records she have at her place an Elvis 10" record. Btw it was cool to see RATM had one release, the song is really too. cheers and be well
Are 10" records a thing in the metal world?
@@RekkidTalk No, they're not a thing at all... nowadays you don't see 7" singles very much either just vinyl. cds & cassettes!!! cheers and be well
Great T shirt, Chris! (mine is black with red text). I listen to Soma fm quite a bit. Saw Bela Fleck live many years ago - fantastic. I recognize Gov't Mule, but never have given them a listen.
I was listening to a lot of Phish/Widespread Panic/Gov't Mule stuff during this time period, less so now.
@RekkidTalk I hear ya. Makes one go back and see how one's taste has changed over the years. I can't even remember what I was into in 2009!
Love this series, Chris. Wilco is one of those bands I've decided I'll always read about, but will never own. Green Day - they hold elder statesman status in 2024!
"They were playing Green Day at the grocery store at 7 AM when only old people shop!"
@@RekkidTalk What a world we live in!
Nicely done as always, Chris! That Screaming Trees compilation looks fantastic. I have some Mark Lanegan solo stuff.
I should get some solo Lanegan.
I didn’t know there was a Dickson line. Ty Segal and Brian Jonestown is what I would walk out with. 6:07 Yeah, those can all remain sealed. I also have a big head. My wife would burn that hat.
My recollection is the Segall record had a warp.
I need to get a pack of 10" sleeves and like you said, 25 of them will last me for the rest of my life. "Rockabirry"....hilarious how they attempt to translate some things. I saw a Japanese import of the band Yes where they were called "The Affirmatives". I should have bought it, but I didn't have $100 at the time. Very interesting 10" records there. Love that Minutemen "joy" album, very cool. Never seen that Slint 10" before. Cool stuff!
@@TCatsDeepVinylTraxx i could have split my 25 pack of outer sleeves
Some really cool records here, I’ll check it out the big majority of these. French is on point :) Cheers
A La Luz intersection.
@@vinylrichie007 maybe I'll do a Venn diagram video about EPs vs maxi singles vs mini LPs
@RekkidTalk more statistics in the VC please.
Hey Chris - Some cool records, including ones I have never seen. I never expected to see Juliana Hatfield 😀😆 I have a smaller crate for 10" records, since I only have about 20!
@@EmbryonicRobot I'm missing a couple of Juliana 10", they were all released as CD maxi singles in the US.
Alien Snatch? I would have to consult Captain Kirk about that. I have no problem storing 10" records. They are in alphabetical order along with the 12" records. Simple!
@@mistery-ed7900 but they are smaller!
@@RekkidTalk My OCD isn't that severe.
Hi Chris!!! i think it's one of the first times i have never heard any of those bands before and thought "Band of Skulls" was a europower or death metal band..... that would have been cool!!! cheers and be well
Sorry to disappoint you with Band of Skulls. I did see Opeth at the same festival (Bonnaroo) that I went to twice in 2011, 2012.
Came here because i saw Middlelifecrisisrants video, stayed because i enjoyed the video. Keep up the good work, cheers!
Joe Kim is cool!
Still can start countdown from 1969 to 2019, because I have only 4 records from '69... I don't calculate reissues.
I'll count reissues as the year the record originally came out, because I like to cheat.
@@RekkidTalk Nooooooo! What I can trust now?
Beck-a-tomist? Is that something related to a big-a-mist?
Yes.
Interesting to find BJM in a thrift store, would have been a grab for me. Nice hat purchase Lot of cassettes at the second place.
I did get the Brian Jonestown Massacre but not the Ty Segall - if I remember correctly since it was a few months ago, I think the latter had a bit of warp. This place was a vendor mall rather than a thrift store, but still not the kind of album you typically find outside of an indie rekkid store.
"I should see if it fits. I've got kind of a big head" is going on my tombstone. Also, you're wearing my Stay Home Cardas shirt 🤣🤣🤣 Man, at the first place you showed I was reminded that I store my plastic record in a plastic inner sleeve in a plastic outer sleeve and what am I doing to this planet... Cheers! Tom
Oh yeah, the first booth with all the 45s in super slick plastic sleeves because apparently that person never heard of or is too cheap to put their expensive little rekkids in paper sleeves. Also, most "one size fits all" adjustable caps barely fit me.
@@RekkidTalk Same here. Don't need a tourniquet on my melon.
Hi Chris!!! Well that was a hit or miss video..... i think your best additions has to be the cool hat, lol!!! I don't know why the put records in book shelves when you can barely only read the spine. cheers and be well
I think people that have records to sell but aren't "vinyl people" don't get why this makes it less likely someone will look through and buy your stuff.
Nice hat Chris 😊
@@MortenAastad🧙♂️is next
yeah chris, pablo records started in the 1970's by Norman Granz, the same guy who started verve records, back in the mid 50's.
🎷🎶
Those unopened rekkids are probably best kept that way. I wonder if any of those obscure country 45s are any good. The channel called Evil Eye 45s and a couple others play 45s like those and they can be purty darn cool.
For my taste, obscure rockabilly and garage are usually good, but hard to find in the wild. Obscure country can be good, but is quite often just terrible.
I just hate when records are in book shelves and hard to go thru... Looked somehow similar than in my forthcoming drifting video... I have learned from you. Not to rush those live. Save and release one per week... So next weeks video is also ready - and that contains few very good finds. Oh, nice hat - I believe you are officially vinyl cowboy now. . Ps I bought last week finnish country album!
Yee-haw 🐴🤠
shop till you drop 😅
I just wanted to prove that I can buy something other than a record! 🤠
I played a thrift store CD yesterday. A New Age thing. It would probably work wonders on a sleepless night.
New Age-y stuff seems pretty common in $1 CD bins. The thrift store I got these from will sometimes have decent CDs but the vinyl is always stuff no one wants. Either no one ever donates good vinyl or someone gets to it before it goes out on the floor.
Beatles boot is cool, and cooler than finding a real 45 imo. I think it was maybe played a lot more than it looks because the 32 is most likely it's spot in the jukebox at Pizza Hut # 142 from 1987 to 1991 in Little Rock, AR. I'm kidding about half of that. Could been any Pizza Hut.😅😂🎉🍕 🍕 🍕
A few years ago I was looking through a bunch of 45s in the back of a record store that were obviously from someone in the jukebox industry. I kept finding multiples of certain records and the generic white sleeve would often have the name of a bar/restaurant written on it, and I did see Pizza Hut on some of them.
He moved TO shreveport. Huh
He flipped a coin: heads West Virginia, tails Shreveport. 🤣
@@RekkidTalk I may just do that today!!
Hi Chris!!!! well done and cool bands, some "big" names and some lesser known...... i was worried how you were going to do Wyoming and the Garfield episode "It must be True" came to mind: Garfiled claims that the state of Wyoming does not exist. In 1789, Arbuckle Vespucci, famous explorer, was working on his map of the United States and left out Alaska and Hawaii, which his cat put on. There was also one gap left out, and there were no more pieces. So the cat wrote in "Wyoming", which was Italian for "no state here", lol.... cheers and be well
I'm more of a Calvin & Hobbes guy, haha.
Is Chris real cowboy?
Absolutely not.
cool,i never heard of the band ,map of wyoming!
or teenage bottle rocket ,either
During the CB radio craze I was in a car with a couple of yokels who were talking to some girls on the CB and they sounded pretty good. Found out they were like 14. Oops.
Breaker breaker.
Perkele is a rude word. Finns like to swear incorporating it into their everyday activities. Not sauna though. That is sacred.
True. Swearing in sauna is sacriledge. Perkele is the most powerful ancient Baltic god and very powerly word for swearing!
@@TommysVinylnaut So I can say "perkele" at work when someone annoys me, as long as I'm not in a sauna or around Finnish speakers, right?
@@RekkidTalk Finnish speakers don't mind occasional Perkele words. But in sauna it is definitely No-No.
I already watch this 2nd time! Ofcourse Terveet kädet is the best Finnish Rock album! Mika moved to Greece, so no more Hungary. Kovaa rasvaa (Hard Fat as you translated) tape was their tour tape in Greece tour. And Tiikeri record should be in every video!
punk punk punk ...
Oh, well this was THE PARAS Finnish Vinyl Tag video! So many familiar records. Your finnish collection is getting bigger and bigger. "Sun ja mun" = "Yours and mine". You could be qualified to the Finnish Vinyl Community Awards 2024 - and I am sure that you are going to win it! I'll hope that you have enjoyed the tapes and 7". You should be able to survive winter with those! Kiitoksia Chris!
Kentucky winter isn't that tough.
Hi Chris!!! Well at least you got the Crusin' series in good condition and for a fair price, now need to find the rest of them..... sucks to hear all the hard work with that Swan record was not what you were expecting, but it was fun to watch thou..... cheers and be well
I got Beatles clickbait with the video's thumbnail, so that was worth a dollar, I think.
Seems that was quite hard work for not alot of interest. Slim pickings here too I just had a clearout last night a bag for chucking to charity and a pile for record fairs next time I do some. I don't have much time of my hands ATM due to work but this week off makes a nice change 😊
I got some cool comps (the Crusin' records) and a crappy Beatles counterfeit, sounds like success to me!
@@RekkidTalk I guess so 👍
I did circulation centre and flea market tour in 4 different city yesterday. I got one Jan & Dean comp for free. Good deal? But did found two items in my want list of schlager... Also two 9 LP box sets of schlager from 50s and 60s.
Are you a punk or a schlager?
@@RekkidTalk Definitely good question. Why I can't be both?
There was Sie Liebt Dich (that might be right) on Swan also. A friend of mine had those Cruisin' albums and taped them for me back when. Pretty cool albums!
Yeah, I want to find the ones I'm missing, if they are cheap!
Who in their right mind puts stickers on vinyl? Bad enough the 45s are unsleeved in true American fashion. Always pick up any volume of Girls In The Garage, they are full of cool obscurity.
Yes, I definitely messed up leaving it behind.
Totally agree with Life's Rich Pageant at No 1! My favourite REM album.
Thanks!
