Also the thing that makes this so beautiful is that fact that jake is always so like cool and calm and austin is just straight up chaotic energy we need more of this
Watched all of the video and got hyped. Seeing someone who builds PCs for a living struggling on modding a retro console was funny. Keep up the good work Jake!
Love this screen mod for the sp, wish I had more time to finish/add mods to some of my consoles. Constantly drawn back to gb macros though. I have a lot of projects right now and have been putting my time elsewhere, it’s good to see someone completing something lol.
Genuinely enjoyed this video. I love the banter and the dry humor. I don't even want the Gameboy lol just wanted to say thank you and I just subscribed so I can't wait to see what's next!
PS4/Xbox One Board are really good practice for using a hot air knife/gun. You can usually find cooked one for pretty cheap. Xbox One is better for practice cause it has more ports to pull off, and the solder just feels better than PS4.
Great video. Really enjoyed the way you guys put this together. Recently modded an SP myself too - rusty soldering skills really on show That one missing screw cover got to me though!
I fixed up a pair of SPs like this last year. They were saved from a recycling center and looked like they were ground into a pile of gravel. Both are re-shelled and have screen replacements like this. They're fantastic little units now!
That was good crossover, worth a watch. Good job on the gameboys, brings back memories of boarding school with my original purple GB advanced (2001) edition. The only game boy in my school at the time.
After we got the screen working we cut the cameras and I ended up working on it completely disassembling and reassembling it for like 20 minutes so I was way more nervous than I looked😅
I loved the SP more, but if I do a GBA then I have to do the classic model because the SP is too small now for my adult hands so it’s awkward to hold and can cause finger cramping.
i like how this is step by step and not time lapse i tried to put a lcd screen on my ags 001 cobalt blue but i swapped it to metallic purple but now it does go on
I was popping out the hinges on my sp when reshelling. My daughter asks me a question, I loose concentration for a second, the hinge pops out and the precision screwdriver went straight through my index finger and out the other side.
You’re right it’s not that dangerous as long as you’re aware of your surroundings. It still is 300 degrees Celsius and will melt your finger and set stuff on fire.
I think the best way to teach people about soldering motherboards is, They're much more durable than you think. I've literally COOKED my motherboards trying to get solder to stick when I first started... You honestly dont need to be that delicate, Its very simple. If you dont know, Dont poke it with the soldering iron. If its not chrome like solder, DONT POKE IT WITH THE SOLDERING IRON. Just get an old junk board out of something random like a channel changer, Practice on that. Stick a bunch of solder to it. Youll get better.
I don't remember who makes it, but there's a USB-C mod that also outputs audio too. You need a Motorola dongle for headphones bc it's an analog signal though.
I've done that before. Been at work for half my shift and suddenly realized I had a dryer sheet stuck in my pants around the knee region. No clue how I missed it for however many hours taht was.
Also the thing that makes this so beautiful is that fact that jake is always so like cool and calm and austin is just straight up chaotic energy we need more of this
I was sweating bullets but I appreciate that you think I was cool and calm😂
@@JakeSimmons I mean understandably. i'm only 10 minutes in and i gotta give austin some credit for his self control so far he hasn't sniffed anything
It's so nice to see almost raw footage of a gameboy building instead of the shortened and editing on Austin's channel, great video!
Yeah you leave a lot out cutting an hour down to 4 minutes but that’s what my videos for!
But I wish the cam was near the action and not on the guys.
I loved seeing Jake be an absolute professional and literally holding Austin's hand from start to finish! Nice job Jake!
SP has always been my favorite. This was really cool to watch. Very chill.
When Austin was reacting to the assembled GBA you looked so proud, awesome to see you hanging with and impressing one of your heroes!
Jake, this build (aside from all the shenanigans) was so amazing! Love the way the builds turned out!

Won't lie the gameboy samus game boy looks amazing and the other mods for the GBA SP is a really amazing to see. Hope to see more.
0:00 how long were u hiding under there!
Great vid, btw ur lighting and colour grading is gorgeous
Haha thanks but I just used Austin’s LUT
been watching Austin for years, definitely following you now too. good video
I love how careful and thoughtful Austin is trying to be in this build and he's just getting absolutely roasted the entire time.
It be like that sometimes
dang austin 19:23 those veins are lit, good job working out. AND I LOVE THE GBA SP!!!!!
I am HOOKED! This was a fun vid to watch with the cutest outro of self-hype I have ever seen. Let's get you more subs!!!
Genuinely enjoyed this video. I love the banter and the dry humor. I don't even want the Gameboy lol just wanted to say thank you and I just subscribed so I can't wait to see what's next!
It’s comments like these that keep me going man thank you so much💜

I got a black SP that had “who are you?” Printed on it many many years ago. Still have and can play it today.
Jake's great for fixing the Gameboy and keeping his cool around that dude with the glasses.
Im loving your videos man! Keep them coming. You are very talented and your mods are out of this world.
My SP is the same age and still works fine. Glad to see it's possible to update it .
That add timing for the sister calling was so perfect 🤩😍
Great video. Really enjoyed the way you guys put this together. Recently modded an SP myself too - rusty soldering skills really on show
That one missing screw cover got to me though!
Yeah idk where it went😂 nobody said anything and I didn’t notice until I was at home editing it
Overclocked Orange decal was amazing on that orange case!
LMAO dryer sheet! I've pulled those out of clothes while at work!
The thumbnail, I legit thought this video was from A E’s channel!
That was the goal!
Same
so much unbridled rage without any overemphasized emotions
i can tell you wanted to tear him apart

I now am Addicted to your channel! Great video man! (I also like your Mustache lol)
That was good crossover, worth a watch.
Good job on the gameboys, brings back memories of boarding school with my original purple GB advanced (2001) edition.
The only game boy in my school at the time.
Great to see this, And great crossover, I've definitely subscribed to this channel
the dichotomy of you and Austin was hilarious😂
this video is raw as hell, earned a sub!
Well you made it, you got the 50k! Congrats, I've enjoyed this video a lot :D
Good choice in color! I went with clear orange too but with black buttons instead. Just did it recently too.
What were you doing under that table at the beginning?
Amazing intro man I love how you were never completely hidden
“This screen is going to be crystal clear”
*plays black and white port of wordle*
That is a beautiful gameboy.. I like the usb-c addition
Dang i wish i was part of the videos. It looked like you guys had alot of fun. Best part was Austin face after every roast
I thought this was Austin’s channel for a sec 😂
Awesome crossover and I love how the Samus Gameboy looks beautiful
Ken has amazing B roll to make it look better!
My favorite part of youtube is finding incredible people and channels through incredible people's channels.
I love finding incredibly nice comments
Definitely going to be checking out your channel from here on out
Such awesome work. The nostalgia is real
I read “the nostalgia is real” in Austin’s voice😂
@@JakeSimmons 🤣🤣
Man, that gameboy is sick
this was the video that inspired me to grab a modded gba sp with a tv out option from jake
Well done on the collab, you have a talent 👍
I wish it was fully opaque, that retro Nickelodeon orange/Nintendo Spice Orange on a Gameboy looks so nice
28:00 "that's it" that's how i felt when backlighting my GBC... turns out i bent the expensive custom ribbon cable just a bit too much x_x
i am impressed by the assembly but i just die laughing from the savagery
Brilliant work Jake, that must have been frustrating lol.
After we got the screen working we cut the cameras and I ended up working on it completely disassembling and reassembling it for like 20 minutes so I was way more nervous than I looked😅
"We have a bunch of different ones with parts missing"
Why is this me though? Lmao
Funnyplaying made this so much easier and I'm so glad because as a beginner I wouldn't had been able to mod mine if it had so much solder to do
I loved the SP more, but if I do a GBA then I have to do the classic model because the SP is too small now for my adult hands so it’s awkward to hold and can cause finger cramping.
Glad the GB is getting love while the pocket/dock has the spotlight
Great video. Great energy! Thanks!
Everybody and their mothers are building their version of ultimate GBA these days.
Roasting Austin because his house burned down…. 😂 that’s some true friendship right there.
Dude your work is amazing, i want one so badly
Lol 90% of stock Game Boy SPs look like they've been dragged behind a truck.
Hey guys this is Austin
Makes me miss my old SP.
The sp can already drink everywhere but the us
THE MOST AMBITIOUS CROSSOVER OF 2022!!!!
This guys logic if logic didn’t start rapping
RGRS represent. Thanks for supporting.
i like how this is step by step and not time lapse i tried to put a lcd screen on my ags 001 cobalt blue but i swapped it to metallic purple but now it does go on
The time machine thing had me DYING 🤣
Austin reminds me of my senior design partner. I hate my senior design partner.
Both Gameboys (giveaway one and one for the vid) were beautiful. props for the work. How long did the Samus one take?
Original game boys are a lot easier to mod so way less time
Great vid man 👍🏾🙏🏽
I love watching Austin be so unknowledgeable with retro consoles
These builds are amazing!
Whoa! I am here for this kind of content!
Logic going crazy on the gameboy sp
I thought he would be a better singer irl
I was popping out the hinges on my sp when reshelling. My daughter asks me a question, I loose concentration for a second, the hinge pops out and the precision screwdriver went straight through my index finger and out the other side.
Oh jeez now I’m gonna think of that every time I do a hinge😳
This was a great video
Austin is just so bad at the soldering its funny
14:17 unless you are soaked in gasoline soldering is not that dangerous. Worst thing is you get a bit burned that's it.
You’re right it’s not that dangerous as long as you’re aware of your surroundings. It still is 300 degrees Celsius and will melt your finger and set stuff on fire.

This is why we call him "The Torch".
Glad to be new subscriber man✌️
next year it will be able to drink
me: *Laugh in German*
Love it here! 25k sub soon 💪🏾GG
I didn’t even know their were giveaways, was just watching it for the sp
Great video! I follow you from Argentina I found you after a video you made with Elliot.
Great content!
The greatest Game Boy was the Color. SP is nice, I like the whole line, but never trust anything with hinges not named RAZR
Dude retro remastered is fully sold out of everything gameboy. Please restock
Gotta catch the live streams. They sell as soon as I list them!
@@JakeSimmons damn ok for sure, send the link.
@@airjsn9769 just subscribe lmao streams Mondays and Wednesdays at noon pacific
@@JakeSimmons ohh for sure, I thought it would be on twitch.
@@airjsn9769 ahh I understand. I just like to have it all on one channel
The gameboy advance sp has a special place in my heart and it was nice seeing it after so long
Guy in the white was standoffish as hell 😂
Game Boy Respecter Austin Evans
thats an amazing custom Metroid gameboy
I don't remember who makes it, but there's a USB-C mod that also outputs audio too. You need a Motorola dongle for headphones bc it's an analog signal though.
Yeah that’s the downside with the usb c mods. Most eliminate the headphone output feature
It was the dryer sheet for me
This is a phenomenal video
The hinges are the worst to remove. I broke my shell and cut my finger on the brittle plastic.
Awesome content broseph!!!! And have your seen the slate????
broseph its my latest video
I have a ags001 and no previous nodding experience. What would you suggest I try and any websites that you recommend for parts?
What are those hard shell cases he had them in at the beginning of the video? Pelicans?
Awesome video on teaching someone how to mod the GBA.
Is this what marriage looks like?
I've done that before. Been at work for half my shift and suddenly realized I had a dryer sheet stuck in my pants around the knee region. No clue how I missed it for however many hours taht was.
I’m glad some people know to stay until the end
