    I have a Cannon Rebel XS. I kept getting communications errors which I could usually bypass by turning the camera off and back on again. Then one day the lens just froze up. Nothing would work. I cleaned contacts. I switched lens, but nothing was working. I ran across this video and followed step by step and IT WORKS!!! Amazing! Thank you!

    What worked for me was to avoid the narrowest zoom setting on my 11-16mm lens (16mm) - it wasn’t this fix, cleaning the lens contacts, or several other fixes on other TH-cam’s - just in case that helps anyone else who hasn’t had success with these tips (which truly HAVE helped a lot of people, so thankyou btw)

    Thank you Dominic; I had all but given up with my Tamron lens. This is the 2nd one with an Err01 message and after taking the 1st one back I thought I had seen the end of it! But I just got the message again yesterday with a new lens! (Had the 1st not even a month, and this one less than two!!) so far your trick has worked! Fingers crossed it lasts! ;) thank you! x

    Thanks for the video. Have had this same issue on-and-off with my 60D and Tamron 17-55 since day one and cleaning the lens hasn't seemed to fix the problem. My only solution was turn the camera on and off or take the battery out. Eventually the camera would right itself... Anyhow just followed your steps - keeping my fingers crossed on future shoots.

    You are a genius!!! thank you a million. Why does it do that in the first place. And why does this technique work to fix the problem??? just curious

  • @zJoriz
    @zJoriz 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks a lot! I got this halfway my vacation, so was frustated quite a bit. I need to put quite some force on my Sigma zoom lens to turn (zoom) it, I though that was the problem. When I push the whole lens back clockwise again after zooming, the error appears less often. But that can't be good for the hardware, so I hope the sequence you described will help next time.
    Since you were able to reproduce the error, I assume it does resurface every now and then?

    This way unfortunately didn't work with my camera (450d+ tamron 17-55). But I found another working solution: Turn on the camera, then shoot a photo at highest F value, than shoot again a photo but this time at lowest F value. It really worked in my case! I hope it can help somebody ;)

    Thanks for the info. Everything works for me right up until I lock the lens in place, then the dreaded Err 01 message. I have tried cleaning the contacts and still no luck. The pins are nice and springy, so maybe there is a problem with the cables. I've got another lens contact part on order and will try replacing that.

    Thanks, My father's Canon 5d Mark II had the same problem. Although the lens is Canon 24-105mm and not Tamron, and the err 01 only appears when it's in between 10% to 90% of the zoom. So you either take a photo with the zoom set to maximum or non to be able to use the camera.
    But after your solution it's much better, at least it only appears in about 10% of the zoom and only sometimes and not always like before
    Thanks for sharing this, you've been a great help

    I'm having the same error with my Rebel XSi... unfortunately your trick didn't work for me either. I've tried cleaning the contacts- nothing... I've heard about an internal battery that can be changed (haven't actually looked into that one yet- but read about it)... Someone was saying replacing that worked for the same error. Another issue I've heard is people take off one lens with stabilization on... then put on another lens that has it set to on and it screws something up. Anyway- still working on figuring out a solution... it's the 18-55 lens- my other one works fine.

    Worked for a few shots, then Tamron continued to fail. On my lens, worked only at 5.6 aperture! (T1i, Tamron 70-300mm). Shot all day at 5.6 - and fail at all other apertures!
    The problems seems to be associated to the lens, when they fail, it sounds like the aperture blades are sticking after the shot - not a clean "click". Sometimes it fails on aperture blades before the shot, sometimes after the shot - turning off the camera and back on will give me another chance at another shot/try.
    Not sure if it is a coincidence, but after trying out the lens in Macro mode, it has worked for the last 10 shots.....

    This worked until I locked the lense back. Once I locked the lense back, the message returned. I have canon rebel t4i and wondering if there is any other steps or solution?

    • @bwzffgh7
      @bwzffgh7 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's because with the lens not fully locked, the camera will behave as if there is no lens attached at all (or a non-compliant lens) so it will make no attempt to communicate with the lens. The error 01 only occurs if a lens is fully locked but malfunctioning.

    It was weird. It did not work for me either. But what I did was have the camera on on auto with the lens on and the lens on manual and started playing with the ring by zooming in and overturning the ring 25 percent and then taking a picture. Zooming out all the way and zooming in completely and turning the ring 50 percent and took another picture. I did the same steps until I got to 150 percent and the camera lens started working. Hope this helps.

    I have 2 Canon DSLRs - I get the error message with T3i. This did not work. Put the ultrasonic lens on my old Rebel. Did this and no error message. However it won't work with the T3i. Also, the viewfinder is very dark with both, in fact I can barely see through it that it is so dark. Originally I found the problem combined with a flashing red light. I had switched my T3i at that time from video to Av. The look through the viewfinder was several circles in the view?? Did not get the error message until several pics had been taken.

    I bought a Canon T3i body and intended to use my lenses my old film Rebel camera but, as per your demonstration, continue to get the error message as per above. I tried your technique but it didn't fix my camera (by not fully engaging the lens to the camera and taking some shots). Could it be that the lenses though Canon Rebel lenses.... that they are not made for a digital camera although they fit just fine and sometimes I even get a great shot. What a waste of money. What to do? Sell the body and possibly hand the problem over to the next person? Have purchased Canon 70D with own lenses now. Groan. marcie

    This error occurs with my 50mm f/1.8 very often, especially while taking photos in quick succession. should your method fix this permanently?

    Hi, I tried dat demonstration on my Mark III, it works only if I don't lock my lens (TAMRON 10-24 also)

    This didn't work on my 100D and rechipped 500mm sigma that worked on a T3i. BUT, when I set the camera to manual mode and entered the aperture as low as it could go (5.6 despite that the lens was a 7.2) suddenly all functions were restored and no error 01 anymore! The camera reads the 7.2 as a 5.6 anyway to allow autofocusing. Seems I lost aperture control but all else seems to be working.

    Thanks so much! right as i was animating a shot, it kept on saying there was an error. I probably wouldn't have been able to fix it. Thanks again!
