First off, I am a HUGE Eagles fan!
I was fortunate enough to see them play all of their hits (and then some) in Toronto, 1994.
I've seen well over 50 spectacular concerts including Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Def Leppard, Dire Straits, Boston, just to name a few, but the Hell Freezes Over Tour is definitely *the* best concert I have ever experienced! The lighting wasn't over the top, (and rightfully so), but the *SOUND* was absolutely incredible. Even though the concert was held at an outdoor stadium, it was like hearing a $1,000,000 stereo in your bedroom! I have never heard anything like it (before or since).
So ....... I love, love, LOVE Randy's contribution to the Eagles (RIP sir). Randy had exceptional writing skills, was a very good bass player (not great, but far better than average), had an incredible soprano voice that most female vocalists can only dream of having, *"HOWEVER"* to say that _" without Randy, the Eagles would never have been as successful"_ and that he was the _"heart"_ of the band, is simply ridiculous!
Meisner, Leadon, Felder and Walsh are quintessential members of the group, no doubt. They all deserve accolades for sure but c'mon, everyone knows that both Henley and Fry hold the honor of being the *heart* of the Eagles!
Now with hat said, there's tons of info out there that says they also hold the honor of being complete *assholes* to say the least.

Timothy B. Schmitt is a class act for his gracious speech about Randy Meissner. That was an awesome thing to do. Randy was one of the founding members of the Eagles & they should have treated him the same, if you're not feeling that good one night then change the songs around to help a good man who's feeling down. That was the thing that kept the Eagles from being one of the best bands ever, the constant bickering & fighting over dumb things that could have & should have been easily resolved. Rest in peace Randy Meissner, for you were a great musician !

Excellent point about Timothy, and excellent point about being treated better - especially during the 90's. Don and Glenn should not have forgotten that Randy helped put the band on the map; perhaps without him, the band may have gone unnoticed and never would have grown in fame. Sadly, it's been obvious over the years that Don and Glenn were a bit more greedy than the rest of the band members, and clearly, they both put their egos in front of the band's best interests. I love the Eagles music, always have, but can't respect behavior and attitudes of Don and Glenn. Despite all founding members agreeing that each member had an equal role and share in the band, Don and Glenn had other ideas, and that's an honest shame.

Randy and Bernie were the anchors that steadied the band...Glen was the high-powered engine that kept them running and Henley love him or hate him was the singer who made their music complete. The Eagles
At this time, we need to celebrate Randy not rehash all the drama that was a part of his life...he was a sweet and gentle soul...

Take it to the limit is still one of my favorite songs of all time. I got to see Randy in a small bar in NW Nebraska about fifty miles from his hometown. It was somewhere around 1983-85, he came in with the band, unannounced, didn't say his name or anything, but after a couple of songs, I recognized him, when I got up and went over to try and talk to him, I was stopped by two huge dudes in black leather
jackets, they acknowledged that it was him, but I couldn't talk to him or ask for an autograph, he played the old kinks song "Lola", and people went wild. When word started getting around town with the locals, and more and more people started showing up, he quietly left out the backdoor by the bathrooms with his crew. It was the closest I got to seeing the Eagles. ❤

I moved from Ky to LA in 1979 I was gigging at the Disneyland Hotel four nights a week when I blew a speaker in my Musicman bass amp. Little did I know a good friend of mine who worked at LA Recording Studios knew Randy. I mentioned I needed a couple of speakers to replace the speakers in my amp. My friend said let me make a phone call and a couple of minutes later he returned and informed me he had found a couple of nice speakers for me said come on we will go pick them up. The next thing I knew he had taken me to Meisners home. I absolutely couldn’t believe it. We knocked on the door and Randy opened up telling us to come on in. We sat around and talked for awhile and Randy looked at me and said I understand you need a couple of speakers for your amp I said yes sir I do he went into another room and returned with two orange frame Guass bass speakers and said here these are on me. One of my greatest memories of life. I wish I had held on to those speakers.

It took me 2 months to see and read anything about Randys career, from the beginning till the end, many interviews with people from all the bands he was playing with, including his private life by documents of his first wife Jennifer. It' an interesting story. My own conclusion: he was a very special man with a strong and beautiful character. He was the most beloved man I've ever seen. Inside and outside. I never knew that before. There were some jeaulous people around him in his Eagle time ( like Don Henley and Glenn Frey. ) but Randy was the best singer with his special vocal voice. Amazing! Their first serious tour started in the Netherlands, it was a great succes and they became popular.
Finally Randy followed his heart and went his own way with all the ups and downs. That proves his personality. I'ts difficult to know he went seriously ill 😢. He is back where he was born in Scottsbluff! RIP RANDY. ❤

Timothy B. Schmitt is a Great Man he didn't let Struggles and Fights amongst other Eagles Members effect his Perception or Views. He Cherished his Time with Fellow Artist Randy Meisner Whom Had a Similar View of Performing Neither Sought Nor Wanted the Spotlight both Had A Love For playing and being a Key part of the Band as a Whole. The Eagles Just Weren't the Same with loss of Randy Meisner & Don Felder two Huge Geniuses of the Original Eagles ! Hotel California Wouldn't have Ever been Made if not For Don Felder's Multiple Contributions to this Song Starting With 100,Percent of the Melody Writing Secondly He Came up With The Double Neck Guitar Couples to Dual Yeah n Amps & Foot Pedal to toggie Between Amps to Get the Same Sound in Live Performances as Studio Versions which Were accomplished by Multiple Recordings Spliced &'Played together. This True Genius if Don Felder is underated and not Given the Respect Truly Due Him in my Opinion

Sometime around 1980 I was driving to North Hollywood park on sunday to play softball with a bunch of other , in town, musicians. Informal, a weekly event. Where I grew up. On a side street I noticed a 51 ford coupe with a 4 sale sign. Stopping to look at it, I noticed a stunning 57 Corvette in the driveway next door. A guy wiping it down. Walking over I remarked how nice it car was. We talked a bit and he offered me a ride! SURE! We drove around and got on the Hollywood Fway and he opened it up a bit. Back at the house, I got out and thanked him, introduced myself, "Hi, Im Tom, Hi Tom him Randy, shook hands and left. Later, im thinking, Randy? RANDY? Holy shit that was Meisner! DUH! Did I feel stupid! Im a huge fan and I missed it. Im ALSO a Bass Player!!!! Some years later I found he was friends with my cuzin Bray Ghiglia, who played in the Roberts Meisner Band and with Firefall. But by then Randy had become so reclusive, so many bad things happened, his wife dying etc, I could never connect to have THAT conversation I would have loved. Thats my story. You can see me with Batdorf & Rodney on u tube "Batdorf & Rodney at Kent stage Part 1 and 2 if interested. Thats my story!
