Julianne Moore's part was originally going to be much larger. In the original script, there was supposed to be a romance between her character and Kimble. This was scrapped when it was decided that it just didn't feel right for the recently bereaved Kimble to "shack up" with someone else

    • @Flix2Us

Yeah, that makes sense. I still wish she had been included in the plot a bit more.

Has mom never seen the original tv series? That surprises me. In the series David Jansen played the Kimble character and he was on a train that crashes and that’s how he escaped. Good series and good retelling for this movie. A good funny movie with Joe Pataliano is Midnight Run which stars Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin. You guys would love it. Yes watch US Marshalls

But it’s true! The US Marshals are charged with arresting fugitives, not trying to figure out if they are guilty or not. The mom had it right. Kimball was convicted in a court so that means, legally, he is guilty. It takes some legal action to declare him innocent. Whether the marshal thinks it is proper or not, he has to arrest him.

The original TV series ran from 1963 to 1967 and was the first TV series to have a final episode that tied up the whole story. In that storyline Lt. Girard was not a US Marshal but he was the detective who investigated the original murder and, convinced of Kimball's guilt, chased him all around the country for four years (giving the opportunity for Richard Kimball to get involved in a different story every week and solve peoples' problems and help people fix their lives). Every show ended with Girard almost catching Kimball till the final episode when he catches up to Kimball just as Kimball catches up to the one armed man and Girard finally finds out that Kimball is innocent. It was the most watched finale episode for years, and is still in 3rd place behind "M*A*S*H" and "Cheers".

My mom said that she saw an interview once with the guy that played the agent in the TV series and he said that throughout the making of the show and after it ended he would have people come up to him yelling at him to stop hunting Kimball and that he was innocent. He had to try and explain to them that it was all a make believe show.

Director Andrew Davis has a pretty sweet resume of action hits, with The Fugitive being the crown jewel. He is a talented writer, cinematographer, director and producer. You should check out two Steven Seagal films: Under Siege (1992-one of my favs) and Above The Law (1988), both directed by Davis. Under Seige is basically Die Hard on the USS Missouri, with another great Tommy Lee Jones performance. The earlier Above The Law is simply classic Steven Seagal. Hope you watch them soon. 👍

One of the best adventure films of the 1990s! It’s also one of the great Chicago films, doing a terrific job of showing off not just the more touristy areas, but also the neighborhoods like where he gets the basement apartment from the Polish lady. Polish immigrants just like her were a big part of the city at the time-I worked just down the street from Little Warsaw at Belmont and Central.

This was a crazy film to make. It was in the process of being rewritten as they were filming, so a lot of Tommy’s dialogue was improvised. He didn’t like the outhouse/henhouse bit and would only do it twice. It’s also probably why Julianne Moore has such a small part, it was probably written out.

First time I saw this was in a barbershop after school. I watched this and Only The Strong while waiting my turn. Got home minutes to eight to an earful! Good times.
This was Julianne Moore's first movie. I think her next was Assassins with Sylvester Stallone and Antonio Bandaras (could be wrong).
No CGI was used when making this. The train jumping scene was cleverly done, re: Corridor Crew breakdown! All practical!
I think it was sixteen Harrison Fords they tossed over the dam for the right amgle.
The original tv series was cool too! I remember watching reruns after church Sunday mornings!
US Marshalls was good too. Awesome sequel!
Oh yeah! The parade scene! Tommy's crew was told to seek and Harrison was told to hide. They were genuinely playing the game and Ford won!
Moore's character was supposed to have a bigger scene but it was cut. I think she was supposed to play a new love interest.

This movie is based on the popular 1963-1967 TV show starring the handsome actor, David Janssen and it in turn was based on the true 1954 murder case of Dr. Sam Sheppard's pregnant wife in Bay Village, Ohio, an affluent suburb of Cleveland. I was born in 1953 & grew up in Cleveland & of course heard (overheard more likely, even when I was supposed to be playing in another room; amazing how far one's ears & hearing can stretch) re-telling & opinions about the case. Harrison Ford was not originally cast for the role of Dr. Richard Kimble. Instead, a number of actors were auditioned for the part, including Alec Baldwin, Nick Nolte, Kevin Costner, and Michael Douglas. Nick Nolte in particular felt he was too old for the role (though he is only a year older than Ford). According to Harrison Ford in a 2023 interview with James Hibberd of The Hollywood Reporter, he pursued the role of Richard Kimble due to his liking to play characters who aren't like him in addition of his desire to grow a beard or a moustache for a role, which then Warner Bros. chairman Robert A. Daly often denied due to paying to see his face unchanged. Although the role of Sam Gerard went to Tommy Lee Jones, Gene Hackman and Jon Voight were both considered for the role. The character of Dr. Charles Nichols was recast for Jeroen Krabbé after the original actor who landed the role, Richard Jordan, fell ill with a brain tumor. Jordan died three weeks after the film's release.
