    I’m not half the RC pilot you are, but I’m licensed in full scale helicopters and small planes. I would consider the application of thrust reverse to be a post landing decision. On short final my only thoughts would be go/no go, and I wouldn’t even think about that reverse switch until all 3 wheels are on the ground. Thanks for another awesome video, it’s amazing to see that thing land in such a short distance, and it certainly makes the devil on my shoulder say BUY IT!!! (From your links of course) 😎

    Just set up my Viper 90mm with NX10. Your Reverse Thrust setup with Mix was extremely helpful. Currently I am only using the BIND button for Reverse but with the Mix I don't have to bother with the throttle.......it is always full throttle but it is momentary so I can reverse WITHOUT using throttle. Good video. Thanks..........

    Thanks Brian. Wish I had watched this before launching my new timber into the corn field after I had landed. Pilot Fatigue would of saved me for sure. Luckily not too bad and now all programmed in to save me next time. Like you say it isn't natural to apply a load of throttle on landing as you can never be sure if that switch is in the correct position. 😉

    I built an F-16 years ago then EDF’s were really just starting in the electric planes. This one war powered by a pusher configuration. I was powered by a Himax 2000 KV motor with a 6X 5.5 pusher prop, very fast on 3S 2100 mah packs. I think the WS was about 22+ inches. Not real big but what a blast to fly and belly land in the grass. Wish I had more video on that plane.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For me, it's not so much knowing if it's on (reverse) or off (forward), but the mechanical steps to move the throttle sick forward full throttle when landing. With practice, this would be a non issue, I suppose, but in the mean time, we've worked out a simple "pilot fatigue" setting.

    My advise would be never hit reverse until you're 100% down and rolling... the idea here is to shorten the roll... looked like you hit it as soon as it touched down on the second bounce which was obviously a bad one. As for the gear... it's amazing! Can't believe no other damage was done! That hit hard! My maiden landing i missed the road and landed in tall grass which was enough to bend the nose gear axel. Little tough love and she's back at it. Got 3 packs in yesterday and had 3 great landings! She's smooth! Oh, I do like the 3 position switch with the one having throttle mixed in.

      I've never used a 6000mAh, so have no idea. I used 5000mAh, 7000mAh, and maybe a 4000mAh. I'd go with whatever you have, since there's room for a large battery, OR batteries, you can pretty much decide what you want for getting the weight far enough back to get the CG where you want it for flare on landings.

    Acc to my calculation one should never apply reverse thrust to assist in landing in any way shape or form, as it won't help grease landing, instead will make plane to plop on runway.
    Once landing has been fully established, reverse thrust or a parachute is to be deployed only to reduce the rollout.
