  • Hello and welcome to Steel Picking. In this video, I show you a turn that has Mike Johnson and John Hughey elements in it. This lesson will show you licks of both players within the turn. As I have stated in the past, my purpose is not to teach how to sound like a certain player but to learn licks and phrases that we can incorporate into our own style.
Hope you enjoy the lesson, and it helps you all become better pickers!

    EXTREMELY Thorough.
Thank you for your patience in having to slow it all down to show us newbies.
This will be remembered as my week 2 Oct.2017 brain melter!
Thank you so much for your help Aaron.

This is such a gorgeous piece I can't imagine anymore not being hooked on it. First time I heard it it was jaw dropping. Right up there with many of the best classics. Just beautiful. Thanks Aaron

    Wonderful . turn brother!
Thanks for breaking down a mike johnson turn and making it so simple. It's one thing to show someone, it's quite another to play it step by step and break it down. As always, great job and thank you Aaron!

This lesson is a steeler’s delight. So many versions going all the way back to Lefty. Johnson really freshened it up but you took the time to break this really great solo down for us players. Learning this lesson was a real pleasure.Playing my version over the years was getting kinda stale but your lesson puts me up to speed for a classic tune. Thanks again my friend.

Hi Aaron, that's interesting I had a completely different take on that lic though I have never seen how Mike plays it but I am using pedals and levers and my first 12 notes are between the 3rd fret and the 7th then to the 12th.You have given me another way to play it and I think your way sounds better ..... many thanks..

Aaron I do not have the one n two string raise that you talk about but I do have a half tone raise on my one string so I just slide up one fret and engaged that halftone raise the only substitution I can figure out for that change just for people who don't have that change if they don't know
