The wood shingles are such a pain! If you want an asphalt shingle look, cut strips of sand paper and spray paint them. It looks and feels awesome!

Super good video, thank you! And I love your normal grown up woman voice. Very watchable. Very educational.

Please post more of these! My friend is working on the same beach house and I am working on a roof for my farmhouse. Your video has been very helpful!

Me too - I've been slacking this week on it!!! The shingles weren't as bad to do as I expected.

Thanks for the glue recommendation. I was not looking forward to my shingles possibly curling :)

Not great for them to curl and they are pretty thin

Thank you for your video! I have a question about the short pieces that you line each edge with. Do you lay the full shingle directly over to cover them completely? Or do you leave them exposed? I'm not understanding their purpose. Thank you 🙂

I'm building a birdhouse, so it's going to be outdoors....I'm going to try titebond 2 & seal it all with UV protection sealant. Not sure if itll last the elements

What was the brand of dye you used for the shingles? Not sure what to get.

I'm working on the Vermont one. But, on the shngles. Did it take 4 days like the directions seem to imply on the dye process?

I'm prepping to build a dollhouse for my niece. What did you use to die the shingles. Whatever you used looked red, but the shingles look dark gray. Is there something I can use to do a light to mid gray shingle?

Have a few pieces, but looking forward to making quite a few things myself! Hopefully that will also help me use up scrap fabric.

You should have mentioned how long you let the shingles set in the dye

I've had much better luck using alcohol dyes from Dick Blick art stores. They are inexpensive, work quickly and dry like alcohol (quick). They are available in many colors. I've even used the dye instead of paint on the outside of some surfaces. If the colors are too bright or too dark, you can thin with vodka!
