I love to hear from people at these niche labels. To hear their perspectives. To hear the lost film projects they are pursuing. And to hear how the industry is adapting and evolving in the current time and landscape.
I remember you mentioned possible future episodes of the podcast, you may have other media lovers on. I am not working per se at a “major studio”. But I have been a collector since the mid 90’s and have somewhere around 16,000 movie discs now. As well as having my own little music and video label and working for the summer at a big film and music duplicator in the mid 90’s. It would be cool to see you do some interviews of fellow film lovers in the future, regardless. But I would have a lot of fun discussing physical media with you at some point. And some of the reasons why I have such a massive collection at this point in my life. 🤷‍♂️

I love these conversations, Jeff. As someone who has made shows and movies for streaming services, a big worry of mine is that they might just disappear one day. And my children (and their children) might never catch a glimpse at our family's strange legacy. It's really incredible what VS does; goes far beyond film preservation.

This was a fascinating talk. I'm ready for the Lost Picture Show. I'm planning a week long marathon for it.

Top shelf guest and episode, Jeff. Oscar is one of the most interesting people in the boutique realm. Plus, he looks like a hip Edward Norton.

Cool stuff Jeff! I pre-ordered this set as soon as I saw it on their website. I have no idea if I'll like all or any of the films but I think it's a good price for 10 films. I have been getting a lot from Vinegar Syndrome lately and I can't wait to get this set.

Another aspect of lost media, other than film reels or digital files being destroyed, is the world of dubbed media. I've been interested for many years about movies and shows dubbed to Swedish, which is my native language. I do prefer watching all media with it's original audio, but also think it's an important part of history and it's important that these dubbs still exist for the ones that want or need them to enjoy the media. In Sweden it's mostly kids content that gets dubbed, but a lot has been lost, or is at least kept under lock with no possibility to extract it. Several old Disney movies has been re-dubbed and if the original dub exists anywhere in the world it had never been commercially available since it was in cinemas in the 30's-60's. A lot of kids tv-shows was only ever aired on TV, never released on VHS or DVD, meaning that, as re-runs of those stop, we loose those dubs as well. I know of some Swedish private initiatives that collect old home recorded video cassette tapes to try an perserve this aspect of our media history, and some has emerged again since Disney+ started in Sweden (though some has also been re-dubbed over there), but a lot will probably never be heard ever again.

Just to highlight the subject of slasher films where the killer changes the mask four each kill... the 70s had The Redeemer and 80s has Terror Train , much like Violated!

Hi Jeff. At some point could you make a video along the lines of top 10 movies that should be on 4k but aren't? I've been sorting through my collection and can't believe Se7en, Fight Club and Oh Brother Where Art Thou? aren't on 4k yet!

This is super cool. Not really my kind of movies, so I will let this one go the ones that will love it more than me, but it's seriously cool anyway.

Love physical media but don't like spending 40, 50 to 90$ for a 4k movie or box set

No Country For Old Men isn't on 4k either. Not in UK at least.
