Great discussion on mindset and situational awareness. I had a recent incidence of this at a local mall. Foot pursuit of an individual who ran by me and instead of being my usual aware self I had my head buried in my phone while waiting on a family member. It took me about 3-4 seconds to realize what was happening because I didn't seeing it coming by being aware of my surroundings. You can have all of the training in the world but if you are not situationally aware you will wind up behind the curve. Can't wait for the book.
Excellent. And so true about freezing up and disassociation when in trauma or stress. I know first hand what that is like. It is a strange thing when it happens. And there IS that guilt that goes with it. I am grateful that it is being talked about because it really needs to be. Thanks for another great podcast. Looking forward to Mike's book.

Great wisdom. There are always connections to be made between skills and live's many events in general. Anatomy can be applied, in principle, to the automobile, the computer, the hinge, etc. We often create things, whether intentionally or not, based on our understanding of the human body and it's many parts with their respective functions in relation to each other. This is part of an ancient body of wisdom passed down for millenia. "Know thyself" means a whole lot more than before, you know? I find that amazing.
Good to see Mike back on. I've been following him, and Fieldcraft Survival since I saw him on Shawn Ryan and on here. Lead me to Kevin Owens and some others. I really like Mike and Fieldcraft's message. Ive since put together some badass first aid/trauma kits for my Wife, Daughter, and myself. And I now give them as gifts to Family members. All with North American Rescue TQ's purchased from Fieldcraft. Part of the gift is teaching them how to use a TQ, and helping them put it in their vehicle so they can get to it if they ever need it, and cant move much...
Two words: corruption, and treason. Treason on the part of the ruling dictators who are labeling their own critically thinking, intelligent and capable citizens as "domes tick terr or wrists". The corruption knows no bounds
If you actually look at the specifics of the situation, specifics that Mike showed on his own podcast, they never labeled him a domestic terrorist, and Mike dramatically misrepresented the situation (and continues to do so). He's trying to manufacture outrage. They labeled American Contingency as having ties to MVE, which was accurate, because some of its members were targeting FBI agents homes and coordinating extremist activities together, and Mike himself actually reported these individuals to law enforcement. Mike himself was never named, nor did the FBI ever accuse him of domestic terrorism, publicly or privately. Mike has created this narrative and really run with it, and its just not accurate, not based on what he's shown us.
@@davidoconnor1773 Mike is the guy you want on your team, full stop. Personally I find it disappointing how much he has leaned into certain narratives to promote his business interests. Some of the stuff he says these days is at best, uninformed.
@@the_secret_squirrel Maybe when he was enlisted, but now he seems like a liability. Even the people on his team (Fieldcraft Survival) don't want to be on his team, pretty much everybody has left the company in the last 18 months, and most of them abruptly. Dude talks about the importance of mental health constantly, but doesn't seem to be anything about his, and he just seems to get more and more erratic and detached. Last thing I saw from him a couple of days ago was about how he was homeschooling his boys and teaching them to operate as a 2-man fire team, because that was "the most important thing". His twins are 4.
I’m a big proponent of barefoot training. Moving through rough terrain barefoot is big part of the advanced MovNat training I do and teach. Not that I won’t wear (minimalist) shoes, but I have the capability to move without them in case the situation ever arises. Just another skill to have. 💪🏼👣
Interesting. I've never formally trained that way, but even as a kid I'd make it a point to walk barefoot on hot asphalt, concrete, gravel, and other rough surfaces until my soles were toughened up. I was poor growing up and knew that I wouldn't be getting new shoes very often, so I did it to be able to go anywhere without shoes, even on asphalt on a 100+ degree day.
I can only say that however the idea came into your head, understand that if you run a sliver or hunk of shrapnel, cactus, razor wire, broken glass, or sliver of wood into those feet, not only did you just take yourself out, you won't be able to hump your ruck and will be of no use to your team......yes team!
My sister in law on 4days ago got into a4 wheeler accident and received a deep gash on her forearm to close to her elbow so I had to apply a makeshift tourniquet above the elbow using a tee shirt and metal rod. I learned this in a Combat Lifesaver class I took in Basic training. I was able to stop the blood loss. But it was the lady that allowed us to get into her car so she could take us to the hospital that saved her life! So many people just drove past us! Thank god the lady stopped!
Great podcast fellas .I been following your guys content for sometime. I took the tccc with sheepdog response. High-quality well done by another bonifide 18x Matt Smith. Loved it .I have no doubt. Field craft is every bit as on par. What all you men are doing, and many more taking your high-level skill sets passing them on to civilians to make a more resilient, liberty loving, and liberty capable society. Jokos doing exactly same. In the realm of leadership discipline and character
Losing a soldier that our country invested millions in training over a $20 piece of cloth and a stick isn't just a tragedy, it's a symptom of just how far our country has fallen. We went from taking care of the small things (like making sure every medic had an adequate suppl of tourniquets) to trying to take care of huge things (like climate change) that we have no business interfering in. That being said, knowing that there's men like Mike and Jocko out there, trying to change the world for the better gives me hope that our country will be great again. America needs more men and women that think like the both of you.
I gotta get that book. My former stepdad taught me a lot of what was said here when I was a teen. Sure he's an a-hole but kind of set me up for the reality of life. Glad to see Glover and Willink talking again I can listen to them for HOURS. Get their books guys, really solid stuff.
A very educational podcast, loved it. Guys I have no idea how it is in the US, especially since unfortunately, the US is the country with mass shootings all the time, but I had an idea watching this. Why don't schools hire veterans especially the ones with special training, have one at least who is a permanent employee who is there in case of any disaster, especially a shooting and can also give a one week workshop to every class each year, the class can include al types of survival knowledge they have through their military training. Honestly it is a better use of their training than active duty.

Where they are talking about testing yourself is so true. You should always know what you can and can't do. I was always in pretty good shape because I was active. When I broke my back, neck, shoulder, ribs, breast plate, collarbone, knee, ankle and foot (motorcycle accident) I had several surgeries and found I lost the ability to do most things the way I had been doing them. Because of this I started to push myself to exercise and become much more physical again. Now I am turning 65 and I am finding that because of age I can't do as much as what I did only a few years ago. What neither of you have talked about is the need to adapt to physical changes and sometimes on the fly. I wanted to get back into karate, I realized I didn't have the same power I once did. I went to a school and saw things that looked fake, as people were throwing each other and using joint locks and gravity to subdue the attacker. What I was seeing looked like it had to be fake. I asked if they could show me a few things so I could see how this actually worked. They didn't take me to the point of the throw but to the point where I was off balance and they could complete the technique with literally no effort. The joint locks were also required very little effort to inflict severe pain (and damage) if necessary. The key is timing not strength. Jiujutsu and Hapkido are the two styles I study now. I am only 5'7" I have learned how to be able to throw a man 6'2" weighing 260 pounds with literally no real effort on my part. Being ready and practicing is the key to being able to defend yourself. I don't think the things I used in Kyokushin Kai Kan Karate would serve me nearly as well today as it did years ago. Prior to starting this class I had major rotator cuff repairs done on three of the muscles, one of which was severed. I couldn't do a single push up when I start class but now I am up to 30. At my age if I don't use it I know I will lose it. Many people my age cannot do half of what I can do physically. I am not bragging here. I am saying I don't want to be a target. Bad guys always look for someone weaker than them to attack. The exercise I get and the practice have given me enough confidence to know that I at least have a chance to defend myself enough to get away. I am also fortunate enough to have a school where a Sensei and another student were both inducted into the International martial arts hall of fame. The main thing I have learned through these physical problems is to keep moving forward both physically and mentally to keep from going backwards.gth. Jiujutsu and Hapkido are the two styles I study now. I am only 5'7" I have learned how to over the past 6 monthonths
Building resilience through going internal. I’ve gotten out of shape but last year, I was a few years out of the infantry and I would randomly pick up my kit and go running around the block. I’d stop at a certain point, gain my breath and start pushing again. The infantry taught me, NO ONE FEELS SORRY FOR YOU, DONT FEEL SORRY FOR YOURSELF. This is REAL LIFE. You gotta get yourself together. You need to push yourself as hard as possible and reflect on where you believe your limit is. My brother used to say “I know I could go back into the Marine Corps any day, because I’ve met my limit and I know where that line is”. I’ve gotten close to my breaking point so as I’m maneuvering, I’m going to maneuver slightly slower than my breaking point because getting to the fight isn’t the end of the mission, you have to fight and walk back. Thanks GySgt Cain. That quote broke the infantry wide open in less than 10 seconds for me.
You certainly have to be thinking even before you get out about how you are going to carry all the weight of future missions by yourself. You also can't call CAS or CASEVAC.
Man it IS hard to find a group of guys/friends who are willing to check you and challenge you. I can count on one hand people I could contact who would give me an honest assessment and account. Even less who would be willing to outright challenge me to better myself.
The sad thing is that Echo had a legitimate question and the answer is no, you do not have to be in the Navy to be an Admiral, you can just be in the Public Health Service, they have the same rank structure as the Navy, are part of the Uniformed Services, and have several Admirals. The Surgeon General is an Admiral. Vice Admiral Vivek Murthy
Last two times I wore flip flops outside I got into a fight with a dude in the hood and he wouldn't fight me in the grass, I kicked them off and went to kicking. Fractured both of his wrists but chewed an avocado worth of skin off of my foot(in the screets). More recently had to save my German Shephard from two attacking pitbulls. Pepper sprayed them three times and then slipped in it and speared myself in the inner thigh. I don't do flip flops no mo' lol. I served in Baghdad in '05. Those EFPs were no joke. Great show! (I'm a law abiding felon so I had to do what I had to do, a pointy stick spear like you fellas mentioned earlier. I wasn't even trying to kill the dogs but when that 6" blade got buried in my inner thigh i just knew i was going to bleed out and acted accordingly).
@Joey Marino He recovered physically ok but he was definitely traumatized from it. He had a big hole in his ear where it met the top of his head and some bruises on his neck. He thought they were playing with him because he plays with pit bulls 2 of which look almost identical to the dogs that attacked him. Side note dogs apparently don't give a shit about pepper or bear spray. After I exhausted those options and saw both dogs on his neck at the same time that's when it clicked in my head that I had to stop it (this was before I poked myself).
I always try to carry a tourniquet and I’m not even a soldier. It’s amazing how easy it is to bleed out. Anything from a gunshot wound, car accident to something as small as cutting through an artery while working on your car in the driveway. Second time listening to this podcast. After the first time, I bought a tourniquet immediately, luckily I haven’t need to use it yet!
In South Africa, you can call emergency services and they MIGHT be there within hours, if at all. Granted that's mostly government services, but even private services can take too long.
The story of the tourniquet reminds me of the story of the emergency call in germany. Until the 1970s there were all different phone numbers, depending on the region. Then one father lost his son. The ambulance came to late because it was to late alarmed. Someone could not get the number quick enough. The father then lobbied for a unified number in whole germany. Today we have one emergency number in whole europe. Its 112. Take care, guys.

Theres such a balance to being a man in my mind. the epitome of what it means to be a man is so much of what you say. Youre not mindless and sloppy. Well thought out and tight, not full of ego but full of pride. Pride in a way of life pride in family and friends and most importantly having pride in yourself, you have no choice but to hold yourself to a standard same with those around you. Its uplifting, you show a good example of character how to be humble and calm, take everything in stride and make shit work. Its so easy to get overwhelmed but when you've gotten it done before whats the worry.
As a dustoff medic in viet nam I used 2” white medical tape exclusively on traumatic amputations. It took about 5 seconds to go around a leg 2 or 3 times to stop bleeding. IV’s we’re done with 14 or 16 gauge jelco needles with dextrose d5w bottles turned wide open.

What a great surprise to see neuroscience injected into this conversation. As someone who's got childhood trauma, I describe my tendency to shut down when triggered as "my nervous system being punchy", a la boxers "losing their chin."
So, on the topic of force on force training, and the limitations of sim training availability to the civilian market, would airsoft also be a viable option for civilians in training? How could civilians really successfully train these concepts regularly and effectively on their own without the logistical support it requires to be able to get sim rounds and equipment?
Make this mindset mainstream. Talk to people like it’s common sense and don’t hide it. If this becomes more of general American culture it will have follow on effects making it a better place overall.

Already pre-ordered the book! Mike and Jocko together again! Great combo!
Thank god that we have honourable man protecting us from harms way. We must all honour them and not just dismissing them as just another casualty. God bless them and their families for their sacrifices.
After all this man has done for our great country, how the hell could our government label him a domestic terrorist? Mind boggling....????
Two words: corruption, and treason. Treason on the part of the ruling dictators who are labeling their own critically thinking, intelligent and capable citizens as "domes tick terr or wrists". The corruption knows no bounds
Because our government is filled with evil people
If you actually look at the specifics of the situation, specifics that Mike showed on his own podcast, they never labeled him a domestic terrorist, and Mike dramatically misrepresented the situation (and continues to do so).
I love listening to these guys podcasts
Thank you for plugging Mike Glover and his books.
Preparing for even natural disaster from earthquakes to flooding requires quick mindedness. Thank you!
Always great content, Jocko. Mike's book is a needed wake up call for me.
Kid Muzzle Dissipline Talk with you 3 guys is 100% my favorite kinda Jocko Podcast moments!
Really appreciate both of you. I'm heading over to buy the book now.
Just ordered the book. Thx Jocko, thx Mike.
Allright, sold! I absolutely need that book. Thanks for doing what you're doing gentlemen.
Glad to hear a John Lovell (WPS) shoutout. Stay ready and you don't have to get ready!
Thank you very much! God bless you all!
Learned so much and really enjoyed this podcast. Appreciate all of you. Good to see John Lovell get a shout out as well
Losing a soldier that our country invested millions in training over a $20 piece of cloth and a stick isn't just a tragedy, it's a symptom of just how far our country has fallen.
Thank you for supporting Crossfit! I appreciate 💯!
Been waiting for Mike to be on again! Great episode
I gotta get that book. My former stepdad taught me a lot of what was said here when I was a teen. Sure he's an a-hole but kind of set me up for the reality of life. Glad to see Glover and Willink talking again I can listen to them for HOURS. Get their books guys, really solid stuff.
When echo started talking they both looked like they are happy parents talking to their child 😂😂
I've been screaming this same thing from every rooftop I can.. our corrupt politicians know that would actually solve the problem but instead they want to take our guns and make crime even worse. They are money and power hungry, they don't care about our safety
Makes to much sense, democrats will not allow it!😂

You have motivated me to do something, at least to start thinking about it!

Enjoyed Mike on Rogan’s podcast.
Very cool guy.
Man it IS hard to find a group of guys/friends who are willing to check you and challenge you. I can count on one hand people I could contact who would give me an honest assessment and account. Even less who would be willing to outright challenge me to better myself.
Your home is your last retreat. Love the advice on avoiding fight.
Jocko will never let that Admiral question go 😅 Echo's gonna hear that until they're both old men lol
How is the doggo?
@Joey Marino He recovered physically ok but he was definitely traumatized from it. He had a big hole in his ear where it met the top of his head and some bruises on his neck. He thought they were playing with him because he plays with pit bulls 2 of which look almost identical to the dogs that attacked him. Side note dogs apparently don't give a shit about pepper or bear spray. After I exhausted those options and saw both dogs on his neck at the same time that's when it clicked in my head that I had to stop it (this was before I poked myself).
Ol Glovey Gloves & Jizzle Wizzles out here dropping all the gems today!
Just preordered the book. Thanks to Mike, I now have a tourniquet everywhere I go.
This clip is why i love this podcast.
In South Africa, you can call emergency services and they MIGHT be there within hours, if at all. Granted that's mostly government services, but even private services can take too long.
ran 40 km while listening this podcast, very interesting ;)
The fact that those men were just there, is a testament to their bravery encourage God bless them, and their family s
Outstanding conversation gentlemen!
That was fun to listen to. I definitely need to step up my training. Thanks for all the information. Have a good day Guys .
The fact that the military lets these people leave and doesnt try to offer them boat load of money to stay is a crime.
You are just a number.
Military brass along with industry leaders. believe there’s another “worker/solider” just like this one comes along everyday. “ the woods are full of them, there’s one behind every tree”.
As a veteran I am here to tell you that the big flag wavers in government are pro war, not pro military. They are all for enriching the military industrial complex but have no actual time or money for veterans.
No amount of money will keep these dudes. They don't do things for money.
You age out physically and mentally you become jaded when it becomes more about politics and less about winning.
Another great podcast. Book preordered. A little unsolicited advice from an old LEO, if you have to use deadly force, don’t talk to the police without the presence of legal counsel.
Great episode! and that's a great advice for these times... Be prepared
So many GEMS in this video!
Great show Jocko, love Mike he’s doing great things.
Been following you two for a long while. Thank you Jocko, Mike and Echo. I preordered Mike’s book. Can’t wait for it.
I know a guy who was in his first gun fight and did awsome. When it was all said and done he had no recollection of the event. He was on auto pilot.

Love to see you here Mike Glover! Love the podcast
